  Nerd Corps Begins Toy, Merchandise Rollout for Slugterra

Nerd Corps Entertainment has begun a global toy and merchandise rollout this month for Slugterra. Slugterra is hitting retail shelves this month in the U.S., kicking off with a line of collectible slugs and blasters with transforming darts from Jakks Pacific. To coincide with the toy launch, Shout Factory is releasing Slugterra: Return of the Shane Gang, the first in a series of DVDs coming out this year. In addition, T-shirts from Hybrid Apparel and sleepwear from Mad Dog Concepts will release in the third quarter of this year. Nerd Corps' interactive team entered the App Store for the first time in December with the Slug it Out! mobile game for iDevices. Nerd Corps will be launching new modes and in-app purchases to coincide with the toy and DVD launch this spring.

Globally, the series continues to roll out on Disney XD on pay TV, and free TV launches will begin in the third and fourth quarters and continue through next year. New deals include Noga (Israel), MBC (Middle East), and Switchover Media/K2 (Italy).

Character Licensing and Marketing (South Africa) and Brand Is Real (Israel) are the newest agents signed on for licensing. Additionally, Beyond Home Entertainment has acquired the home video rights to the series in Australia and New Zealand, while Slugterra's licensing agent CPL is currently closing deals for back-to-school items, stickers, albums, and trading cards in Latin America.

  MGA, Nickelodeon Partner for Lalaloopsy Animated Series

MGA Entertainment and Nickelodeon have partnered to launch 52 episodes of the animated preschool series Lalaloopsy, premiering in the spring on Nickelodeon. Based on the Lalaloopsy line, the half-hour series features the original eight Lalaloopsy characters, including Crumbs Sugar Cookie, Mittens Fluff 'n Stuff, Bea Spells-a-Lot, Pillow Featherbed, Jewel Sparkles, Peanut Big Top, Spot Splatter Splash, and Dot Starlight. The Lalaloopsy television series is co-produced by MGA Entertainment and Moonscoop Productions.

  Lawless Signs with YOTTOY for The Little Prince Products

Lawless Entertainment has concluded a deal with Yottoy Productions on behalf of The Little Prince. Yottoy will utilize art from The Little Prince to develop soft toys in all sizes including accessorized toys, poseable toys, and dress-up toys to be sold in the U.S. and Canada. The Little Prince merchandise will be sold in department stores, toy and gift stores, children's boutiques, specialty stores, bookstores, select big box retailers, catalogs, museums, and online retailers.

  Puffin to Become Key Angry Birds Publisher

Puffin has signed a three-year publishing deal with Rovio Entertainment for the Angry Birds franchise. The deal covers global English language rights (excluding North America) and includes story, activity, official guide, and sticker books.

The range will launch in July with four titles: The Official Sticker Book, Pig & Mix Puzzle Book, Fowl Play Sticker Activity, and The Mystery of the Green Bird story book. Puffin will be working closely with the Rovio team to tie-in the publishing products with the game development. More books will reach shelves throughout this year and beyond.

  Warner Bros. Consumer Products Partners with Wonder Forge for Justice League Games

Wonder Forge Inc. has partnered with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC Entertainment, to debut a new lineup of Justice League games. Each tabletop game will feature favorite DC Comics characters such as Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, and The Flash. The games are designed for kids ages 8 and up and will launch this fall at Target.

Kids can play as a hero or a villain with the Justice League Face-Off Dice Game. Roll the special hero/villain dice in the sculpted dice cup that feature both Batman and The Joker. Players push their luck as they bluff their opponents with villains or keep rolling to try for more hero points.

  Jim Henson Co. Announces Third Season of Dinosaur Train

The Jim Henson Co. has announced the production of a third season of Dinosaur Train. The new season will premiere this fall in the U.S. on PBS Kids. The third season will consist of 13 CGI-animated half-hour episodes. Dinosaur Train currently airs in more than 175 countries across the globe.

  Zodiak Kids, Studio Licensing Sign Canadian Partners for Tickety Toc

Zodiak Kids and Studio Licensing have signed a series of new deals for Tickey Toc in Canada. Consumer products will be introduced to the mass market in the summer. NTD Apparel (active and sports aparrel), Black & White Merchandising (footwear), Danawares (puzzles, games, arts and crafts, stationery, and placemats), Imagine Publications (activity books, card games, and flash cards), and Daytime Enterprises (costumes) join North American master toy partner Just Play LLC. In addition, the first home entertainment release will be launched by Anchor Bay Entertainment in the fall.

  kaboom! Entertainment Gains Home Entertainment Rights for Pac-Man Revival

41 Entertainment has appointed Phase 4 Films and its kids division, kaboom! Entertainment, to handle home entertainment rights for the Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures property in North America. The 26 x 22 minute TV series is slated to begin broadcast in the fall.

Phase 4 Films will launch a range of DVD and Blu-ray discs as well as handle electronic sell-through digital rights for Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures in the U.S. and Canada.

  Licensing Awards' Ian Hyder Set for London Marathon

Ian Hyder, joint managing director of Max Publishing and The Licensing Awards, is set to help raise money for charity later this year by participating in the London Marathon.

Hyder will take on the 26-mile journey through the capital on Sunday, April 21, with all money raised going toward the licensing industry's own charity, The Light Fund, and supporting The Children's Trust Hospital.   Monster Jam Expands Toy Category Retail Placement with Signing of New Licensees

Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam has signed multiple new licensees including two new toy partners. Ridemakerz has partnered with Monster Jam to bring kids a new way to build, create, and play with their favorite Monster Jam trucks. Ridemakerz customizable products inspire self-expression and creativity through the creation of one-of-a-kind toy cars and trucks. A line of interlocking Monster Jam Xtreme Customz construction vehicles will be available at retail in the fall.

Revell Inc. has a 1:25-scale model kit of one of the world's most famous Monster Jam trucks, Grave Digger. The Grave Digger Snap-Tite Model Kit features authentic graphic decals and replica plastic parts that snap together for easy assembly. The Grave Digger Snap-Tite Model Kit is available at hobby and chain retailers nationwide and will give Monster Jam fans and hobbyists the opportunity to replicate the creation of the unique Grave Digger Monster Jam truck design.

In addition, Rico Industries/Tag Express' line of Monster Jam novelty and souvenir products are currently available at Walmart. Sky High will launch Monster Jam back to school products this summer, and CSS Industries will introduce Monster Jam Valentines and Easter products next year.

  Saban Brands Celebrates Power Rangers' 20th Anniversary

Saban Brands' new animated preschool series inspired by the Paul Frank family of characters, Julius Jr., will air on Nick Jr. in the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand this year.

Another new animated series, Digimon Fusion, will air on Nickelodeon this year as well. Digimon Fusion is the sixth installment of the Digimon franchise, which Saban Brands re-acquired last year.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Power Rangers, Saban Brands and its licensing partners showcased an assortment of Power Rangers-inspired toys during the American International Toy Fair in New York. New Power Rangers Megaforce products were on display for the all-new season now airing on Nickelodeon, as well as some items inspired by the original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers series. All products are expected to hit shelves throughout the year.

  Outfit7 Partners with Paper House Productions for Talking Friends Products

Outfit7, the global entertainment company behind the Talking Friends apps, recently announced a partnership with Paper House Productions for a full collection of regular and 3-D stickers, magnets, and wall décor. This partnership will give fans the ability to interact with the animated characters from the apps, including Talking Tom and Talking Ben. Paper House Productions debuted the comprehensive product assortment at American International Toy Fair. Paper House Productions is the global manufacturer/distributor of photo real stickers, stationery, scrapbooking products, magnets, journals, and peel-and-stick removable wall décor. Global brand licensing agency Beanstalk brokered the deal.

  Sony Appoints Game of 2 Halves for the PlayStation Brand

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has confirmed the appointment of Game of 2 Halves as its licensing agent for the UK and Eire, to expand merchandise licensing of the PlayStation brand and games brands published by SCEE.

Licensing of the SCEE brands, including Little Big Planet, Invizimals, Ratchet & Clank, Killzone, Eye Pet, Uncharted, and Buzz, began three years ago. Game of 2 Halves will be offering more merchandise licensees the opportunity to join the growing licensing program.

  The NBA Partners with Macy's, Sean John for Entertainment Series and Events

The National Basketball Association (NBA), Sean John, and Macy's have signed a new multiyear agreement that features a partnership of the Entertainment Series at NBA All-Star and includes upcoming NBA-themed events at Macy's stores nationwide that will highlight signature styles from Sean John.

The Entertainment Series presented by Sean John at Macy's will be broadcast live and showcase musical performances during State Farm All-Star Saturday Night, pre-game introductions, and halftime at this year's NBA All-Star Game. National coverage will begin at 8 p.m. EST from the Toyota Center on Saturday, February 16 and 8 p.m. EST on Sunday, February 17. It will also air live on TNT, ESPN Radio, and in more than 200 countries in more than 40 languages.

Additionally, Sean John and Macy's will host a series of live NBA-themed experiences at Macy's stores. Fans will have the opportunity to meet and interact with NBA players and legends as Sean John presents the latest styles. Throughout this partnership, Sean John and Macy's will receive visibility across broadcast, digital, and social media channels.

  Kidscreen Award Winners Announced

The winners of the 2013 Kidscreen Awards have been announced. The annual awards were presented by Samantha Bee of The Daily Show during the Kidscreen summit in New York. Recipients of the top prizes included Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Yo Gabba Gabba, and Dinosaur Train, as well as The Amazing World of Gumball, Wild Kratts, and The Jungle Bunch. Cartoon Network received the Channel of the Year award.

  Millimages' Mouk Continues Tour De Force

European production and distribution company Millimages has added new licensing agents to handle rights for its preschool property Mouk. Following European appointments last year, Millimages has now partnered with agents from the UK, Germany, and Oceania. The license is managed and held in the UK by LMI since December. Euro Lizenzen will represent the property in German-speaking Europe, and a deal is being finalized with Wild Pumpkin for Australia and New Zealand.

Mouk currently airs on ABC Australia, France 5, and Disney Channels in France, the UK, Scandinavia, Spain, Italy, Benelux, Eastern Europe, Japan, and the Middle East. In addition, Mouk will soon air on KiKA Germany, Disney Korea, ERT Estonia, RTV Slovenia, and LTV Latvia.

Based on the work of Marc Boutavant and directed by François Narboux, the TV series revolves around Mouk and his buddy Chavapa, two globetrotters who explore the world on their bicycles. From Ouagadougou to New York, Australia, Madagascar, and Greece, the two buddies discover the world and its inhabitants.

Millimages holds all international TV and licensing and merchandising rights to the property.

  Betty Boop Leads Fashion Trends in Japan

Trend forecaster WGSN has identified Betty Boop's trendy fashion presence in Japan as the new inspiration. WGSN reported this week that vintage stores are re-stocking Betty Boop paraphernalia as retro-printed sweat tops and bags are seen on vintage-lovers on the streets of Tokyo. The influence is spreading with Gerlan Jeans and commercial brands such as Dazzlin and LDS releasing T-shirts and sweats for autumn/winter 2012/13.

  DHX Media Secures New Licensing Deals

DHX Media, through its licensing arm Copyright Promotions Licensing Group (CPLG), has signed several merchandising deals across its slate of kids' properties.

Caillou will see a new wave of branded products released this year, including character costumes from Daytime Enterprises, while long-time partner Editions Gladius International Inc. is releasing Caillou-themed games. In the U.S., DHX Media has renewed an agreement with Buy Seasons to produce birthday party supplies, and has also signed Genera Mobile Solutions SA to create a 3-D talking Caillou app including in-app mini-games.

DHX Media's brand Busytown Mysteries has announced its promotional lineup for this year, including the fourth year of the program with the American Automobile Association (AAA) to promote car seat safety, while Wendy's is producing an under-3 program, featuring Richard Scarry's Busytown Mysteries board books.

CPLG and American Greetings Properties, the intellectual property and outbound licensing division of American Greetings Corporation, has secured multiple deals for represented properties. In Canada, the Strawberry Shortcake brand is now available in an outerwear range produced by Vetements Adorable Junior Garments. Editions Gladius signed on for camp chairs, balls, and lunch boxes featuring the character and her friends, and Johnson & Johnson renews for a second term of Strawberry Shortcake toiletries. In addition, CPLG has inked a deal with Calego, licensing the evergreen Care Bears brand for backpacks, and Jelli Fish Kids for its range of kids' sleepwear.

  Hoho Appoints Haven for Cloudbabies

Hoho Rights has appointed Haven Licensing as the licensing agent for its CBeebies series Cloudbabies in Australia and New Zealand.

Hoho Rights has also signed a home entertainment deal with ABC Commercial in the wake of the recent broadcast acquisition by ABC TV and the January launch of Cloudbabies on ABC4Kids.

The cloud-bouncing toddlers are also set to premiere in New Zealand on Kidzone24 following the latest acquisition by TVNZ.

  Nickelodeon Australia and The Wiggles' Sam Create New Series

Nickelodeon Australia has commissioned a new preschool series for its Nick Jr. channel in collaboration with ex-Wiggles star Sam Moran. The show, Play Along with Sam, is to be produced in-house by Nick Jr. and will feature a hosted weekday music morning block showcasing Sam's musical talents in an educational and curriculum-based format.

  Bulldog Signs with Aurora for Garfield Plush

UK representative for the Garfield brand Bulldog Licensing has announced that Paws Inc., the owners of the Garfield property, has agreed to a new deal with Aurora World that will see production of a new range featuring the corpulent cat.

The new agreement with Aurora World will add to Garfield's presence in UK retail. Other categories are also represented and licensees include Somerbond for men's nightwear and underwear; J Fox for bags, belts, wallets, hankies, and toiletries; Blues Clothing, Brand Alliance, and Silverknit for apparel; Sert MST for pet products; for online greetings cards; and Smiffys for dress up.
