Alfred Kahn, founder of 4Kids Entertainment Inc., and Jillian Crane, a writer, actress, and producer, have formed CraneKahn, an international children's entertainment and licensing company that will focus on products and experiences.
As part of their licensing and marketing strategy to bring new forms of entertainment to children living through the digital revolution, CraneKahn has hired Kerry Novick, as senior vice president, global sales and acquisitionsNovick spent the past 20 years in global program distribution, representing Sesame Workshop and other top children’s series and brands in the world.
Kahn has been responsible for many of the biggest hits in licensing, including Cabbage Patch Kids, Pokémon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Yu-Gi-Oh!
In 2005, Kahn was inducted into the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) Hall of Fame. 
Jillian Crane, along with Kahn, is currently producing a young adult film franchise based on the book series, H.I.V.E. (Higher Institute of Villainous Education). They are also developing two Broadway musicals: “The Boys of Summer,” based on the iconic book about the Brooklyn Dodgers and “The Blind Boys of Alabama,” the world renowned gospel group.
Novick spent five years working at Sesame Workshop distributing the company’s programs to Asia, Latin America, and Canada. She also founded Small Screen Distribution in 2004.

Revealed: B&LLAs Product Finalists

The finalists in the product categories of the inaugural Brand & Lifestyle Licensing Awards (B&LLAs) have been revealed.
The judging panel comprised retail buyers from leading names including Debenhams, Boots, House of Fraser, Urban Outfitters, Blue Inc, Sainsbury’s, Specsavers, Asda, M&Co, Lloyds Pharmacy, Mothercare and Jarrolds.
“The strong line-up of contenders stand as testament to the dynamism and diversity of the brand licensing arena,” commented Ian Hyder, joint md of Max Publishing which organises and owns the B&LLAs.

Perfetti Van Melle Signs with Unilever for Chupa Chups Frozen Treats

Confectionery manufacturer Perfetti Van Melle has partnered with Unilever for a range of individually wrapped ice-creams under the Spanish lollipop brand, Chupa Chups. The products, including Chupa Chups Calippo Shots in Cherry Banana and Cola Lemon, are set to launch at out-of-home distribution channels across Western Europe in this spring.

The agreement was brokered by Perfetti Van Melle’s brand extension agency, Beanstalk.

AC Worldwide Launches Star Wars Bluetooth Wireless Speakers

AC Worldwide has announced the launch of its Star Wars Bluetooth speakers, available now at The speakers come in two editions; the protocol droid C-3PO and the Galactic Empire’s elite soldier, the Stormtrooper.

MasterChef and MasterChef Junior Products Debut at Home + Housewares Show

Endemol Shine North America, producers of reality competition series MasterChef and MasterChef Junior, have partnered with Unibrands and Wicked Cool Toys to develop cooking product lines inspired by the Fox franchise. The product lines were showcased at the International Home + Housewares Show, held this week in Chicago.
Unibrands debuted MasterChef-inspired BBQ Grilling Sets and Accessories, new for this year. For any home cook or grill master looking to elevate their grilling equipment, the collection will include a spatula, tongs, fork, and basting brush with signature stainless steel and rubberized grip design. Grill accessories will include a grill light and covers, and oven mitts. Thermometers will also be part of the debut collection.
Wicked Cool Toys showcased kid-friendly cooking with real-play patterns into the housewares category. From burgers and pizza to baking and breakfast, kids can become the ultimate home cook with the MasterChef Junior-themed cooking sets. Each set includes real cooking tools, plating suggestions to create elevated dishes, and recipes for all skill levels: Line Cook, Sous Chef, and MasterChef. The cooking sets debuted in November exclusively at Walmart stores and are rolling out to additional retailers this year.
Licensing agency Brand Central brokered both deals and are the first of many brand extensions planned for the year.

Licensing Link Appointed to Represent Little Baby Bum in UK & Ireland

Brand extension and licensing agency, Licensing Link has been appointed by Surge Licensing to represent the world's largest educational YouTube channel, Little Baby Bum, in the UK and Ireland.
The Little Baby Bum English language channel has grown rapidly past 6 billionµ global views, reaching another half a billion views with the addition of four foreign language channels. Beyond the UK, the LBB series has also launched in the United States, Canada, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and throughout South America with more foreign language channels launching shortly.
Little Baby Bum boasts a huge library of content with over 250 3D-HD animated episodes.  Two new episodes are launched each week, with an average of 16 million viewers on a daily basis tuning in around the world. Our  “Wheels on the Bus” episode alone has passed the one billion views mark and is has the most Watch Time of any video.
Licensing Link will work closely with global agent, Surge Licensing, to grow the brand within the consumer products area within the U.K. where the Little Baby Bum channel originates from.
A deal has already been secured with Commonwealth Toys for a line of feature plush and other soft toys – due to launch early spring 2016 in the UK and US marketplaces simultaneously. Other categories initially being targeted include infant toys, publishing, electronic learning and apparel.
Ian Wickham, director of Licensing Link, added: “Consumer appetite for content delivered across social media platforms has grown significantly in recent years and, excitingly, Little Baby Bum is a case in point. Warner Bros. Names Peter Van Roden SVP, Global Themed Entertainment

Emmy-award winning producer and media executive Peter van Roden has been named senior vice president, global themed entertainment for Warner Bros. Consumer Products. Van Roden reports directly to Karen McTier, executive vice president, Warner Bros. Consumer Products.
In his new role, van Roden will develop and implement global entertainment strategies that benefit long-term brand building and revenue growth including theme parks, themed entertainment attractions, exhibits, and live events around the world. 

With more than 20 years of experience across production, marketing, and management, van Roden spent most of his recent career at Sesame Workshop as vice president, themed entertainment. Van Roden joins WBCP from National Geographic, where he served as senior vice president, global experiences and events.

9 Story Sells New Seasons of Three Shows to ABC

9 Story Media Group has signed licenses with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) for second seasons of Camp Lakebottom (52 x 11’), Numb Chucks (52 x 11’) and Peg + Cat (50 x 11’).
The combined deal brings over 75 half hours of new programming to the public broadcaster. ABC currently airs the first seasons of Camp Lakebottom and Numb Chucks on ABC3, while Peg + Cat airs on ABC Kids.

Masha and the Bear Signs Three New Licensees

Maurizio Distefano Licensing entered into three new partnerships for its preschool property Masha and the Bear in the Italian food and accessories markets.
Swiss Eyewear Group will develop a line of Masha and the Bear sunglasses for kids ages 3 to 8. The glasses will offer different styles and colors, and feature 100-percent polarized lenses, anti-shock frames, and a modern design, ensuring maximum protection from glare.
Acqua Sant’Anna will produce and market Masha and the Bear fruit juices, iced decaffeinated tea, and still and sparkling mineral water in various sizes, starting from the easy-to-carry 25 cl bottle, up to 33cl and 50cl bottles.
PreGel will offer Italian ice cream stores flavors inspired by the series, including hazelnut, chocolate, pink sweets, and a series of themed decorations for ice cream topping.

Snyder’s-Lance Enters Licensing Arena

Synder’s-Lance has signed Brand Central as licensing agency for both brand extensions and licensing acquisitions for their portfolio of brands.
Synders-Lance portfolio includes some of America’s favorite snack foods such as Snyder's of Hanover, Lance, Cape Cod, Snack Factory Pretzel Crisps, Late July, and Stella D'oro.  Brand Central will look to secure partners for the pretzel brand, Synder’s of Hanover, in categories such as: pretzel bread, pretzel snack bars, dips, as well as restaurant partnerships.  The agency will be seeking partners for potato chip favorite Cape Cod in categories such as fresh dips, baking coatings and frozen potato french fries.  Additionally, Brand Central is exploring new brand extensions for Lance and coffee and Italian dessert products for Stella D’oro.

Actor, Singer Laura Marano Launches Fashion Apparel Line

Evy of California signed Disney’s Austin & Ally star Laura Marano to launch a fashion sportswear and outwear line. The collection will be designed for girls ages 4 to 16, and will launch in the fall. The line will feature bold styles and designs embracing Laura Marano’s boho chic look.

WBCP EMEA Launches Second Superman Kids Collection with Puma

Warner Bros. Consumer Products EMEA, on behalf of DC Entertainment, continues its relationship with Puma with the creation of a second kids collection inspired by Superman.  
The Puma x Superman collaboration includes mini versions of classic footwear styles, all of which will be available in colors associated with Superman’s suit and feature the iconic “S-Shield” on the reverse.  Available for boys and girls ages 2-12, this iconic range includes Puma’s Suede, Carson Runner and Cabana Racer.

eOne Partners with Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens for a Fundraising Campaign

Entertainment One (eOne) partnered Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens for a Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom-themed fundraising campaign to launch this spring and summer.
Nurseries, preschools, and primary schools across the UK can sign up for Ben & Holly’s Little Explorer Challenge to raise money that will help fund research into kinder treatments and cures for children’s cancers. They can sign up for free at

The campaign will run from April to July and all participants will get a free Ben & Holly’s Little Explorer-branded pack of fundraising challenges, including a Little Kingdom Treasure Hunt, Gaston’s Games, Magical Dress Up, and an Elf and Fairy party.
The pack will also include ideas and materials to make fundraising an easier process, as well as certificates for completing the challenges. eOne will support the initiative across its digital and social channels.

My Little Pony New Season to Debut on Discovery Family

An all-new season of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, the series created by Hasbro Studios, debuts on Discovery Family on Saturday, March 26. Season 6 kicks off with a one-hour premiere, where Princess Twilight Sparkle and the rest of the Mane 6 head to the Crystal Empire for the "Crystalling" of Princess Cadance and Shining Armor's new baby, Flurry Heart.

Maurizio Distefano Licensing Announces New Angry Birds Licensees

Maurizio Distefano Licensing, which has been appointed as licensing agent in Italy for Angry Birds, has announced even more licence agreements for the property in the Italian market.
The video game and brand, created and owned by Finnish computer game developer Rovio Entertainment, is set to reach screens worldwide as a major film in May.
The latest license agreements include Angry Birds-themed soaps, shampoos and other personal grooming products from children’s health and beauty products provider Admiranda; hats and scarves from accessories giant Jaxo Tirabasso; carnival costumes depicting the characters of the movie from dress-up specialist Joker; balls and beach items from Mondo, a major name in sporting goods and outdoor toys; and a brand-new apparel collection inspired by the movie and its characters from Sicem, a producer of high-quality licensed and own-label apparel.
All these ranges will be launched to coincide with the Angry Birds film release. The latest license awards are in addition to numerous licensing categories that have already been announced, including gifts, accessories, confectionery and kitchenware.

Select Brands and Nickelodeon to Spread Turtle Power Throughout Kitchens

Prior to the International Home + Housewares Show in Chicago, Select Brands and Nickelodeon will enhance their home presence with the introduction of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles–branded small appliances. The new products mark Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’s first major launch into the small appliance category.

Jumbo Signs on for Batman v Superman

Jumbo Games is releasing a DC Batman and DC Super Friends range of puzzles and games to coincide with the highly anticipated release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – in cinemas on 25th March.
Jumbo’s Batman range is aimed at slightly older children and designed to keep them entertained. Arriving in June, will be a 100 Extra-Large piece puzzle that incorporates artwork taken from the movie itself – perfectly timed for the DVD launch.
“As a huge DC Comics enthusiast myself, I’m really excited for the movie!” began Steven Russell, Marketing Manager at Jumbo Games. “With there being so much product out there for older children, our puzzles & games really do let even the youngest of fans join in with such a blockbuster event.”

Word of Web Signs New Deals for Pusheen the Cat

Word of Web, the global brand management firm representing Pusheen the Cat, and UK agent Fluid World have announced further licensing success for the UK campaign for 2016, with a strong performance in gifting, stationery, greeting cards and confectionery led by some major names in the UK market: Blueprint, Gemma, Hype, Bluw and Kinnerton.
First to market will be licensed greeting cards, gift wrap and gift tags specialist, Hype Associates, which is planning an initial range of 12-20 greeting cards starring Pusheen. Appearing at retail by mid-March in independent gift, card and book stores, the range has a core target market of female teens and young adults.
Later in the year, Gemma, another major name in licensed greetings across greeting cards and gift packaging, is planning a range of standalone cards and miscellaneous occasion captions in addition to gift wrap.  Aimed at a core target market of female teens to adults, the range will appear at independents and mid-to-high-end high street retailers from September this year.
Blueprint Collections, which designs and distributes licensed stationery and bag collections, has a wide range planned. A similarly large selection is promised by Bluw, which designs and manufactures award-winning products.
Finally, Kinnerton plans for 2017 a range of seasonal chocolate items to include Easter eggs and Advent calendars, along with some very special products that are, for now, a secret.

Silvergate Produces New Sunny Day Preschool Series for Nickelodeon

Silvergate Media has announced the production of Sunny Day, a new animated preschool series.
Sunny Day, is a 40 episode, 22 minute animated preschool series produced by Silvergate Media, which will air on Nickelodeon in early 2017.
Sunny Day follows Sunny, the best hairstylist in her town and a natural leader who believes that every problem can be solved with determination and a little creativity. Sunny Day features themes that teach preschoolers about community involvement and self-confidence.
