  Universal Signs Hasbro as Global Master Toy Licensee for Jurassic Park 4

Universal Partnerships & Licensing (UP&L) and Hasbro have signed on to market and distribute toy products globally for Jurassic Park 4, the next installment of Steven Spielberg's film series that will be released on June 13, 2014. Jurassic Park has become one of Universal's most beloved franchises and, since 1993, Hasbro has been the master toy partner for each film.

Additionally, Universal will release the classic Jurassic Park film in 3-D on April 5. With his remastering of the epic into a state-of-the-art 3-D format, Spielberg will introduce the three-time Academy Award-winning film to a new generation of moviegoers and allow longtime fans to experience the world he envisioned in a way that was unimaginable during the film's original release.

With the fourth installment, Hasbro has the rights to develop a wide variety of toys including figures, plush, dolls, play sets, vehicles, role play, games, Kre-O-branded building sets, and novelty items. Products will be available on shelves beginning next summer.

  Melanie Beer Departs from Hallmark Cards

Melanie Beer is leaving Hallmark Cards at the end of this month after two years as group licensing director. She will pursue a similar role within the industry closer to her home.

During her two years at Hallmark, Beer has signed numerous new brands, including Hello Kitty/Liberty, Discovery, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. She also renewed classic licenses such as Disney and Warner Bros. In addition, Beer built the UK licensing strategy for Emily Button. Plans are currently underway to replace her.

  WBCP Unveils Product Lineup for the 75th Anniversary of The Wizard of Oz

Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) announces a roster of licensees set to celebrate the 75th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz next year. Master toy partner Jazwares, as well as USAopoly and Mattel, are among the licensing partners that will produce a range of product across multiple categories including toys, collectibles, and games.

Jazwares will unveil a range of 5-inch small fashion dolls, play sets, and role-play accessories in the fall. Mattel will unveil three new Pink Label The Wizard of Oz Barbie dolls as a part of the Barbie Collector line this year. Puppet Heap will have hand and finger puppets, Schylling will offer a jack-in-the-box with a plush Dorothy, and Vermont-based R.J. Wright Dolls will introduce a molded, plush Toto replica. Also available for collectors is a plush bear dressed as The Wicked Witch from Steiff, and high-end dolls from Tonner Doll Co. and Adora Doll.

A themed train-set from Lionel Little Lines will also be available, and Alexander Doll is set to unveil new 12-inch, machine-washable plush dolls for young collectors. Round 2 will have figures, wooden toys, puzzle games, clip-ons, banks, and sound and motion dioramas. USAopoly will have a new The Wizard of Oz Monopoly game, The Wizard of Oz 75th Anniversary Edition of The Game of Life, and The Wizard of Oz 75th Anniversary Edition of Memory Challenge.

Other licensees include Funko, Rubie's Costume Co., Promotional Partners, Darice, Masterpieces, and Ceaco.

  The Licensing Awards 2013 Open for Entries

The Licensing Awards 2013 are now officially open for entries. Entry and nomination forms for all of the awards categories are now available at

The Licensing Awards 2013 categories cover all aspects of the UK licensing industry. The closing date for entering the licensed product awards categories is Friday, May 31. A panel of retail buyers will judge the entries.

Tickets are on sale now, with more than 1,200 industry professionals expected to be in attendance.

  Spin Master Ltd. Signs Exclusive Global Licensing Deal for DreamWorks Dragons

Spin Master Ltd. and DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. have entered into an exclusive licensing relationship in which Spin Master will serve as the worldwide master toy licensee for the DreamWorks Dragons slate of upcoming franchise properties, which includes a TV series and a sequel to How to Train Your Dragon.

Spin Master has previously served as master toy partner for the How to Train Your Dragon feature film, released globally in 2009, and this fall will debut a toy line inspired by last year's debut of Cartoon Network's DreamWorks Dragons: Riders of Berk, which features the original voice cast from the feature film. One of the line's featured items is the Giant Fire Breathing Toothless, which creates blue "fire" and "steam."

The sequel to the original feature film, How to Train Your Dragon 2, is set for release on July 20, 2014.

  Geronimo Stilton Beauty Range to Launch

Atlantyca Entertainment has signed a licensing agreement with Italy-based specialty beauty products manufacturer to create a line of children’s beauty products featuring the Geronimo Stilton brand. personal care products are natural and safe for children.

  Jakks Pacific, Univision to Bring El Chavo to U.S. Toy Aisles

U.S. toymaker Jakks Pacific Inc. has been appointed as the North American master toy licensee by Univision Communications Inc., a media company serving Hispanic America, to manufacture, distribute, and market a line of toys inspired by El Chavo, the comedy series that airs in the U.S. and Spanish-speaking countries worldwide.

The El Chavo product line from Jakks Pacific will include action figures, plush, dolls, role-play products, dress-up items, seasonal toys, tabletop games, and novelty items that celebrate the world of El Chavo including a variety of characters seen in El Chavo Animado, the animated series airing on the Univision Network, Sundays at 4 p.m. ET/PT. The El Chavo product line is expected to launch in the fall. Hits 20 Million UK Users, the digital social world for kids ages 6 to 12, now has 20 million registered users in the UK. In addition, has earned the BAFTA Kids Vote Award for Best Website last November.   E-max Signs for The Smurfs Products

Ink and Biplano have announced a licensing deal with E-max for The Smurfs stickers, sticker albums, trading card games, and trading card game albums for all of Eastern Europe, the Nordic countries, Spain, and Portugal. E-max has also signed for Clay Buddies for these territories and for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, and France. The sequel to the 2011 The Smurfs movie will hit cinemas around the world later this year. E-max will develop ranges based on both the upcoming film and on the Classic Smurfs line.

  Bulldog Licensing Named UK Licensing Agent for Bullseye

Bulldog Licensing will act as UK licensing agent for Bullseye, the darts game show from ITV. The show ran on the ITV Network from 1981 to 1995 and regularly tallied 13 million viewers per episode, with a peak audience of 19.8 million on Boxing Day 1989. Demand led to Bullseye's reappearance as a series in 2006, with new programs hosted by Dave Spikey running on Challenge that brought in the channel's highest ratings of the year and helped it beat Sky1 for the first time in its history. Challenge continues to broadcast Bullseye nightly.

Bulldog seeks to capitalize on the show's retro appeal and popularity with a licensing program across categories such as apparel, board games, and gifting. The official Bullseye Facebook page will be used to help promote product.

  Hasbro Launches Transformers Beast Hunters Brand

This year, Hasbro Inc. heralds a new era for its Transformers brand with the introduction of Beast Hunters, an expansive multi-platform brand experience. The new evolution in the Transformers franchise launched at the American International Toy Fair in New York City.

Now, the Autobots will face-off against the Decepticons and the Predacons. The new dragon-like Predaking character, the leader of the Predacons, is featured in the upcoming season of the Transformers Prime animated series, produced by Hasbro Studios. The series airs on The Hub TV network in the U.S. and is seen by fans in 182 countries.

In addition to a beast-filled season of Transformers Prime, the Predacons Rising DVD will launch in October and a TV movie event will air later in the year on The Hub. The Beast Hunters brand will also include online story and character experiences, digital entertainment and gaming, licensed merchandise, publishing, and toys and action figures.

  Director, Producer, and Line Producer Named for Maya the Bee

Flying Bark Productions' managing director, Jim Ballantine, has announced the director, producer, and line producer for the first-ever animated theatrical release of the international property Maya the Bee.

Alexs Stadermann has been confirmed as director, Barbara Stephen will be the movie's producer and Alexia Gates-Foale will be the line producer for the 3-D stereoscopic production. The trio previously worked together on the TV series, The Woodlies, and the special, feature-length episode, The Woodlies Movie, which were both produced with the assistance of Flying Bark Productions.

  Sanrio Announces New Partnerships for Mr. Men Little Miss in the U.S.

Sanrio Inc., creator of Hello Kitty, has signed new partnerships for Mr. Men Little Miss in the U.S. Acquired last year by Sanrio Global Ltd., parent company of Sanrio Inc., the brand features the family of more than 85 boldly illustrated characters and their personalities.

Loungefly, which has been selected as a global licensee for Mr. Men Little Miss, will produce a complete collection of accessories, including wallets, handbags, backpacks, laptop cases, iPad cases, lunch boxes, socks, and jewelry. Age Group will produce swimwear, rash guards, cover-ups, and board shorts for girls, juniors, and women. FAB will produce stationery, and Franco Mfg will produce bedding, bath, beach, throw, and furniture. High Point Design LLC will produce hosiery, leggings, tights, leg warmers, arm warmers, slipper socks, and mukluks for infants, girls, and women. Komar will produce kids' sleepwear, and Vandor will produce novelty gifts and housewares.

  LIMA Seeks UK Entrants for Licensing Excellence Awards 2013

LIMA UK looks to the licensing industry to submit an entry for the 2013 Annual LIMA International Licensing Excellence Awards.

Kelvyn Gardner, managing director of LIMA UK, expressed his encouragement to UK firms, stating that, "Last year we saw a record number of submissions from the UK, second only to the U.S., which clearly demonstrates that the UK licensing industry is punching above its weight. The licensing industry in the UK is demonstrating growth and excellence, and these awards give companies clout on the global playing field. Plus, it's pretty cool to receive one of these prestigious awards at the ceremony in Las Vegas during the world's biggest licensing event."

There are several categories to choose from and winners will be announced at the LIMA Opening Nights Awards Ceremony, on Tuesday, June 18, at the Licensing International Expo in Las Vegas. The award categories include art; character/toy; brand; corporate brand; film, TV, celebrity, or entertainment; sports; licensed promotion; and retailer.

  Sprout Appoints Big Tent Entertainment to Establish Sprout Preschool Brand

Sprout, the 24-hour preschool TV channel, has announced expansion plans for its consumer products effort by retaining integrated family entertainment company Big Tent Entertainment as its exclusive U.S. licensing agency of record. Big Tent will represent the network to develop a fully-integrated Sprout presence at retail and create an umbrella consumer products program for kids ages 2 to 5 under the Sprout brand name. In addition, Big Tent will help introduce products based on the network’s growing roster of original programs including its newest series, The Chica Show, and its signature bedtime block, The Good Night Show.

  Kid Glove Branches out to Brazil

Kid Glove, a boutique production, distribution, and rights management company launched at MIPCOM 2012, has set up additional operations in São Paulo, Brazil.

Centrally located in the Jardins district of Brazil's largest city, the new office will serve as an international hub for bringing Brazilian producers and animators together and creating partnerships throughout the global entertainment industry.

  The Joester Loria Group Brokers Apparel Deal for The World of Eric Carle

The Joester Loria Group has signed G&W Industries as the new U.S. apparel partner for The World of Eric Carle.

The new apparel collection will use Carle's vibrant artwork to create on-trend collections for newborn, infant, and toddler. Sizes will range from newborn to 4T and will include layettes, playwear, active wear, swimwear, and more. Newborn and infant apparel and accessories consisting of knits, plush, fleece and velour will launch in the fall. Toddler apparel will be added to the collection next year.

The launch of apparel in the U.S. follows the international success of apparel programs in Australia and the UK.

  Babar Range at colette in Paris

Nelvana Enterprises and The Clifford Ross Company have signed for an exclusive collection of Babar menswear from Danish design company Soulland. The collection will be featured at the colette shop in Paris beginning on April 1.

Babar's vintage and retro style will arrive in colette stores through young Danish designer, Silas Alder, CEO of Soulland, who has developed the Babar menswear collection for the spring. Based on Jean de Brunoff's drawings, this collection is comprised of shirts, T-shirts, sweatshirts, and shorts.

Babar celebrated its 80th anniversary in Paris last year at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in the exhibition "Les Histoires de Babar" (The Story of Babar).

  Legendary Pictures Signs Raft of Deals For Pacific Rim Film

Legendary Entertainment has entered into new licensing agreements for the Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures summer film Pacific Rim, directed by Guillermo del Toro. Legendary has secured a list of licensees in all key categories and has released exclusive images of the Jaeger toys on Facebook.

Licensees include the National Entertainment Collectibles Association with Pacific Rim-branded collectible action figures, model kits, prop replicas, posters, puzzles, board games, and apparel worldwide; Jump Games with mobile and tablet games; Yukes Company with downloadable console and PC games worldwide; Cryptozoic Entertainment with trading cards and trading card accessories; Titan Books with novel adaptations; Legendary Comics with licensed graphic novel adaptations; Insight Editions with the Art Of book; and Brown Trout Publishers with calendars in the U.S., Canada, the UK, and Australia. In addition, Rubies Costume Co. will manufacture Pacific Rim Halloween masks, costumes, animatronics, and Halloween décor for the global market, and Sideshow Collectibles will supply higher-end museum-quality replicas and statues from the film worldwide.

  Zodiak Announces Several Little Princess Deals

Zodiak Kids has announced that two Little Princess DVDs will be released. Released by Anchor Bay, the first DVD is Little Princess: I Want To Grow Up. The second DVD, Little Princess: I Love Animals, will be issued on March 25, complete with a Great Easter Egg Hunt double-sided poster.

In a new partnership with Rubies Masquerade, Little Princess will also see new dress-up items added to the range on March 15.

  Silver Dolphin Enters into Play-Doh and Crayola Licensing Deals

Silver Dolphin Books and Hasbro Inc. have entered into a multi-year North American/Latin American licensing agreement to manufacture and market a variety of educationally-based activity books using Hasbro’s Play-Doh brand.

The first books under this license agreement—three Play-Doh Concept Learning Books, two novelty board books, and one jumbo sticker book—will land in stores nationwide in March. Book-Plus Kits will arrive in stores in the fall.

Over the next several years, Silver Dolphin will publish a variety of books that incorporate Play-Doh products. Items to be produced include board books, sticker and activity books, electronic sound books, and novelty books with Play-Doh compound. Silver Dolphin Books has also entered into an agreement with Crayola for a multi-year North American/Latin American licensing partnership. Silver Dolphin's Crayola-branded books will be packed with engaging activities that use Crayola products to provide a fun, educational experience that encourages children to be creative and imaginative.

Silver Dolphin's Crayola books will be available beginning in the fall, with three titles in the Color Workshop series. Additional books will be published in the fall, including two in the Artist Studio series. All of these activity books will be packaged with Crayola products.

  Lorraine Kelly Lends Her Voice to Phineas and Ferb

Disney UK has announced that presenter Lorraine Kelly is to join the list of British talent lending their voices to Phineas and Ferb. The Scottish presenter and journalist joins David Beckham, Jamie Oliver, David Mitchell, and Gary Lineker who have appeared in the BAFTA-nominated and Emmy-award winning comedy.

Last year, Simon Pegg, Lenny Henry, and Jonathan Ross all took up roles in the animation, and Kelly is the first Brit to join the lineup this year.

  ZeptoLab Unveils Expanded Cut the Rope Licensing Program

ZeptoLab, the entertainment and gaming company behind Cut the Rope, has announced new licensing agreements for toys, plush, and novelty products that will make their way to store shelves in the spring and summer.

ZeptoLab debuted Om Nom: Candy Flick, a new augmented reality game that allows fans to interact with Cut the Rope's candy-chomping star Om Nom, at this week's American International Toy Fair. Om Nom: Candy Flick, available on Apple's App Store, is unlocked via a special tag that can be found on a variety of Om Nom plush toys from toy partner Round 5. Once downloaded, fans can bring Om Nom to life by positioning their smartphone or tablet's camera on the tags and watch as he virtually pops out of the tag ready to devour his favorite treat.

Round 5 will be introducing the newest versions of Om Nom through a variety of plush, buildable play sets, and collectible micro figures that will be available at Toys "R" Us stores in the U.S. and Canada in March. The plush toys will all be equipped with augmented reality tags. There will also be a variety of mini plush.

Om Nom's Playground, a line of customizable building sets, will also be introduced. With each set, players can build an obstacle course to roll candy toward Om Nom's mouth. In addition, Nommies, collectible micro figures, will be offered with three-pack blind bags that also include an exclusive digital Cut the Rope level.

Additional licensees to roll out with Cut the Rope toy products for spring and summer include Mega Brands puzzles with a new line featuring Augmented Reality content; Toy Galaxy's novelty line of toy, game, and activity products; Sakar's range of branded ear buds, headphones, cases, and consumer electronics; and Kellytoy with amusement and plush crane toys.

  Sesame Street Ride Coming to South East Asia

Universal Studios Singapore will debut the world's first fully immersive Sesame Street indoor themed-ride on March 1.

The indoor themed-ride, named Sesame Street Spaghetti Space Chase, will feature a science-fiction inspired plot, coupled with signature Sesame Street comedic style and music.

Celebrating the launch of the ride, the park will host a special Sesame Street Carnival from March 1 to 3. New York Street will be transformed into an extension of Sesame Street.

  Atlantyca Entertainment Signs Deal with Merrymakers Inc. for Geronimo Stilton Classic

Atlantyca Entertainment, an Italian trans-media entertainment company, has secured a licensing agreement with California-based specialty plush and merchandise manufacturer MerryMakers Inc. to create a line of plush dolls and toys featuring the Geronimo Stilton book series brand for North America. The deal was completed by Atlantyca's North American licensing agent and Geronimo Stilton production partner Moonscoop.

Beginning this fall, MerryMakers will create a plush line featuring dolls, finger puppets, tins, pencil cases, pencil toppers, wallets, key fobs, and plush backpack clips for sale in bookstores and specialty gift and toy shops.

Launched in 2000 by Italian publisher Edizioni Piemme, Geronimo Stilton is a famous Mouse author turned newspaper editor who writes amusing adventures steeped in suspense and values.

  Sub-Agent Signed for Slugterra

Faresak has been appointed as a sub-agent to manage the Slugterra licensing program in Brazil. Ever since the program was launched in the U.S., there have been at least 10 airings of the show per week and an increase in ratings. Last September, was launched. In addition, the first iOS mobile game for Slugterra became available in the U.S. and Canada in December.

In the U.S. market, the line of collectible slugs and blasters with transforming darts from Jakks Pacific has seen success on the retail shelves. Shout Factory is releasing Slugterra Return of the Shane Gang, which is the first in a series of DVDs that will arrive on the market this year.

The series will be available shortly in Brazil through Disney XD, but licensing opportunities are already available through Faresak.

  So So Happy Signs with Rubie's for Costumes, Role Play

Art Impressions, owner of the lifestyle brand So So Happy, has teamed up with Rubie's Costume Company Inc., a worldwide supplier of licensed Halloween costumes and accessories.

The So So Happy collection, slated for release this fall, includes a range of costumes and role-play outfits inspired by the brand’s characters. Among the role-play accessories are brightly colored mix-and-match leggings, tutus, and headpieces.

  Toy of the Year Awards Results

The 13th annual Toy of the Year (TOTY) Awards and Toy Industry Hall of Fame induction ceremony were held last week, kicking off the 110th American International Toy Fair.

A Toy Industry Association (TIA)-administered event in support of the Toy Industry Foundation (TIF), the Oscars of the toy industry took place at the Plaza Hotel. Throughout the evening, TOTY Awards were presented across 12 toy categories, including e-connected, innovative, educational, and outdoor.

In addition, the overall Toy of the Year award was presented to Lego Friends (The Lego Group), while LeapPad2 (LeapFrog Enterprises Inc.) received the inaugural People's Choice award. Recognizing an outstanding toy developed for boys of any age, the Boy Toy of the Year was presented to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shellraiser (Playmates Toys).

Interspersed with the presentation of the TOTY Awards were two inductions into the Toy Industry Hall of Fame: Judith (Judy) Ellis, chair of the Toy Design Department at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and the late Russell (Russ) Berrie, founder of Russ Berrie Inc. The new inductees join a distinguished roster of 59 other luminaries who have been inducted into the Hall since its establishment in 1985.

   Creative Development Manager

Penguin Children's is offering the role of Creative Development Manager. This is a unique opportunity to help shape Penguin as a new type of publisher.

Reporting to the Art Director for Penguin Children's, you will be responsible for the creative development and roll-out of licensing brands and merchandise, based on the overall brand strategy set by the Head of Licensing and Consumer Products. You will manage external consultants such as creative agencies and style guide designers to create, refresh and update the brands and merchandise as well as developing new lines. You will have shared responsibility for the creative budget and manage the creative quality control, handling approvals and product strategy meetings with all internal and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate will come from a design and illustration background, with a good level of experience in a licensing creative development role and proven knowledge of design in this area, with excellent software skills including Adobe CS. You will have good relationship skills and be confident in dealing with people. You will have a natural affinity for brand development, global trend spotting and seizing opportunities with a commercial, creative eye. You will have a strong and active interest in media and entertainment brands, pop culture and an aptitude for and interest in digital storytelling formats and new technology.Experience within a fashion environment preferred but not essential.
