Discovery Communications, Uniqlo to Debut New Youth T-Shirt Collection

Discovery Consumer Products and Uniqlo, a brand of Fast Retailing Co. Ltd., partnered for a new collection of unisex youth T-shirts. This marks the first global partnership between Uniqlo and Discovery Consumer Products. It will be supported with a worldwide digital marketing campaign, in-store promotion, and cross promotion between the two brands. The T-shirts will be available at and at Uniqlo retail locations in the U.S., Europe, China, Japan, and Southeast Asia this month.
The new collection features illustrations with animals, space, and dinosaurs. In Japanese Uniqlo stores, consumers will also receive a DVD filled with dinosaur content from Discovery Channel when they purchase something from the new collection.

Moose Toys, Build-A-Bear Workshop Enter Licensing Agreement

Moose Toys signed a licensing agreement with Build-A-Bear Workshop for an assortment of Shopkins plush and accessories that will launch at Build-A-Bear Workshop stores and in late summer. The global agreement, brokered by The Licensing Shop Inc., covers Build-A-Bear Workshop locations in the U.S., Canada, Denmark, Ireland, Puerto Rico, the UK, and China, in addition to franchise stores in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Mexico, and the Middle East. 

Since its 2014 launch, each season of Shopkins offers more than 100 different Shopkins characters to collect, including common, rare, and limited-edition characters. Its animated webisode series has amassed nearly 240 million views on YouTube and the Shopkins 12-Pack was the No. 1 selling toy in the U.S. in 2015 and 2016, according to The NPD Group.

Shopkins won the 2016 LIMA Award of Excellence for “Best Toy Character License.” The licensed merchandise program has generated more than $1 billion in retail sales since inception.

Smiley Used in Marketing Campaign for Ed Sheeran’s New Album

The Smiley Company is pleased to announce a licensing partnership with Warner Music UK for the rights to incorporate Smiley in various marketing activities to support Ed Sheeran’s new album ÷ (Divide).
Warner Music UK's worldwide promotional campaign for the multi Brit and Grammy award winner features Smiley will include: OOH, print and digital campaigns to promote his latest album, which was released on the 3rd March 2017.

Loot Crate Announces Launch of Sports Crate for MLB Fans

Loot Crate announced the launch of Sports Crate, its first line of subscription products exclusively for baseball fans. This marks Loot Crate’s first move into the world of sports fandom. Sports Crate includes licenses from Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), making it the Exclusive Subscription Box of MLB.
The new division of Loot Crate will initially launch with 10 teams, including the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, and Texas Rangers, with exclusive apparel, collectibles, experiences, and more every month. Additional teams will roll out later this year.
The monthly subscription service will feature exclusive team-focused products and experiences. The first Sports Crate will have a “Bringing the Heat” theme, stocked accordingly with an exclusive collectible action figure of the respective team’s starting pitcher, along with other memorabilia to help lead up to Opening Day.
Sports Crates are currently available on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to ensure their collectability. Fans can visit to submit the team they’d like to see made available in the coming weeks and months.

Edutainment Licensing Appoints Three Agents for ArtyMouse

Edutainment Licensing has appointed three new agents to further extend its global partnership network for the learning through art brand Arty Mouse.
First, Promotional Partners Worldwide (PPW) will take on the Arty Mouse brand in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau; meanwhile, Animation International Turkey (Ai) will represent it for licensing in Turkey and The Think Tank Emporium has secured the rights to represent the brand in the United States and Canada.
“We are very happy to have entered into these new partnerships,” says Denise Deane, owner of Edutainment Licensing.  “All are well-known agencies in their territory and true experts in the licensing industry.

Rubie’s Pet Shop Boutique, a division of Rubie’s Costume Co. Inc., unveiled new styles and licenses at the Global Pet Expo, which kicked off this week in Orlando. With the addition of new costumes and accessories, Rubie’s Pet Shop Boutique also debuted new styles for Transformers, Barbie, and My Little Pony, and will add new costumes for Star Wars, DC Comics, and Marvel licenses this year.

Penguin Random House Children’s to Release New Peppa Pig Book

Penguin Random House Children's will shortly be releasing a brand new Peppa Pig picture book, in partnership with the new and exclusive Peppa Pig TV episodes been screened at Entertainment One's My First Cinema Experience initiative this coming April.

Sesame Workshop Introduces Julia, a Muppet with Autism

Sesame Workshop announced a new phase of the autism initiative Sesame Street and Autism: See Amazing in All Children, which welcomes Julia, a Muppet with autism. Julia was introduced last year in digital form and will come to life as a Muppet, in addition to a release of resources designed to increase awareness and understanding of autism. 
The See Amazing library will add digital videos, books, and e-books, which will be available in English and Spanish. The “Meet Julia” special episode airs next month on HBO and PBS KIDS (U.S.) and on Cartoonito (UK), ABC (Australia), and Televisa (Mexico), with worldwide rollout planned for this year.
Sesame Workshop worked for more than five years and consulted with more than 250 organizations and experts within the autism community to develop See Amazing.
Research commissioned by Sesame Workshop and conducted by Georgetown University Medical Center and Children’s National Health System evaluated the impact of Sesame Street and Autism on the autism community. Preliminary findings will be announced next month at an event in Washington, D.C. Sesame Street and Autism: See Amazing in All Children is funded with support from American Greetings, the Robert R. McCormick Foundation, and Kristen Rohr.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Appoints Metrostar and Signs Four Deals

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and its Master Agent, Brand Central, have chosen Metrostar to manage its licensing activities in the United Kingdom.
Metrostar began working with Krispy Kreme’s UK company at BLE and has already signed four licensees to the programme : Hall & Associates are developing beauty ranges for Boots and other retailers; Kimm & Miller are creating food gift collections; Gibson’s are developing puzzles and BCI are creating women’s nightwear. The first products will be launched in Autumn 2017.
Krispy Kreme licensing is well-established in the US through Brand Central, who are building an international programme for the brand.

Vans Taps Kendra Dandy for Capsule Collection

Kendra Dandy designed a collection of illustrations across Vans footwear, apparel, and accessories.

Drawing inspiration from the vibrant colors and playful nature of the 1960s, the artist’s imaginative illustrations are featured across Vans Authentic, women’s apparel, and accessories. Dandy decorated Vans’ iconic Checkerboard with a pastel mod eye, layered polka dots with ice cream designs, and dressed up black canvas with sassy, sunny-side up eggs. The graphic prints are carried across women’s apparel to include a carefully embroidered pocket detail on classic button up silhouettes, boldly printed crewnecks, and a colorful assortment of backpacks, caps, socks, and makeup pouches.

Five Forget Mother’s Day Soars to Number One Slot

Five Forget Mother’s Day – the latest title in a series of tongue-in-cheek parodies of Enid Blyton’s most famous books – has shot to No. 1 in the hardback non-fiction chart.
Other titles in the series - such as Five On Brexit Island, Five Go on a Strategy Away Day and Five Give Up the Booze – have all made it into the top ten and overall sales for the series now top 1,000,000.

The books tap into the nostalgia for Enid Blyton’s work, which also includes Malory Towers and the Secret Seven and has delighted successive generations of British children and sold hundreds of millions of copies. Enid Blyton’s books regularly feature in the top ten list of the best-selling authors in the UK and are also popular across the world, making her the fourth most translated author in history, after Agatha Christie, Jules Verne and William Shakespeare.

BBC Worldwide North America Appoints Sergei Kuharsky EVP, Franchise and Digital Enterprises

Sergei Kuharsky was appointed executive vice president, franchise and digital enterprises, BBC Worldwide North America. Kuharsky joined BBC Worldwide North America last April and was most recently senior vice president, strategy and business development. Kuharsky will continue to report to Ann Sarnoff, president, BBC Worldwide North America.
In his new role, Kuharsky will be responsible for growing revenue across the businesses in BBC Worldwide’s Digital Enterprise and Franchise Management portfolio, which includes e-commerce, home entertainment (DVD & EST), consumer products, live events, retail, and BBC Learning. He will also build on existing partnerships and create new ones for key franchises, including Top Gear, Doctor Who, and BBC Earth.
Kuharsky joined BBC Worldwide North America from Scripps Networks Interactive, where he led the brand’s expansion strategy and built SNI’s consumer products portfolio. Prior to SNI, Kuharsky was executive vice president of sales and marketing at In Demand Networks. Formerly, Kuharsky held the position of senior vice president of brand and franchise marketing at MTV Network’s Nickelodeon channel. He also worked as head of marketing for both Warner Home Entertainment and Disney Home Video.

BBC Content Now Available on Azoomee App

Azoomee, an entertainment app for kids, partnered with BBC for a 12-month licensing agreement. Azoomee first launched in the UK last summer. 
As part of the agreement, Azoomee licensed BBC TV series including Charlie and Lola; Horrible Histories; Katie Morag; The Next Step; Deadly 60; Nina and the Neurons; and Little Human Planet.
Azoomee’s video content includes children’s brands and independent productions from around the world, as well as original content. This deal positions Azoomee as one of few entertainment services to have signed SVOD (subscription video on demand) content licensing deals with BBC within the last year in the UK.

Beanstalk to Represent Celia Cruz Estate

The Celia Cruz Estate signed an exclusive representation agreement for advertising licensing with Beanstalk. The partnership will extend the personality into advertising, long-term brand associations, and select product opportunities.
A native-born Cuban, Cruz was raised in working-class Havana and became a citizen of the U.S. after leaving Cuba.  She went on to win four Latin GRAMMY Awards, four GRAMMY Awards, produced more than twenty Gold and Platinum albums, and received the National Medal of Arts.

Job Description: Creative Artworker/Designer

Bright is a leading illustration agency, providing creative content for clients across Licensing and Publishing. In this role it is important to understand the needs of each agent and their creative division, supporting the London & New York offices and working with the part time US designer to coordinate design consistency and efficiency. Bright’s systems are currently under development, so there is scope to be a part of establishing brand design and guidelines for the new website and beyond. This is an opportunity to be part of a resourceful and forward thinking team, working across print and online to take ownership of and developing existing processes and instigating new design projects.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Plotting monthly activity and prioritising brief requests, managing deadlines, copy and image requirements
  • Carrying out fast-paced design briefs for both online and print marketing across our different creative departments

GENERAL SUMMARY: Creates strategic direction for active licensee base and negotiates new partnerships within assigned categories to achieve growth objectives.   Directs tactical execution of licensed product lines from concept/line plan through commercialization.  


  • Manage existing licensees in assigned categories: 
    • Evaluate licensee’s quarterly marketing, retail and financial forecasts to ensure licensees on are track to meet established contractual obligations, royalty payments and forecast goals.
    • Organize and run licensee orientations, business reviews, semiannual/quarterly line reviews, and brain storm sessions.

    • Work with creative and product development on design and creative direction for licensed product and packaging
    • Responsible for managing licensee press releases, cross marketing and promotions
    • Ensure adherence to internal approval process (i.e. safety, quality, financial, legal, content, creative, consumer activation, consumer affairs etc.) and assist in resolving issues.
  • Negotiate new licensed strategic partnerships for assigned segments in conjunction with established category strategies
    • Research, secure and develop new licensees building upon the success of existing segments in order to achieve predictable, profitable and sustainable growth
    • Negotiate deal terms including: grant of rights, royalty rates, guarantees, projections and business plans
  • 7 years’ experience in licensing or consumer marketing work for a CPG company.

I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.
I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
