Entertainment One Expands Peppa Pig Licensing Program in the U.S.
 

Entertainment One Licensing (eOne) expands Peppa Pig this year with the addition of two new licensing partners and several line extensions in the toy, book, and DVD categories. The rollout will be supported by a new Peppa Pig website set to launch in the spring. The platform will provide a safe space for parents and children to interact with Peppa and friends through newly developed games, forums, and digital content.
 
VTech will launch a Peppa Pig e-book and software download available for its InnoTab Learning Tablet range. The new content will provide fans with educational on-the-go access to Peppa and friends. Penwizard has signed on to produce personalized books, which will allow fans to star alongside Peppa in an array of adventures featuring each child’s name and likeness. The books will be available this spring. Fisher-Price will launch a new line of ballet-themed Peppa Pig plush dolls, play sets, and figurines in August exclusively at Toys “R” Us. Existing Peppa Pig merchandise from Fisher-Price will be available at Toys “R” Us and Walmart locations nationwide.  Scholastic and Candlewick Press will also release new Peppa Pig books throughout the year.

eOne will launch its first national retail-wide Peppa Pig releases with three new DVD titles scheduled for March, August, and October. Each title will include an assortment of episodes featuring the adventures of Peppa and friends, as well as bonus content.

Jazwares Launches Gravity Falls, NBA Lines, Expands Minecraft Lineup

Jazwares will create a new Gravity Falls toy line. The line, based on the Disney TV series, will include figures, plush, role-play, and play set toys based on Dipper and Mabel’s adventures with Grunkle Stan, his mysterious journal, and The Mystery Shack.  The first wave of Gravity Falls toys will be available this fall at specialty retailers across the U.S. 
 
Jazwares has penned a new licensing agreement with the National Basketball Association (NBA) to create the first line of NBA Heroes action figures, play sets, and role-play toys. The line will be available in the U.S. and Canada this fall. The new approach to professional basketball players will feature classic action figure attributes, fused with super-heroic alter egos.
NBA Heroes will start its lineup with LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose, Carmelo Anthony, and Deron Williams. Releasing later this year, the fully articulated figures will be done in six-inch scale, proportionate to each player’s height and build. The collection will be accompanied by a separate environmental play set.
 
Jazwares expands its core Minecraft action figure line to include Series 2, which will feature core-scale figure packs of Diamond Armor Steve, Iron Golem, Blacksmith Villager, and a deluxe Animal Mobs 6-pack. The Diamond Armor Steve pack will include Steve with removable helmet, diamond sword, and diamond ore block. The Iron Golem pack will come with accessories including a poppy flower and a block of iron. The Blacksmith Villager pack will include a removable apron and an anvil accessory. The Animal Mobs 6-pack will include one cow, a sheep, a tamed wolf, a pig, an ocelot, and a chicken. The new items will be available at retailers this spring.

Saban Brands Inks Publishing Deal for Julius Jr.

Saban Brands has inked a global publishing deal with Random House Children’s Books for Julius Jr. The publishing program will include an interactive collection of books inspired by the adventures and magical storytelling of the TV series. Random House has acquired worldwide English rights, and the books will be published under the company's Golden Books and Random House Books for Young Readers imprints.
   
The collection will be available this fall and will include a full range of color and activity books, leveled readers, storybooks, and novelty books for preschool kids.

Bioworld Acquires Nolan Glove Co., Launches Nolan Originals

Bioworld Merchandising recently acquired Nolan Glove Co. Inc. Nolan has been a New York-based family-run company since 1920, specializing in children’s headwear, as well as spring and cold weather accessories.  The newly created division, Nolan Originals, will continue to work with top tier brands Carters, Osh Kosh, and Laundry by Shelli Segal, as well as, the Nolan Glove Company’s private-label brands. Bioworld and Nolan Originals will build a broader platform for children’s accessories.

OPI Products Partners with Coca-Cola Co. For Nail Lacquer

OPI Products Inc. has collaborated with Coca-Cola Co. for a line of nail lacquer. Several of the company’s most recognized brands, including Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Cherry Coke, Vanilla Coke, Sprite, and Fanta will be the inspiration for a line of OPI limited-edition nail lacquers that will launch internationally in May.

Imangi Studios Partners with Factory Entertainment, Basic Fun for Temple Run Products

Imangi Studios, creator of Temple Run, has entered partnerships with Factory Entertainment and Basic Fun to expand the Temple Run franchise with new licensed products. With more than 500 million downloads of Temple Run and Temple Run 2, the series is one of the biggest in mobile gaming.
 
Factory Entertainment will produce a line of Temple Run plush toys based on the series’ cast of characters. Demon Monkeys and Temple Idols will be available at retailers this fall, with other characters such as Guy Dangerous and Karma Lee to follow.
 
Basic Fun will produce the first Temple Run handheld LCD game. The game packs all the fun of Temple Run into a portable and durable device with a carabiner-style clip. After selecting their favorite characters, players can run to escape Demon Monkeys and avoid obstacles with a twist on the classic Temple Run action. The game will be available next spring.

Gwen Stefani has launched her new accessories label, gx by Gwen Stefani, available exclusively at shoedazzle.com/gx.
 
gx by Gwen Stefani is available in its dedicated boutique on ShoeDazzle.com, with new styles launching monthly. Each release includes both shoes and handbags.
 
The debut collection mixes elements of tribal, pop, punk, and street influences. Sprout Launches TV Everywhere and Sprout NOW App

Sprout has launched Sprout NOW, giving subscribers access to its content on any device. Preschoolers and their families will be able to access their favorite Sprout series, including original programming such as The Chica Show and Noodle and Doodle, a library of gold standard series, including Caillou and Sesame Street, and U.S. exclusives including Lazytown and Tree Fu Tom via www.sproutonline.com/now and through Sprout NOW, available in Apple’s app store. Sprout NOW, which derives its name from the Bravo NOW app, offers Sprout’s live linear stream of programming as well as full episodes on demand and more.
 
The launch marks an important step in NBCUniversal’s long-term strategy to provide both viewers and marketers with a user-friendly way to engage with its content on multiple platforms. Sprout NOW will be available for Android later this year.
 
TV Everywhere is available on an authenticated basis to subscribers of participating MVPDs. Fans can access long-form content through Sprout’s digital touchpoints on PCs, smartphones, and tablets, and may also be able to access through the apps and websites of participating cable, satellite, and telco services, via “TV Everywhere,” including AT&T U-verse TV, BrightHouse, Cablevision’s Optimum TV, Charter, Comcast’s Xfinity TV, Cox Communications, DIRECTV,  Mediacom, Time Warner Cable, Verizon FiOS, and Wide Open West (WOW).

9 Story Acquires Distribution Rights to Get Ace

9 Story Enterprises, the international distribution arm of 9 Story Entertainment, has acquired worldwide distribution rights (excluding Australia and New Zealand) to the animated comedy series Get Ace. The series is produced by Galaxy Pop and premiered recently on Network Ten’s Eleven in Australia.
 
Get Ace is a fast-paced comedy that follows a loveable geeky hero and his quirky sidekick,” says Natalie Osborne, managing director, 9 Story Entertainment. “The universal struggles that Ace faces growing up are highly relatable, and the high tech spy storylines are seriously cool and exciting. This hilarious series is a fantastic addition to our library and we are thrilled to introduce it to audiences around the world.”

Chupa Chups Appoints P&L Global Network

Perfetti Van Melle Group has appointed P&L Global Network as the exclusive licensing agency of Chupa Chups for Mexico. P&L Global Network will be responsible for the implementation and launch of the licensing program.

Chelsea Football Club Added to The Simpsons Global Soccer Program Lineup

Chelsea Football Club is the latest acclaimed international soccer team to join Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products' campaign featuring a collaboration between The Simpsons and soccer. Joining FC Barcelona, FC Zenit Saint Petersburg, Sport Club Corinthians, FC Porto, Juventus, and Boca Juniors, Chelsea Football Club will co-create a line of branded merchandise that will be available to consumers this year. A soccer-themed episode of The Simpsons will air in March on Fox.
 
Soccer fans worldwide will be able to own a range of exclusive products with the participating club teams that feature The Simpsons branding. Each participating team’s merchandise will include never-before-created “Simpsonized” versions of its main roster, transformed into custom characters as part of the entire line of products.

The soccer-themed episode of The Simpsons will feature Homer and his recruitment as a soccer referee, after Lisa praises his integrity in a Springfield Elementary speech contest held on the youth soccer field.
 
Additional national and international soccer teams will sign on as part of this licensing partnership in the coming months.

The Furchester Hotel Opens For Business as Filming Begins in Salford

The Furchester Hotel, the new kids' series from CBeebies and Sesame Workshop, has begun filming at BBC Children's home in MediaCityUK, Salford.
 
The series is about a close-knit family of cheerfully incompetent Muppet monsters who own and operate a hotel. The proprietors are Funella Furchester, the welcoming monster owner; her loving husband, Furgus Fuzz; and their daughter, the unflappable Phoebe Furchester-Fuzz. The Furchester family is joined at the hotel by Phoebe's cousin Elmo, who is on an extended visit, and Cookie Monster, who has landed his dream job as room service and dining room waiter.
 
The Furchester Hotel promotes creative problem solving skills for kids. As the Furchester family scrambles to meet the needs of its guests, they brainstorm possible solutions to problems that arise.
 
Filming began February 24 and will continue for more than three months. The Furchester Hotel set fills all 700 square meters of the HQ2 studio at dock10, MediaCityUK and shows the interior and the garden of The Furchester Hotel. It takes approximately 70 cast and crew to make the series, including nine puppeteers and four assistant puppeteers. The Furchester Hotel is co-produced by Sesame Workshop and In House Production team at CBeebies. The 52 11-minute episode series is set to debut on CBeebies this fall in the UK.

Bulldog Bags Another Licensee For Garfield

Brand International will produce a new line of footwear and slippers featuring Garfield in a deal brokered by Bulldog Licensing.
 
Brand International joins a strong UK licensing program for the Garfield brand. Other partners include Ravette for publishing, Smiffys for dress-up, MGML for greetings cards, wrap, tags and social stationery, and J Fox for accessories. Garfield apparel is also a big seller in the UK through licensees including Blues, Silverknit, and Brand Alliance.

Turner Broadcasting Appoints Lesley Bailey to Vice President of Channel Marketing and Brand Management

Turner Broadcasting has announced the appointment of Lesley Bailey to the newly created role of vice president of channel marketing and brand management for its EMEA business.
 
She will be responsible for leading Turner Broadcasting’s kids channel marketing and brand management strategy; delivering comprehensive marketing and franchise plans underpinned by competitive and audience insights. The core mission of Lesley and her team is to generate levels of awareness and affinity for Turner’s kids portfolio to support revenue growth in ratings, licensing and merchandising, and ad sales.
 
Bailey will report directly to Patricia Hidalgo, senior vice president content and creative officer, EMEA and will be based in the company’s regional head offices in London.
 
Previously, Bailey has held senior marketing and brand management roles for entertainment companies including Walt Disney and Hit Entertainment.

Betty Boop and Fashion Lab Team Up

King Features has partnered with clothing licensee Fashion Lab for Betty Boop in the UK.
 
As the worldwide exclusive licensing agent for Betty Boop, King Features works closely with Fleischer Studios.
 
King Features’ agent in the UK, Allsorts Licensing, has secured a three-year deal with Fashion Lab to develop a range of girls', teens', and ladies' clothing. Products will include leisurewear, underwear, and outerwear, as well as adult lingerie and matching accessories.
 
Andrew Webster, VP Fashion Lab, says: “We are very much looking forward to working with everyone on the Betty Boop brand. We love properties with great heritage and believe that we shall have a strong reaction from all our retail partners over the near future as we put our ideas into action.”

Outfit7 and BRB in Talking Tom Deal

BRB Internacional and Outfit7 have penned a deal to produce a new TV series Talking Tom and Friends. The 52 11-minute episodes will be based on the entertainment brand of the same name that became one of the fastest-growing entertainment app series of all time. 
 
A trailer for the Talking Tom and Friends series will make its debut at MIPTV, taking place in Cannes from April 7 to 10.
 
“We’ve spent many years developing our brands, their characters and personalities, so that they resonate with people of all cultures, ages and demographics,” said Samo Login, founder and CEO of Outfit7. “It is important that we partner with a company that shares our vision and love for our characters. Copyrights Announces New Head of Product Development

The Copyrights Group has welcomed Demi Patel to the newly created role of head of product development.
 
Patel will oversee all product design and development working alongside creative director Linda Pooley. Patel has experience having worked on a number of award-winning properties throughout her licensing career. She most recently ran the Creative Services team at Zodiak Rights for more than five years, working on brands including Waybuloo, Mister Maker, and Tickety Toc. Prior to this, she held creative positions at BBC Worldwide, launching to market the hugely successful In the Night Garden and began her career at ITV working across a broad portfolio of brands.
 
“Demi brings with her a wealth of industry experience and we are thrilled to have such a well regarded and enthusiastic individual join the team,” said Linda Pooley.

Mask-arade Looks to Change the Face of the World Cup

The Mask-arade concept was born at a football match, with Chris O’Nyan, Dean Walton, and Ray Duffy first trialing their idea with Kevin Phillips masks at a West Brom game nearly six years ago.
 
The 2010 World Cup saw demand for their football masks grow, and many high street retailers took the lines as an impulse buy. The 2012 Olympics was also a successful sales period, and the company's range was increased to include flag face masks to cater to international visitors.
 
Mask-arade sales director Chris O'Nyan says, "With this year’s football World Cup looming and football fever about to grip the nation, we are already seeing massive orders from major retailers who see our masks as a perfect pocket money, fun product." Mask-arade has launched a range of World Cup-related products, including flag-masks depicting the competing nations and licensed masks of England’s top players, including Wayne Rooney, Steven Gerrard, Joe Hart, and Roy Hodgson. Mask-arade already supplies licensed products to Manchester United, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

Sanrio Partners with Biscuiteers for Mr. Men Little Miss

Sanrio's Mr. Men Little Miss has partnered with hand-iced biscuit specialists Biscuiteers for a collection of Mr. Men Little Miss iced biscuits and cakes. The treats will be available this month at select retailers, via www.biscuiteers.com, and from the Biscuiteers Boutique & Icing Cafe in Notting Hill, London.
 
The deal, brokered by Sanrio’s UK licensing agent, Fluid World, is the first in a number of collaborations planned for the Mr. Men Little Miss brand this year and it is the first time Biscuiteers have collaborated with a licensed character.

Calimero Sees Strong Start on TF1

Since its launch on February 9 on TF1’s children’s block TFOU, Calimero has achieved an average audience share over three Sundays of 35.8 percent (source: Médiamétrie/Mediamat: children ages 4 to 10, February 9, 16, and 23).
 
These results are confirmed on TF1’s digital media, where Calimero ranked third favorite hero on tfou.fr in just two weeks.
 
In addition to TF1, the new CGI-animated series is set to air on Italy’s RAI, Germany’s Super RTL, Disney Junior, TV Tokyo, Tele Quebec, and TSR in Switzerland. Gaumont Animation coproduced the series with Calidra, the right owner, Italy’s Studio Campedelli and Japanese partners TV Tokyo and Kodansha. Gaumont Animation distributes the program and manages the brand internationally (excluding Asia) on behalf of Calidra.

Spider-Man and Stars to Join Earth Hour Event in Singapore

The director, producers, and cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be in Singapore to celebrate this year's global flagship event for Earth Hour, the world's largest environmental grassroots movement, to be held at The Float@Marina Bay on March 29.
 
Spider-Man will join the film's stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Jamie Foxx in the event, helping to switch off the lights across Singapore's signature Marina Bay skyline. The stars will also throw their support behind Earth Hour's newly launched crowdfunding and crowdsourcing platform Earth Hour Blue, with a message to people worldwide to become super heroes for the planet.

Disguise Inc., the Halloween costume division of Jakks Pacific Inc., and Rubie’s Costume Company will continue to produce classic Mighty Morphin Power Rangers costumes as well as new styles from the current and upcoming Power Rangers seasons for kids and adults. Power Rangers costumes from Disguise will be available throughout North America, and Rubie’s will be available in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
