  WBCP Launches Merchandise Line Based On Batman Classic TV Series

Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) launched the Batman Classic Television Series licensing program, inspired by the classic DC Comics 1960s TV show, Batman, on March 22 at an exclusive event co-hosted with Junk Food Clothing at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood. Junk Food Clothing unveiled a range of men's and women's T-shirts featuring live-action imagery and inspired graphics from the show. The new licensing and merchandising program brings to life the dynamic duo of Batman and Robin, an arsenal of archenemies such as the Penguin, the Joker, and the Riddler, as well as Batman's famous high-tech gadgetry and the Batmobile.

Guests at the event received a first-hand look at new products inspired by the TV series, including the Mattel 2013 San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive 6-inch Figure Batusi Batman. Mattel also showcased its never-before-seen 6-inch figure of The Joker, along with the 6-inch figure assortment of Batman, Robin, the Riddler, the Penguin, Surfing Batman, and a collector's Batman Classic TV Series Batmobile, as well as the Mattel vintage-styled Batman Ken and Catwoman Barbie Doll. Other partners showcasing product at the event included Rubie's Costume Co. with its deluxe Batgirl, the Riddler, and Catwoman costumes for adults; Mezco with Batman and Robin in their signature Batmobile, along with the Joker and the Riddler Mez-itz mini-figures; CSS Industries with gift-tags and stationery; and Mead's 2014 wall calendar inspired by the show. New Era also offered three new, limited-edition caps inspired by the Batman Classic Television Series and available exclusively at Meltdown Comics.

  Bologna Licensing Trade Fair Reports Strong Attendance

The Bologna Licensing Trade Fair, taking place in conjunction with the Bologna Book fair, is now in its third and largest year. More than 600 properties are being showcased with highlights including the growing Russian marketplace, a strong conference program, and the Licensing Retail Day. Publisher's Weekly, looking at the Bologna Book fair, reported a strong increase in interest in licensing business at both shows.

The keynote speaker for the conference program is Katie Hatch, and a strong retail presence at the show is reported. The conference includes talks on Design Trends and an Innovative Licensing Approach; Art, Fashion & Design—When this Mix Means Licensing; The Italian Rugby Federation: Adidas Presents its Licensing Program; and Made in Italy and the Russian Licensing Market; as well as Basics of Licensing: The Italian Book.

  41e Signs Licensees for Pac-Man Textiles, Footwear

41 Entertainment (41e) and its Australian agent, Gaffney Licensing, have granted the textile license for Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures to Legend Holdings for Australia and New Zealand. Legend has been designing and wholesaling decorative bed covers, accessories, pillows, quilts, and sheeting coordinates since 1991, and will distribute under its Logan and Mason line.

In addition, 41e has granted the footwear license to BBC International for the U.S. and Canada for the Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures property. CEO of 41e, Allen Bohbot, says he expects to name additional international footwear partners before Las Vegas Licensing Show in June.

  Alphanim Unveils Rebranding and Strategic Development Plan

Alphanim has been rebranded and will now be known as Gaumont Animation as part of its overall strategic development plan.

The first deal to be unveiled under the new Gaumont Animation banner is a development and production agreement with France Televisions and DreamWorks Classics for Noddy, a new 3-D, CGI-animated series.

Gaumont's feature film division continues to see success with The Intouchables, the recent Golden-Globe nominated blockbuster with a box office of more than $400 million, as well as the 2011 launch of Gaumont International Television, its U.S.-based subsidiary, which is currently producing Hannibal for NBC and Sony/AXN, Hemlock Grove for Netflix, and Barbarella with Canal +.

  Dream Theatre to Roll Out 2014 FIFA World Cup Licensing Program for India

Football fans in India are gearing up for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. Dream Theatre Pvt Ltd., the Mumbai-based brand management and licensing enterprise in association with Pacific Licensing Studio (PLS) and FIFA's appointed licensing agent for South East Asia, is set to roll out FIFA's licensed merchandise collection. The eclectic merchandise range includes apparel, accessories, footwear, sporting goods, back-to-school supplies, stationery, home furnishings, eyewear, and computer accessories. The merchandise collection will be available in retail outlets across the country.

  LIMA Announces Details for Licensing Essentials Course

Registration is open for this year's Licensing Essentials Course, run by LIMA. The course will be held on May 16 at 51 Buckingham Gate, London. Topical subjects to be covered include how to make licensing work in-store, the value of research, and protecting international property.

This year's program includes speakers from organizations such as ITV, the Science Museum, GFK, and Trading Standards. Suitable for everyone from beginners to pros, the day is packed with seminars covering best practices, essential licensing know-how, new opportunities, and trends.

The day kicks off with an essential introduction to licensing by Kelvyn Gardner, managing director of LIMA UK. This will be followed by a program packed with advice and practical tips from key speakers, including Maggy Harris, from ITV, on the role of the licensor; Gurdev Mattu, from Fashion UK, on successful licensing from the licensees' perspective; and Anya Hollis, from the Science Museum, on what happens when characters meet culture. The Legendary Licensing Debate will start at 5 p.m. and the Spring Fling networking party will round off the day.

  Silvergate Media Partners with Fisher-Price for Octonauts Toys

Silvergate Media has launched a new line of toys in the U.S. based on the animated TV series for preschoolers, Octonauts. Manufactured by Fisher-Price Inc., a subsidiary of Mattel Inc., the new line of play sets, action figures, and Octo-gear arrived in Toys “R” Us stores earlier this month.

This is the first time that preschoolers in the U.S. can bring the excitement of the Octonauts home with an assortment of action figures, vehicles, gadgets, and gear that allows them to create their very own Octo-adventure on land or under water. Sound effects, moveable rescue tools, and signature graphics capture the look and feel of the Octonauts preschool series and provide children with an imaginative play experience. The new Octonauts toys are designed for children ages 3 and up.

  Aardman Partners with Trunki for Ad Campaign

Aardman has partnered with Trunki to produce its first national TV commercial. The 30-second, 2-D animated advertising campaign directed by Aardman's Tim Ruffle will launch this Easter across a host of children's TV channels in the UK.

  Zodiak Announces Marathon Media's Latest Offering, Lolirock

Zodiak Kids has announced the launch of Marathon Media's new production, Lolirock, an animated series developed in partnership with France Televisions and Disney Channel (France). Aimed at kids ages 6 to 12, Lolirock follows a cast of characters in a girl band, as a new world of music, magic, and mystery is revealed.

  The Collective Signs with HarperCollins for Annoying Orange Joke Books

The Collective has partnered with HarperCollins Children's Books for a series of joke and picture books inspired by The Annoying Orange. The deal was brokered on behalf of The Collective by The Joester Loria Group, the licensing agent for the Annoying Orange brand in North America and David Linker, executive editor of HarperCollins Children's Books.

The first joke book, Annoying Orange: How to Be Annoying, will debut this fall for kids ages 6 to 10. The follow up title, Annoying Orange: Halloweenie, will release next summer for kids ages 4 to 8. Additionally, HarperCollins Children's Books has plans to publish four more titles next year, including a second joke book, a Valentine's Day book, and a Christmas book. An Easter title will round out the collection in the spring of 2015.

  HarperCollins Announces New Promotions

HarperCollins Children's Books publisher Ann-Janine Murtagh has announced senior team promotions with plans for expansion across the publishing portfolio.

Rachel Denwood has been promoted to publishing and creative director, with increased responsibility across fiction, picture books, and properties. Denwood will focus on driving the creative development of the publishing process and she will lead content-creation across editorial and design, building on a culture of innovation and excellence and providing the strongest possible creative environment for authors, illustrators, and brands.

Recently appointed Fiction Publishing Director Ruth Alltimes will report to Denwood along with Art Director James Stevens. Fiction Publishing Director Nick Lake, also recently promoted, will continue to report to Ann-Janine Murtagh, growing his stable of authors.

Associate Publisher Alison Ruane will remain as Murtagh's deputy with the specific responsibility of leading the commercial, sales, and marketing teams. Public Relations Director Geraldine Stroud will continue to report directly to Murtagh with responsibility for author care and events.

  Fox Consumer Products Launches

Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products (FCP) has launched a new e-commerce initiative that offers a revamped and engaging user experience for consumers. In order to attract fans and offer merchandise indicative of the brands they love, products will be available in official, brand-specific shops that will roll out over the course of the year. These shops will feature on-demand product offerings, licensed products, and seen-on merchandise authentic to each Fox property. Fans of New Girl, Glee, American Dad, and Family Guy can now purchase new merchandise, view show content, and interact with their favorite brands across various social media platforms on the shows’ individual shopping hubs. MashOn Inc. and BLKBX Creative Group engineered the new online shops and have developed the creative elements for the new platform.

  Millimages Partners with UNICEF

Millimages has collaborated with UNICEF to have animated character Mouk appear on the charity's greeting cards this year. A series of specially created images will feature Mouk and his friends on UNICEF-branded greeting cards that will be available in France, Germany, Austria, Korea, Portugal, Cyprus, Greece, Venezuela, and Luxembourg beginning in September.

  Mister Maker Signs New UK Partners

Zodiak Kids has appointed new UK partners for the CBeebies preschool program, Mister Maker, produced by Zodiak Kids production company The Foundation. P2 Entertainment Ltd. has acquired the license to produce the first ever Mister Maker mobile app in the UK and worldwide. The paid app will initially be available through Apple's iTunes platform and is planned to roll out to other mobile platforms when launched in the summer.

Igloo Books has signed as the publishing partner for Mister Maker. The publishing range is expected to launch in all mass-market retailers across the UK and Eire. The books, aimed at kids ages 3 to 6, will be produced in a multitude of interactive formats, including sticker, activity, and coloring books. The first title will be available this summer.

Zodiak Kids has renewed its agreement with Creativity International to continue to create the Mister Maker arts and craft packs. The range, which will include stationery, core art materials, craft packs, and activity sets, will be available through high street, grocers, independent, and specialty retailers in the UK and Eire.

  Egmont Announces Minecraft Program

Egmont has announced its launch program for the online game Minecraft. The children's publisher acquired global (excluding the U.S.) publishing rights for the gaming brand in November.

The first official Minecraft books will launch in September and will include four handbooks (The Beginners Handbook, The Redstone Handbook, The Combat Handbook, and The Construction Handbook), a Minecraft Annual, Minecraft poster book, and the All About Minecraft magazine.

  Fender Signs Children's Apparel License With Parigi Group

Fender and Parigi Group have partnered for the launch of a new children's apparel line. Parigi Group is Lucky Brand's exclusive licensee for children's clothing and the Fender line will extend the Fender and Lucky Brand collaboration with men's apparel.

Fender is one of Lucky Brand's leading licensors and their first licensor to sign with Parigi Group in order to build on the relationship and product offering. The new children's line will mirror adult Fender/Lucky Brand products currently sold in Lucky stores and high-end department stores such as Dillard's, Bloomingdale's, and Lord & Taylor. Parigi Group will begin shipping the new Fender/Lucky Brand children's clothing in the fall.

  New Fireman Sam App Available for Download

P2 Games and Hit Entertainment have launched a new app, Fireman Sam: Fire & Rescue. Fireman Sam: Fire & Rescue is the second app from P2 Games and Hit Entertainment. The new app follows the release of Fireman Sam: Junior Cadet last year. Fireman Sam: Fire & Rescue offers more content than before with five games and bonus features including videos and multiplayer functions. The app is currently available in the App Store.

  Summertime Entertainment Signs Distribution Deal for Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return

Summertime Entertainment has signed a deal with Clarius Entertainment for a wide theatrical release, with print and advertising support in the U.S. and Canada, for the 3-D animated musical film Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return. The release date is slated for the first quarter of next year. The company is beginning discussions for international distribution for the film.

Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return features the voices of Lea Michele (Dorothy), Jim Belushi (Lion), Dan Aykroyd (Scarecrow), Kelsey Grammer (Tin Man), and Bernadette Peters (Glinda). In addition, Patrick Stewart (Tugg), Hugh Dancy (Marshal Mallow), Megan Hilty (China Princess), Oliver Platt (Wiser), and Martin Short (the Jester) voice the series' new characters. The musical contains new original songs by singer/songwriter Bryan Adams, and the film's soundtrack album will be released by Sony Entertainment's Columbia/Epic label.

This deal marks Summertime Entertainment's first major step to further expand both this and other unexplored family film franchises. Summertime has secured the rights to 10 of the Oz stories penned by Roger Stanton Baum.

  Lisle to Showcase Trash Pack at New Consumer Show

Lisle International will showcase boys' property The Trash Pack directly to parents at new consumer show Mums Show Live from May 16 to 19. The Trash Pack will be partnering with online magazine to exhibit a selection of the licensed collection while also sending a recycling message. The show, which will take place at Alexandra Palace, is expected to attract 30,000 parents of children ages 4 to 12 and provide exposure for the brand.

  CandyRific Signs Agreement with Moose Enterprises for Trash Pack Novelties

CandyRific has signed with Moose Enterprises for Trash Pack-branded interactive novelty items. As part of the agreement, CandyRific will have two Trash Pack novelties that will be available for shipping in June.

Kids can gross out their friends with the colorful Trash Pack Light Up Slime Wand, which turns fluorescent green at the push of a button. With the Trash Pack Pop Up Glow Light, kids can watch as the hideous, repugnant Trashie pops out of his trash can to light the path through the garbage. Both novelties come with .53 oz. of microbytes candy.

  Mexican Agent Appointed for Angel Cat Sugar

Tact Communications has appointed Develop Licensing as a new licensing agent for Angel Cat Sugar in Mexico.

"In tandem with Studio Licensing, which has already signed six new licensees in North America, we believe the activities by Develop Licensing will enhance and positively benefit our Angel Cat Sugar licensing programs in the Americas and globally," says Shunsuke Tamura, president of Tact Communications.

  The Care Bears Pair with Rody for Co-branding Campaign in Taiwan

AG Properties (AGP) and licensing agent Medialink have partnered with Entertainment Machine Operator for a limited-edition cross-over collection with Rody in Taiwan. Rody is a brand of inflatable rocking horses. This one-year promotion includes a full range of products, including tote bags, cosmetic bags, desktop holders, and stationery folders.

The co-branded products, available exclusively at Rody stores, will hit other department and specialty stores by the end of the year. Taiwan has been a breakout market for Care Bears within the past several months, with 10 licensees on board covering categories including apparel, stationery, footwear, accessories, and bags.

  Atlantyca Entertainment Renews Agreement with Sticasa for Little Prince

Atlantyca Entertainment has renewed its licensing agreement with Milan-based Sticasa for the classic Little Prince brand for Italy. Sticasa's product line includes stickers inspired by the original Little Prince illustrations from the book written by Antoine de Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The new animated series of The Little Prince, produced in 3-D high-definition, premiered in Italy in December 2011 and airs every Saturday and Sunday on RAI2.

  Chloe's Closet Heading to 5's Milkshake

Moonscoop has concluded a broadcast deal for Chloe's Closet to air on Channel 5's pre-school strand, Milkshake!, in the spring. The second season of Chloe's Closet, comprised of 52 x11-minute new episodes, will launch at MIP TV held from April 8 to 11 in Cannes. Chloe will join the Milkshake! presenter to help read out birthday cards, join in with the Milkshake! Dances, and introduce the new episodes. There will also be a special competition.

  International Agents Signed for WotWots

New German and Turkish agents have been signed to locally represent The WotWots. The deal was brokered by AG Properties, which serves as a global licensing agent for the brand and has recently signed other deals for The WotWots in Canada, Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand.

Lizenwerft in Germany will handle the rights for merchandising, events and promotions, and publishing across Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. Max Licensing will represent the brand in Turkey across merchandising, events and promotions, and publishing. The television series has recently been broadcast in the market on ATV.
