Jakks Pacific Secures Worldwide Master Toy Agreement for The Smurfs

Jakks Pacific Inc. has secured a licensing agreement with Lafig and Sony Pictures Consumer Products to produce toys and related products based on the Smurfs franchise, including the classic Smurfs brand and the upcoming Smurfs feature film premiering in August 2016. The worldwide master toy agreement includes the rights to produce figures, play sets, plush, and more. Jakks Pacific’s new Smurfs toys will be available at retailers nationwide this fall.

GBI Partners with Penguin Young Readers for Llama Llama Brand

Llama LlamaGenius Brands International has partnered with Penguin Young Readers and author/illustrator Anna Dewdney to lead the worldwide expansion of Dewdney’s book franchise, Llama Llama. For the first time, GBI will create animated content based on the Llama Llama books for multiplatform distribution.
In addition, GBI is developing a global licensing and merchandising program for the brand across multiple categories, including toys, games, apparel, accessories, bedding, and healthy snacks. The products are anticipated to launch at retail next year.
The book series has previously been adapted for the stage, dance performances, and musicals. Books in the line include Llama Llama Red Pajama, Llama Lama and the Bully GoatLlama Lama Time to ShareLlama Llama Misses MamaLlama Llama Holiday Drama, and Llama Llama Mad at Mama.

Celebrate Peanuts in the Bakery with New Products

Snoopy CakePeanuts Worldwide LLC and DecoPac have entered a multi-year license agreement to offer cake, cupcake, and dessert decorations for the Peanuts characters, Snoopy, and Snoopy’s sister Belle. New cake and cupcake designs will be offered at leading retailers nationwide.
To launch the program, Valentine’s Day cake designs highlighting Snoopy and Belle were recently featured at a Peanuts-themed Valentine’s Day Party with Francesca Capaldi, who will be starring as Charlie Brown’s beloved Little Red-Haired Girl in the Twentieth Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios Peanuts 3D feature film, debuting worldwide on November 6. Party-goers at the Park Hyatt in Carlsbad, Calif. enjoyed Snoopy and Belle Valentine’s cake and had fun decorating their own Valentine’s themed cupcakes.
DecoPac is currently working to launch both seasonal and movie-themed products, which will continue to roll out through this year. Beyond Valentine’s Day, Peanuts will also be featured in graduation, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas designs.

The Simpsons Arrives on Minecraft for Xbox

Simpsons MinecraftMinecraft players can bring the TV world of Springfield to life in cubic glory, now that Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and Microsoft have launched The Simpsons content packs for Minecraft Xbox 360 and Xbox One editions. The recently released downloadable pack includes the entire Simpsons family—Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie—plus 19 of Springfield Elementary School’s characters.

Highlights for Children, Mega Brands Partner for Puzzles

Highlights for Children Inc. and Mega Brands Inc. have entered a multi-year partnership to develop a new line of puzzles featuring Highlights’ Hidden Pictures illustrations. The puzzles will be for kids ages 3 and up. The license was brokered by Dimensional Branding Group.

Pantone Colorwear Launches Apparel Line with Mentos, Chupa Chups

Pantone ColorwearPerfetti Van Melle and Pantone Colorwear have teamed up to create an international outwear collection with Mentos and Chupa Chups.
Mentos has made its debut in the licensing business through fashion with a collection that has a modern and ironic effect. Pantone Colorwear has dismantled and zoomed in the logo and played with the colors of the brand to fuse them within the iconic Pantone chip.
The Chupa Chups capsule collection combines the flower-shaped logo with popular flavors of the lollipops, transforming them into a sweet color palette of Strawberry Cream, Vibrant Orange, Lemon, and Green Apple.
The collection focuses on basic items, such as T-shirts and sweatshirts with and without hoods, but with made-in-Italy quality with an innovative material. The outside viscose cotton gives a fresh twist, while inside the treated merino felt is soft and warm.
The collection will hit premium retail shelves worldwide in September.

International Pavilions to Feature New Countries, Expanded Exhibits at Licensing Expo

Licensing ExpoThe licensing industry continues to expand its global reach, and Licensing Expo is amplifying its international focus with new Pavilions and increased representation from countries such as Mexico, India, and the UK. These new pavilions highlight the more than 35 countries represented on the show floor, including Pavilions for Brazil and Korea, and a significantly expanded footprint from China and Japan this year. Each Pavilion serves as its own commercial center, offering a full range of licensing activity, including brands from that country looking to license out, and licensors looking to bring their brands into that region.
LIMA is the official sponsor of Licensing Expo, which will take place June 9 to 11 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Kate Spade & Co. Signs Four New Home Goods Licensing Agreements

Kate Spade & Co. will expand its home category with four new licensing agreements under the kate spade new york brand. The collections will debut between May and next spring, and will be available at fine retailers, interior design showrooms, and at
The new home collections include bedding, bath, furniture, fabric, wallpaper, and rugs, and will complement existing categories such as tabletop with Lenox Corp., table linens and kitchen textiles with Town & Country Living, and stationery and gifting collections with Lifeguard Press.
Kate Spade & Co. is also collaborating with DWI Holdings for bedding and bath,
EJ Victor for furniture, Kravet for fabric and wallpaper, and Jaipur for rugs. Additionally, the company will expand its license with Lenox Corp. and will introduce a kate spade new york housewares collection named All in Good Taste. The new collection will feature decorative food prep items, cookware, and bakeware, and will be available in August.

Goodyear, Kent Team Up for Bicycle Tires

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has signed a four-year licensing deal with bicycle maker Kent International Inc. for replacement bicycle tires. The tires will be sold at retailers such as Wal-Mart and Dunham’s Athleisure Corp. in the U.S. and Canada.
The arrangement with Goodyear will help Kent expand its bike-accessory offerings. The deal builds on its opening of a South Carolina factory last year in support of Wal-Mart’s Made in America campaign.

AALMG Signs Legendary Hatfield & McCoy Brand

AALMG will develop a comprehensive strategy that will include a line of products that incorporate the history, culture, and craftsmanship of both families, who came together to share American Appalachian/mountain traditions.
The Hatfield-McCoy feud is a liberty- and freedom-loving American roots story. After more than 150 years, it remains the most notorious family feud in American folklore. The feud has inspired movies, cartoons, music, game shows, books, art, TV shows, and tourism. The two clans still live along the West Virginia and Kentucky border, working the coalmines and, for the very first time, legally making whiskey and other spirits.


First-Ever Brand & Lifestyle Awards Launched

Brand & Lifestyle AwardsThe very first ever Brand & Lifestyle Licensing Awards have been launched by Max Publishing. Set to break new ground, recognizing the dynamism and growth of brand licensing these annual awards will reward excellence in brand licensed merchandise, IP management as well as retail execution of brand licensed products.
Launched by Max Publishing (which has a pedigree in both licensing and awards, exemplified by the UK Licensing Awards and the Licensing Source Book), the Brand & Lifestyle Licensing Awards have been welcomed by the industry, with many providing invaluable input into their creation.
The inaugural award winners will be unveiled at a lavish afternoon event held at The Dorchester, Park Lane, London on Wednesday 20 April 2016, attended by retailers, licensees, brand owners and representatives.

CPLG Expands European Presence

Copyright Promotions Licensing Group, part of DHX Media, is extending its footprint in Europe, and is now open for business in Nordic and Central & Eastern Europe with offices planned in Stockholm and Warsaw respectively.
The expansion will be managed by Maarten Weck, currently MD of CPLG Benelux, who becomes MD of CPLG Northern Europe.

SMMEX 2015The countdown to SMMEX – the Sports Merchandise & Marketing Exhibition has begun and the organisers have announce that a huge range of manufacturers, suppliers & marketing specialists have joined the event on Monday 9th March. Visitors can even find Total Licensing on Stand 237!
The event is designed for license holder of sports, entertainment, brands or characters who can meet over 140 manufacturers, marketers and creative executives at SMMEX.

Creator Sylvia Anderson to Feature in Special Thunderbirds Episode

Thunderbirds Are GoLondon-based ITV today recently released an exclusive look at classic characters from the anticipated new children’s and family  series, Thunderbirds Are Go.
The pictures feature engineer Brains; Lady Penelope and her trusty bodyguard and driver, Parker in front of the pink, six-wheeled car FAB1.
Lady Penelope is voiced by Oscar-nominated, Rosamund Pike and David Graham reprises his original role as Parker. Kayvan Novak voices inventor, Brains.
ITV have also announced that Sylvia Anderson - who voiced Lady Penelope in the original 1960’s series - will voice a new character in an episode due to air later this year.
Written by comedian, David Baddiel, the episode titled Designated Driver sees Sylvia voice the character of Lady Penelope’s Great Aunt Sylvia.
The new children’s series - a co-production between ITV Studios and Pukeko Pictures in association with world-famous Weta Workshop - is set to debut internationally in Spring 2015 in the UK exclusively on ITV and CITV.

Francisco Ceron Art on Triforce Luggage Range

Character World Wins Disney Award

Character World Disney AwardUK-based Character World is celebrating after scooping an award at The Walt Disney Company UK & Ireland 2014 Licensee Awards.
Character World was named Business Partner of the Year at the awards ceremony, which celebrated excellence in licensing for Disney.
The award was in recognition of a leading licensing business that has had a decade long relationship with Disney. In the licensed bedding industry for 16 years, Character World’s Frozen product ranges flew off the shelves last year in a number of retailers across the UK. They also introduced a premium sub brand, Kip & Sew, and launched a new, luxury collection, Disney Gold Label.
Danny Schweiger, joint managing director of Character World, said, “It’s fantastic to pick up this prestigious award on behalf of the whole team at Character World. There was strong competition from a number of leading licensees to win the award so this is a real testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone in the business. The shortlist and winners for each category were decided by a panel of senior Disney executives, who based their decisions on various relevant criteria including consumer engagement, product innovation, cross-category approach and communication across multiple platforms.

CPC and Maya Studio Announce Licensing Program

CPC & MayaConsumer Product Connection, a global intellectual property management company, and Javi Molner, General Director & Founder of Maya Studio, have today announced their alliance to develop a licensing program in Europe and the eastern countries.
Maya Studio offers a range of uniquely styled brands to various different market segments and ideologies. Javi Molner, an artist from Valencia who draws his inspiration from day-to-day life to offer a touch of humour, colour and parody through his work.
“Mexican Skulls” is one of his brands that has signed various co-branding agreements to skeletonize characters from The Simpsons, Star Trek and Justice League.
Consumer Product Connection, which already operates on a world-wide basis in brand management as well as with local agents, will take responsibility for the international development in Europe of the Mexican Skulls, Bad Day, Buddies, and Zombies brands.
