eOne Partners with Youth Sport Trust for PJ Masks

Entertainment One (eOne) partnered with Youth Sport Trust (YST) to make PJ Masks its brand ambassador for YST's work with kids in the UK.

eOne will collaborate with YST on a PJ Masks-branded initiative that will introduce an Early Years day to the charity's annual National School Sport Week, which will be rolled out to more than 9,000 schools and early learning venues across the UK from June 26 to 30.

The initiative—titled “Power of 3” to reflect the trio of PJ Masks heroes—aims to encourage kids to be more active and take part in regular physical activity and school sports. Power of 3 will specifically target kids ages 2 to 5 in primary schools and preschool settings.

During National School Sport Week in June, every primary school or nursery setting that registers will get free access to the PJ Masks Power of 3 activity pack full of branded activities inspired by the strengths of the three main characters: Catboy, Owlette, and Gekko.

Registration opens on March 27 and the first 500 venues to register will receive a free Power of 3 activation pack for their school or preschool nursery.

Smiley Licensing in Italy

Smiley is enjoying a renaissance in the Italian market, with 68 licensees selling into Italy across 13 categories, representing a 50% increase in licensees since 2014 and a 71% growth in revenue during that same period.

Smiley is seen as a complete lifestyle fashion brand in the Italian market, enjoying amazing brand collaborations in the last 12 months with some of the biggest names in Italian fashion including; Fendi, Moschino, Moncler, Happiness, Joshua Sanders, Jimi Roos, Le Pandorine, Palm Angels and Giuseppe Zanotti, as well as exciting DTR’s and retail partnerships with Brekka, OVS and Prenatal, as well as licensing partnerships with Sabor and Sicem, that once again prove Smiley is an all-encompassing brand that is able to take the Smile from the catwalk to the boardwalk.

2017 looks to be another strong year for the world’s happiest brand in Italy, with the launch of a host of new categories and licensees cross the full mix. Jakks Pacific Renews Licensing Agreement with Disney Consumer Products in China

Jakks Pacific Inc. renewed its multi-year licensing agreement with Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media in China for merchandise rights to more than 50 entertainment properties.

The agreement includes Disney princess and Disney Frozen for the large doll category, plus new entertainment properties including Disney’s Moana and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. The deal also covers dress-up, role-play, costumes, and masks and accessories, as well as properties for Disney Tsum Tsum collectibles, action figures, ride-ons, and wagons.

114th North American International Toy Fair Shatters Records

The Toy Industry Association’s (TIA) 114th North American International Toy Fair brought 31,133 global play lovers to New York City last week to preview hundreds of thousands of ground-breaking toys and games. The largest toy marketplace ever held in the Western Hemisphere, Toy Fair 2017 boasted a record-breaking 444,309 net square feet of exhibit space – the equivalent of nearly eight football fields filled with toys.

Toy Fair’s upbeat atmosphere matched a burgeoning U.S. toy market, which grew 5 percent in sales last year. Eager to see the latest trends in toys, games, and youth entertainment products, 14,176 retailers, wholesalers, entertainment executives, importers, buying groups, and trade guests from 96 countries were in attendance. The show drew notable increases in attendees from outside the U.S., including international buyers (+10.9 percent year-over-year) and trade guests (+33.1 percent), as well as foreign press (+17.2 percent). The top five countries represented at the show, not including the U.S. and Canada, were China, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Mexico, and Japan.

Toy Fair had 1,131 toy companies of all types and sizes showcase new product lines and key drivers for holiday in front of 10,276 (+2.4 percent) mass and specialty buyers, including delegations from 4,000 unique retail outlets and 22 of the nation’s top 25 toy sellers, such as, American Girl, Build-A-Bear Workshop, Costco, CVS, Disney Store, Target, Toys“R”Us, and Walmart. Buyer attendance from brick-and-mortar outlets grew 9.2 percent.

Cra-Z-Art Enters Licensing Deal for Nickelodeon Slime

Cra-Z-Art partnered with Nickelodeon to market and distribute slime kits in the U.S. The kits, which will be branded Nickelodeon Slime, will include the ingredients kids need to make their own version of the network’s iconic green goo.

Available this March, Slime will also come in a variety of colors and textures, including glitter, neon, and glow-in-the-dark. Cra-Z-Art already produces components of Slime, including white and clear glue, in the U.S.

Nickelodeon Slime will be manufactured in the U.S. and is expected to be available at major retailers prior to the Easter holiday.

DHX and Abbey in Deal

Abbey Home Media has announced a deal with DHX Media for the UK home entertainment license for Bob the Builder and Fireman Sam. Under the deal, London based children’s producer and distributor Abbey will release four DVD titles this year including two, hour-long specials: Bob the Builder: Mega Machines – The Movie and Fireman Sam: Alien Alert – The Movie.

Emma Evans, Acquisitions Director of Abbey Home Media, said: “We are delighted that DHX Media have appointed Abbey Home Media as their UK home entertainment partner for selected episodes from the Bob the Builder and Fireman Sam series, as well as the feature-length movies. These are both evergreen stand-out brands and a great addition to our portfolio of titles.”

Granarolo, Angry Birds Partner for Special Edition Yogurt Line

Granarolo will partner with the Angry Birds brand to bring special editions of its 100 percent natural Yomino yogurt lines to retail.

Yomino Angry Birds products will be available beginning in the first quarter of this year in Italian supermarkets, hypermarkets, and traditional channels. When customers buy an Angry Birds Yomino product, they will receive points that can be collected and redeemed for a prize.

Yomino is Granarolos’ Yomo line of products for kids. The line includes squeezable yogurt that is produced in Italy with only Italian milk and no dyes, preservatives, flavorings, or thickeners. The agreement was signed by Maurizio Distefano Licensing (MD Licensing), on behalf of Angry Birds brand owner Rovio.

BrownTrout Publishers Is First I Like Birds Licensee

Jane Evans, founder and MD of global licensing group JELC, exclusive licensing agent worldwide for the bird-themed cards and gifts brand I Like Birds, has announced the first I Like Birds licensee.

BrownTrout Publishers has been licensed to produce a range of 2018 calendars for the UK market using the unique and beautiful bird-themed designs produced by the extraordinary artistic talents of I Like Birds founder Stuart Cox.

The range launched at Spring Fair 2017 and is targeted at a wide demographic led by young adults. It will be available from major retailers and online at from Q3 2017.

Cartoon Network Adds UK Apparel and Accessories Partners for The Powerpuff Girls

Turner’s Cartoon Network EMEA adds partners to the apparel and accessories category for The Powerpuff Girls in the UK. The announcement follows the recent unveiling of London-based fashion label Fyodor Golan’s line inspired by the animated series.

The Powerpuff Girls x Fyodor Golan debuted at London Fashion Week last month. Set to launch in July at select department stores and boutiques worldwide, the full range of products includes outerwear, tops, sweatshirts, skirts, dresses, and trousers. Bioworld Europe was signed to launch a range of ladies’ apparel that features T-shirts, sweatshirts, jumpers, and leggings that launched to coincide with London Fashion Week. H&A will develop a cosmetics collection that will be available in September. Set to debut in the fall, Trademark will introduce kids’ fashion bags and Imagine8 will feature a jewelry and hair accessories line.

The UK merchandise roll-out was led by global toy partner Spin Master, which launched its range with UK retailers including Argos, The Entertainer, Smyths, Amazon, and grocers including Tesco and ASDA. The Powerpuff Girls licensing program will expand in May with new products in categories that include publishing, fashion, accessories, gifting, homewares, personal care, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), and back-to-school.

Preschool Show Clangers Lands on Netflix U.S.

International rights owner Coolabi Group announces that the first series of hit pre-school show Clangers will be available on Netflix US from March 2017.

American viewers will be able to stream the 26 x 22’ episodes of the stop-motion animation, which is narrated in the US by cultural icon William Shatner. The show premiered on Sprout in the US and on CBeebies in the UK.

The show follows Major, Mother, Small, Tiny and Granny Clanger, loveable pink, mouse-like creatures, who communicate in whistles and eat soup from their little blue planet’s soup wells. They are joined by their friends, the Iron Chicken, Soup Dragon, Sky Moos, the Eggbots and many more on a whole host of new adventures, making friends, solving problems and spreading kindness.

Beanstalk Signs Bruce Lee Enterprises

Bruce Lee Enterprises signed an exclusive representation agreement for advertising licensing with Beanstalk. The partnership between Beanstalk and Bruce Lee Enterprises will extend the personality rights of the icon for use in advertising, long-term brand associations, and select product opportunities.

Lee is known for his martial art called Jeet Kune Do, which incorporates mind, body, and spirit, and is applied to all areas of his life and work. As an actor, he redefined the perception of Asian Americans in Hollywood. His legacy of self-expression, equality, and pioneering innovation continues to inspire people around the world.

Licensing Link Announces New Campaign for Robot Wars

Brand extension and strategy agency Licensing Link has announced a partnership with Passion Distribution to develop a consumer products licensing programme for Robot Wars, the hit TV show in which teams of robot makers put their creations into battle.

A key target category for the first phase of the Robot Wars licensing programme will be a master toy licensee that will develop themed play-sets, including the Robot Wars arena, vehicles and figures. Publishing and apparel are also among the key categories in the campaign, which will be supported by a series of live events building on the success of the initiatives that supported the series’ relaunch in 2016.

The target market for the campaign will be Robot Wars fans of all ages, but it will include a strong emphasis on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning, to encourage a new generation into robotics and engineering.

First launched in 1998 and on air until 2004, Robot Wars burst back onto British TV screens in July 2016. The series arrived on BBC2 with a revamped format, a panel of robotics expert judges and new presenters Dara Ó Briain and Angela Scanlon. It received a very positive response from both reviewers and audiences. So far the new series has been licensed in Germany, New Zealand, CEE, CIS and Africa.The latest season of Robot Wars — 6 x 60 minute episodes — launched in March and airs on Sunday nights at 7pm.

FMK, Thomas Cook Partner to Bring Danger Mouse Activities This Summer

FremantleMedia Kids & Family (FMK) and Thomas Cook partnered to bring Danger Mouse activities to the Thomas Cook and Airtours kids’ clubs this summer.

Forty Thomas Cook and Airtours kids’ clubs will feature special Danger Mouse-themed two-hour sessions, with secret activities that revolve around the TV series. The partnership will kickoff in July and continue until September. The initiative is expected to reach approximately 65,000 children from the UK traveling on holiday with Thomas Cook.

Danger Mouse follows the adventures of the eponymous secret agent and his ever-faithful sidekick Penfold as they engage in all manner of mind-blowing missions aided, abetted, and aggravated by a menagerie of old and new allies and adversaries.

Mondo TV Suisse Announces Global YooHoo & Friends Deal

Mondo TV Suisse, a division of Mondo TV has announced a global licensing and merchandising agreement for the brand-new animated children’s series YooHoo & Friends, with Panini SpA, a global leader in the production and distribution of stickers and trading cards.

Panini has been awarded a worldwide license allowing it to create and market such items as stickers, trading cards and photocards in local languages using the YooHoo & Friends brand and characters. The products are expected to launch at retail in early 2018.

Yoohoo & Friends is a new series, launching in 2017, in which five cute friends help endangered animals. The show is based on the globally successful line of Aurora World YooHoo & Friends plush toys, more than 80 million of which have been sold since the worldwide launch of the line in 2007.

Firefly Brand Management secured a lineup of licensing deals for the Bob Ross licensing program. The new licensees span multiple categories including gift and novelty, stationery, accessories, games, toys, and collectibles.

Bob Ross's instructional TV series The Joy of Painting premiered in 1983 on Public Television, where it continues to run today. SmileyWorld Expands in Germany; Smiley Teams with Auchan

As The Smiley Company continues to announce new partnerships to mark the 20th anniversary since CEO Nicolas Loufrani, created the world’s first digital smileys, it is delighted to announce a new collaboration with leading German retail chain REWE, who have over 3,000 stores in Germany.

Masha and The Bear Reels in Viewers on Big and Small Screens

Smash 3D animated family show Masha and the Bear continues to pull in viewers around the world, through both cinemas and TV broadcast.

Several cinematic distribution companies have snapped up Season 3 of the hit show prior to TV broadcast release and audiences across Europe have responded by flocking to screenings of the exclusive content. Pathé Live Kids in France and Sweden, Mountain Road in the Netherlands and Belgium, and Warner Bros. Entertainment in Italy have all distributed content to cinemas, leading to significant ticket sales.

On TV, spin-off show Masha’s Spooky Stories, which sees Masha - in her own inimitable style - showing how typical childhood fears are really nothing to worry about, is proving a big hit with broadcasters. The Value of Brand in Italy Is Growing

The BLTF 2017, in its tenth edition, is organized by BolognaFiere and will be held between the 3rd and the 5th April at the Bologna Exhibition Centre at the same time as the Children’s Book Fair.

The Nation Brands Report, put together by the British company Brand Finance, uses the same method employed to estimate the value of the world’s leading businesses, elaborating data supplied by international organizations and market research companies (including World Economic Forum, GfK, fDi Intelligence, IMD). The results for 2016 confirm the USA in first place in the leading top 100 countries with an estimated brand turnover of 20,574 billion dollars (+4% compared with 2016). In second place is China (7,087 billion dollars, +12%), followed by Germany in spite of a slight fall (3,882 billion, -7%) and Japan (3,002 billion, +18%). Italy remains in ninth position with an estimated revenue outlook for “brand Italy” of 1,521 billion dollars, a modest increase compared with the 1,445 billion of 2015 (+5%). Next in line are Australia (1,305 billion, -7%) and the Netherlands (1,121 billion, +12%). At the other end of the list are Cyprus and Cameroon (both with 10 billion).

There is one month to go until “BLTF 2017”, where, once again, the leading Italian companies and many international labels are expected to attend. The 2016 edition involved 58 exhibitors, of which 22 came from outside Italy from 14 countries, representing 800 brands. The coming edition will see an increase in exhibition space, the programme includes the return of “Licensing Prospect Day”, which has the aim of involving new players from the manufacturing sector in the world of licensed products. The Fair will also include the fifth edition of the “Licensing Retail Day”, organized in collaboration with Largo Consumo, which will include the presence of important European and international distribution networks. Also planned is the first edition of the “Bologna Licensing Award”, a competition open only to exhibitors at the event and awarded to the best licensing and product development programme during the two-year period between 2015 and 2016. Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa, Nickelodeon Viacom Consumer Products and Character Licensing & Marketing (CLM) South Africa have revealed that an extensive consumer products rollout for Nickelodeon’s hit pre-school TV series Shimmer and Shine will begin in South Africa in June 2017.

In this role it is important to understand the needs of each agent and their creative division, supporting the London & New York offices and working with the part time US designer to coordinate design consistency and efficiency. GENERAL SUMMARY: Creates strategic direction for active licensee base and negotiates new partnerships within assigned categories to achieve growth objectives. Directs tactical execution of licensed product lines from concept/line plan through commercialization.


  • Manage existing licensees in assigned categories:
    • Evaluate licensee’s quarterly marketing, retail and financial forecasts to ensure licensees on are track to meet established contractual obligations, royalty payments and forecast goals.
    • Organize and run licensee orientations, business reviews, semiannual/quarterly line reviews, and brain storm sessions.
    • Address specific licensee performance issues
    • Negotiate renewals on a timely basis
    • Provides input for annual departmental budget and plan
  • Ensure licensees develop seasonal lines in time for internal seasonal review and develop documents and presentations to communicate licensee’s initiatives to internal Crayola departments
    • Set trend direction and make recommendations for new product entry
    • Direct category research and product concept testing as needed with the consumer insights team
    • Work with creative and product development on design and creative direction for licensed product and packaging
    • Responsible for managing licensee press releases, cross marketing and promotions
    • Ensure adherence to internal approval process (i.e. safety, quality, financial, legal, content, creative, consumer activation, consumer affairs etc.) and assist in resolving issues.
  • Negotiate new licensed strategic partnerships for assigned segments in conjunction with established category strategies
    • Research, secure and develop new licensees building upon the success of existing segments in order to achieve predictable, profitable and sustainable growth
    • Negotiate deal terms including: grant of rights, royalty rates, guarantees, projections and business plans
  • 7 years’ experience in licensing or consumer marketing work for a CPG company.
  • Bachelors’ degree preferred

Executive Seeks New Challenges

I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.

I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
