eOne Signs New Partners for PJ Masks in the U.S. and Canada

Entertainment One (eOne) appointed new partners for PJ Masks products across a range of toy and seasonal categories. The latest introductions will begin to roll out at retail in April. Just Play continues its role as master toy licensee for the brand in the U.S. and Canada, with new and expanding lines that will release this year.
The roster of licensees in the U.S. will include Little Kids for bubble toys, Playhut for play tents, Swimways for water toys, and What Kids Want for novelty seasonal toys. New licensees for the U.S. and Canadian markets include First Act for musical instruments, Tech 4 Kids for novelty lighting products, and Jazwares and LeapFrog for consumer electronics.
PJ Masks premiered in the U.S. in September 2015. Last year, PJ Masks was one of Disney Junior's top series, reaching 64 million total viewers across the U.S. The series also currently reaches 29 million viewers across 10 markets throughout EMEA on Disney Junior.

PJ Masks is produced by eOne and Frog Box, in collaboration with French animation studio TeamTO, along with Disney Junior and France 5. The series is based on French author Romuald Racioppo’s picture book series Les Pyjamasques.

Fashion and Hairstylist Icon to Launch Products for Global Mass Marketer

All-American Licensing has been signed to exclusively represent hairstylist, Jose Eber in connection with the strategic development of hair care, fashion and beauty merchandise.  With an emphasis on problem-solving products, the cornerstone of the program will be a collection of “Jose Eber” hair care / brushes, skin care products and related accessories. A secondary phase will consist of professional salon merchandise ranging from hair care to tools to furniture.

Moose Toys, Illumination, Universal Brand Development Partner for Despicable Me Collectibles Line

Moose Toys, Illumination, and Universal Brand Development partnered to launch Mineez, a new line of collectibles featuring characters from Despicable Me. The range will debut this summer alongside the theatrical release of Despicable Me 3. Mineez marks the first collectible line for the franchise.
 
Mineez will include characters from the new film, previous movies, and the franchise’s short-form content, as well as never-before-seen characters. The range features micro collectible figure packs, play sets, backpack hangers, novelty collectibles, and plush.

MTN to Be Arsenal’s Official Mobile Telecommunications Network Partner in Nigeria

Arsenal Football Club has entered into a partnership with MTN, Nigeria’s largest mobile network operator.  MTN will become Arsenal’s Official Mobile Telecommunications Network partner in Nigeria.
 
Arsenal and MTN announced details of the partnership at a press conference in Nigeria on 4 February, with club legend, Kanu in attendance.
 
The partnership will see MTN offer a number of exclusive Arsenal related benefits to the club’s large following in Nigeria as well as to MTN’s vast subscriber base.  Starting today, MTN will offer its customers access to a range of match and player exclusive content including match highlights, club news, interviews and club imagery via MTN Play.
 
Through Arsenal’s digital platforms, MTN will also be able to engage directly with supporters in Nigeria.  Promotional and marketing activities featuring Arsenal first-team players and club legends will further enhance MTN’s engagement with Arsenal supporters.  Arsenal will also send specialist coaches to undertake annual coaching clinics as part of MTN’s marketing activities in Nigeria.
 
Arsenal has fantastic support in Nigeria, with the club’s largest website traffic outside the UK coming from the country.  In addition to this, the club’s second highest number of digital members and third largest Twitter following comes from Nigeria.

The Alpha Group U.S. to Launch Regal Academy Toy Line

Rainbow Group’s Regal Academy will return to Nickelodeon, where it will continue to air new episodes from season one on Saturday mornings. Master toy partner The Alpha Group will release a full line of fashion dolls and play sets based on Regal Academy this fall. The line is designed for kids ages 5 and up and will debut at the North American International Toy Fair later this month. 
 
Regal Academy follows Rose, the granddaughter of Cinderella, as she enters the Regal Academy and embarks on magical adventures with her classmates, who also have a fairytale heritage and belong to the school’s founding families. The series debuted on Nickelodeon last summer.

Endemol Shine Group Partners with Case Licenses to Launch MasterChef Kitchenware Range

Endemol Shine Group,  announced that it has partnered with Case Licenses, to manufacture and distribute a European-wide range of comprehensive MasterChef kitchenware.
 
The range has been developed with the know-how of industry experts and MasterChef talent, to empower cooks of any level to improve their skills and achieve their culinary ambitions. The agreement with Case Licenses will see the exclusive range of branded MasterChef kitchenware distributed into multiple territories throughout 2017 and 2018 including UK & Ireland, France, Greece, Czech Republic and Holland. The line features Teflon coated cookware, kitchen knives, wooden accessories, kitchen utensils, oven to tableware and textiles.

Marvel Unveils Heroes Come In All Sizes Retail Campaign

Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media (DCPI) will debut the new retail campaign Marvel Heroes Come in All Sizes this spring. The campaign celebrates Marvel Super Heroes and everyday heroes to teach that the best way to measure a Super Hero is by the size of their heart.
 
New Marvel products will highlight this theme and will be available in categories including home entertainment, television, publishing, and digital content. At retail, Marvel Heroes Come in All Sizes will follow the success of the fall campaign, Marvel Super Hero Spectacular, with new product launches and in-store statements, including Hasbro for six-inch Marvel Legends figures; Funko for larger-scale collectible characters; Lego for updated Mighty Micros; Jakks Pacific for Tsum Tsum characters; Jada Toys for die-cast figures; and Schleich for a collectible figure lineup.
 
Retail partners will feature marketing campaigns, which include branded end caps at Walmart and Target; Toys “R” Us will debut a front-of-store “What’s Hot” feature; Kohl’s will promote Marvel softlines and toys; and Amazon will offer marketing support for DVDs, books, and licensed product.
 
Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media will support the campaign with a series of new brand-driven marketing spots and influencer campaigns.  There will also be a stop-motion advertainment spot that will use Hasbro action figures, which will be released in February.

NYBG Announces Collaboration with Home Luxury Retailer Frontgate

A new partnership between The New York Botanical Garden and luxury retailer Frontgate means that hundreds of reprints from the Rare Book and Folio Collection in the Botanical Garden’s LuEsther T. Mertz Library are available for purchase framed and ready for placement on a wall.
 
The archival prints from vintage botanical illustrations and engravings are diverse in their representation of flora and include everything from Japanese roses, orchids, hibiscus and mangroves, tropical palms and seaweed; even prints of parrots and macaws are available for collecting. Prints are available in various configurations, as a single framed print or sets of two, three, four, and five in number.
 
“We are thrilled to partner with Frontage on this stunning collection of artwork for the home,” said Meredith Counts, Director of Licensing and Product Development at NYBG. “The rare and sumptuous works featured in this collection represent the height of luxury in the 18th- and 19th-centuries, when the art of botanical illustration was at its peak. Discovery Consumer Products Names Ricky Li as VP of Lifestyle and Global Retail

Discovery Consumer Products named Ricky Li as vice president, global lifestyle and retail. In this role, Li will be responsible for Discovery’s growth in the global lifestyle brands market. He will also oversee key fashion, lifestyle, and softlines strategies across apparel, accessories, footwear, and home categories. He will report to Leigh Anne Brodsky, executive vice president, Discovery Global Enterprises.
 
Li joins Discovery Communications from Aeropostale, where he spent the past six years leading the company’s global business development and international expansion in Asia, Middle East, South America, Europe, and North America.

Geronimo Stilton Gets Flashy

Atlantyca Entertainment’s licensing division has signed with Italy’s most prominent consumer-electronics production company, Maikii, srl. to produce Geronimo Stilton animated character 3D flash drives under Maikii’s Tribe brand line. Tribe is the retail brand of Maikii, dedicated to the production and distribution of licensed merchandise transforming USB drives, power banks, and a wide range of tech accessories into popular film, comic book, and cartoon characters.

Sesame Street Announces Global Multimedia Kindness Campaign

This year, Sesame Workshop will launch Spread Kindness, #ShareTheLaughter, a year-long global multimedia campaign. During the campaign, kids will find kindness-themed episodes on the 47th season of Sesame Street on HBO and PBS KIDS, as well as new and classic videos and songs that will stream on social media channels and celebrate kindness. This August, Elmo will ask fans to spread kindness through laughter with his #ShareTheLaughter tell-a-joke challenge.
 
Throughout the campaign, kids at home will learn with Elmo what kindness means and ways that they can spread it. Themes will include: kindness is being a friend; kindness is giving, speaking, and doing; and kindness is being thankful.

Popeye Campaign for Dijon

Popeye closed out 2016 in spectacular fashion in Chile with a major Christmas campaign for retailer Dijon.    
 
King Features’ classic characters Popeye and Olive Oyl enticed and entertained shoppers with a commercial as well as store windows, POP, in-store displays, shopping bags and giftwrap in 64 Dijon stores nationwide. Extending the experience was a special limited-edition range of apparel, accessories, underwear and sleepwear for kids and adults.
 
Dijon is a retail department store brand of Com. Minorista Ronitex and the deal was brokered by Doce, King Features’ agent in Chile.

9 Story Media Group Secures a Raft of Digital Sales for Animated Shorts Series

9 Story Media secured deals with digital platforms for the animated shorts series Sweet Tweets. Produced by YetiLABS, a division of Kelowna-based animation studio Yeti Farm Creative, the series targets toddlers and preschoolers and features nursery rhymes and original songs.
 
Sweet Tweets premiered on YouTube as a digital-first property and has recently been picked up by several digital platforms, including Toon Goggles (the U.S.), Curious World (international), Homer (international), and Future Today (international). The series has been previously licensed to Knowledge Network (Canada) and BBC Canada.
 
Sweet Tweets follows Momma Tweet, Poppa Sweet, and their family full of Tweetle Bums, to a whimsical world filled with stories and songs.

ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland and Scripps Networks Interactive in Multi-Year Cooperation

German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland GmbH and leading U.S. developer of lifestyle content Scripps Networks Interactive have announced an extensive, multi-year license agreement.
 
This strategic cooperation will be launched in spring 2017 with branded blocks of Scripps Networks' popular television brands HGTV, DIY Network, Food Network and Travel Channel on ProSiebenSat.1 TV Deutschland channels. The volume deal boasts more than 1,200 hours of high-quality lifestyle and factual entertainment programming to premiere on German television. In addition to broadcasting rights, the cooperation includes extensive online rights.

The Jim Henson Co. Names Sarah Maizes as VP of Children’s Entertainment

The Jim Henson Co. named Sarah Maizes as vice president of children's entertainment. The announcement was made by Halle Stanford, the company’s executive vice president of children's entertainment, to whom she will report. Maizes is a 20-year veteran in the children’s entertainment and publishing industry.
 
In her newly created role, Maizes will focus on the development and production of all preschool and children’s programming for TV, home entertainment, and digital media in animated and live-action formats. Maizes most recently served as a production executive for The Jim Henson Co.’s new preschool series Dot., which currently airs on Sprout.
 
Maizes has written award-winning books for both kids and parents including On My Way to the Bath and On My Way to Bed. She has also written non-fiction humor books and is a parenting and lifestyle contributor to Today.com.

Shopkins Season 7 Hits Shelves

The release of the party-themed Season 7 of Shopkins was celebrated at Toys R Us with a special International Shopkins Day – attended by Toys and Me vlogger Tiana.
 
The new figures look to boost the brand’s sales figures even further – revenue went over $125million in 2016 in the UK alone with strong growth forecast across multiple categories through 2017.

Stan, Turner Partner to Release Cartoon Network Content in Australia

Stan, an Australian video-on-demand provider, partnered with Turner Asia Pacific to stream content from Cartoon Network. Cartoon Network is a popular kids channel in the Asia-Pacific region, and Stan subscribers will now have access to its range of series.

The premiere of the eighth and final season of Regular Show will air exclusively in Australia this April on Stan. New seasons of Adventure Time and The Powerpuff Girls will premiere at the same time as they air on Cartoon Network.

The partnership also provides Stan with the exclusive subscription video on demand (SVOD) rights to other Cartoon Network animated series, including Adventure Time, Ben 10, The Powerpuff Girls, We Bare Bears, and Steven Universe.

Suncrest Partners with Santoro for Gorjuss Ragdolls

Suncrest has signed a new licensing deal with Santoro, the creators of the world of Gorjuss.  
 
Suncrest are responsible for bringing to market a new category for the Gorjuss brand which continues to evolve and the introduction of a collection of ragdolls lends itself perfectly to the existing product portfolio.  Initially there will be three dolls in the range.

L’Amy America, Condé Nast Announce a Multi-Year License Agreement

L’Amy America, part of International Luxury Group, entered into a multi-year license agreement with Condé Nast to market and distribute sunglasses and ophthalmic frames for the Glamour brand under the name Glamour Editor’s Pick.
 
The new Glamour Editor’s Pick sunglass and ophthalmic collections will preview at Vision Expo West 2017, and will feature displays, lifestyle imagery, and bold product packaging.

WIT Announces 2017 Wonder Women Awards Finalists

Women in Toys, Licensing and Entertainment (WIT) will honor a dozen outstanding female business leaders and more than 50 remarkable finalists at the 13th Annual Wonder Women Awards Gala, held during the New York International Toy Fair. Winners will be announced on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at this year’s Gala, themed Changemakers: Playing it Forward, at Pier 60.
 
With support from Tech4Kids, WIT will also present its inaugural Elise Lachowyn Mentorship Award to Mary Couzin, the Founder and CEO of the Chicago Toy & Game Group (ChiTAG). Elise Lachowyn was a beloved WIT member who touched the lives of many in the industry as a mentor, business partner and friend. WIT honors Couzin for her immersive and impactful work as a mentor and passionate advocate for toy and game inventors around the world.
 
WIT will also honor former Chairman and CEO of Mattel, Jill Barad, with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Academy Award®-winning actor and advocate Geena Davis, co-founder and chair of the Bentonville Film Festival and founder of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, with the 2017 Gamechanger Award.

Shout! Factory, DHX Media Enter Content Distribution Deal For Home Entertainment

Shout! Factory and DHX Media partnered to bring Gwen Stefani’s animated series Kuu Kuu Harajuku to the home entertainment marketplace in North America.
 
The multi-year partnership provides Shout! Factory with exclusive home-entertainment distribution rights (DVD and Blu-ray) in the U.S. and Canada for all 26 episodes of Kuu Kuu Harajuku.  Rollout will be made through Shout’s kids & family imprint, Shout! Factory Kids.
 
Kuu Kuu Harajuku follows the adventures of the band HJ5 through their world of music, fashion, and style. The inspiration for this popular animated series came from Stefani, who wanted to create an animated series for girls that encourages and celebrates creative self-expression, imagination, and individuality. The series is inspired by the fashion and though of the Harajuku district.  Kuu Kuu Harajuku currently airs on Nickelodeon in the U.S. and on Family Channel in Canada.

Planeta Junior Boards m4e’s The Beatrix Girls

Following the announcement that Studio 100 N.V. acquires a majority interest in the German brand management and media company m4e AG, Planeta Junior is teaming up with m4e to co-produce and distribute “The Beatrix Girls”. 

The new TV show is co-produced by m4e with POPmedia Brands’ Sherry Gunther Shugerman. m4e’s strategic partner Planeta Junior is entering this project at development stage, the production is set to start this year. The 52 x 11’ hybrid sitcom show is based on the multimedia brand “The Beatrix Girls” and its toy line of collectible pop-star dolls driven by original music, with over 23 million views on its YouTube video and was developed by Sherry Gunther Shugerman.

Nelvana Expands Shopkins Brand

Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana Enterprises extended the reach of its fast-growing Shopkins licensing program to fans in Russia, the Middle East, and Scandinavia through a range of new partnerships.

Nelvana will introduce Shopkins merchandise to Russian consumers via Megalicense International, a recent sub-agent for the brand in Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Ukraine, and the Baltic nations of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. New licensees for Russia include AST Origami for board games and arts and crafts; AST Publishing for magazines; Perfetti for chocolate balls; Tarna Rosman for plush, party goods, art and crafts, and stationery; and Unitoys for card games.

In the Middle East, Nelvana, in partnership with Moose Toys, appointed 20too Licensing as the agent for Shopkins, and toys are distributed in the region near Rochas. New licensees introducing product this spring include Developing Dreamz for stationery; MEI for events and meet and greets; Sapphire for confectionery and travel accessories; and Vibrant Global for personal care, home textiles, and fashion accessories.

Nelvana will also expand the Shopkins brand to Scandinavia through its newly appointed agent, Alicom. In addition, Ravensburger, which already produces Shopkins product for France, Italy, and Spain, will extend its coverage area to include Scandinavia. Proxy will continue as Nelvana’s toy distributor in Scandinavia.

In addition, Nelvana agent Planeta Junior, which represents Shopkins in Turkey, secured licensing deals for the property with Gizzy for puzzles and Mad Event for meet and greets.

The New York Botanical Garden, Frontgate Partner for Homewares Art Collection

The New York Botanical Garden and Frontgate partnered to create reprints from
the Rare Book and Folio Collection in the Botanical Garden’s LuEsther T. Mertz Library. The prints feature Japanese roses, orchids, hibiscus, mangroves, tropical palms, and seaweed, as well as parrots and macaws. Prints are available in different assortments, including a single framed print or sets of two, three, four, and five.
 
Each print was chosen from the Library’s Rare Book and Folio Collection of more than 18,000 pieces. A portion of every purchase supports The New York Botanical Garden’s work in plant research, conservation, horticulture, and education.

Fanatics’ Cole Gahagan to Deliver Keynote Address at Licensing Expo 2017

Cole Gahagan, chief commercial officer of Fanatics Inc., will deliver the opening keynote address at Licensing Expo 2017. The keynote session takes place on Tuesday, May 23 from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m., and marks the start of Licensing Expo at Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Fanatics has an e-commerce business and operates brick-and-mortar locations for the National Basketball Association (NBA), track-side stores for NASCAR, and in-stadium shops at sports venues across the country. Gahagan is a career sports management executive with experience leading large-scale businesses and strategic growth for a host of organizations.

Crayola Is Seeking an Experienced Manager, Outbound Licensing. Located at Crayola Corporate HQ, Easton, PA

The ideal candidate will possess experience within either Toy AND/OR Publishing licensing experience.
 
GENERAL SUMMARY: Creates strategic direction for active licensee base and negotiates new partnerships within assigned categories to achieve growth objectives.   Directs tactical execution of licensed product lines from concept/line plan through commercialization.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage existing licensees in assigned categories: 
    • Evaluate licensee’s quarterly marketing, retail and financial forecasts to ensure licensees on are track to meet established contractual obligations, royalty payments and forecast goals.
    • Organize and run licensee orientations, business reviews, semiannual/quarterly line reviews, and brain storm sessions.
    • Address specific licensee performance issues
    • Negotiate renewals on a timely basis
    • Provides input for annual departmental budget and plan
  • Ensure licensees develop seasonal lines in time for internal seasonal review and develop documents and presentations to communicate licensee’s initiatives to internal Crayola departments
    • Set trend direction and make recommendations for new product entry
    • Direct category research and product concept testing as needed with the consumer insights team
    • Work with creative and product development on design and creative direction for licensed product and packaging
    • Responsible for managing licensee press releases, cross marketing and promotions
    • Ensure adherence to internal approval process (i.e. safety, quality, financial, legal, content, creative, consumer activation, consumer affairs etc.) and assist in resolving issues.
  • Negotiate new licensed strategic partnerships for assigned segments in conjunction with established category strategies
    • Research, secure and develop new licensees building upon the success of existing segments in order to achieve predictable, profitable and sustainable growth
    • Negotiate deal terms including: grant of rights, royalty rates, guarantees, projections and business plans
REQUIREMENTS:
  • 7 years’ experience in licensing or consumer marketing work for a CPG company.
  • Bachelors’ degree preferred

I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.
 
I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
