Mattel, Epic Records Partner for Multi-Tiered Barbie Campaign

Inspired by the Barbie brand tagline, “With Barbie, Anything is Possible,” Mattel has debuted a new brand anthem for the doll this year. Serving as a positive, empowering beacon for girls worldwide, the high-energy, catchy pop song will be voiced by all-girl group Fifth Harmony. The partnership with Epic Records/SYCO recording artists Fifth Harmony includes the global debut of the lyric music video on, followed by the launch of a music video and a Fifth Harmony Barbie doll collaboration.
The new Barbie song “Anything is Possible” features an energetic beat complemented by inspirational lyrics, such as, “I can be anything I want to be // If I can dream it, I can do it // Me and my girls - yeah! // It's our world - yeah! // Anything is possible // We’re unstoppable // Me and my girls.”
To celebrate a year of girl empowerment together, Barbie will debut a full-length music video later this year featuring Fifth Harmony that brings the anthem’s spirited lyrics to life. Mattel will also introduce fans worldwide to a Barbie doll collection including five dolls created in the likeness of each Fifth Harmony member. The doll collection is set to launch at select retailers in the U.S. this holiday season and at retailers worldwide in early spring 2015.

Warner Bros. Consumer Product Lines Up Licenses for Movies, Animation, and More

Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) enters this year’s American International Toy Fair with an extensive lineup of global licensees in support of its entertainment properties. On the film side, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ upcoming Godzilla will be supported with new toy lines from Bandai America Inc. and Jakks Pacific Inc., and The Hobbit trilogy will receive new toy figures and other items from The Bridge Direct and Vivid Group.

WBCP and its licensing partners will also celebrate milestone anniversaries of several of its films: Both The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind celebrate 75 years with Mattel, Tonner Doll, and Madame Alexander; and for the 10-year anniversary of The Polar Express, licensing partner Lionel will offer locomotive sets.

For WBCP’s Batman and DC Comics properties, Mattel will release new Lights and Sounds Core Figures and a Hot Wheels Batmobile Assortment, while the Lego Group will expand its Lego DC Comics offerings with four new Batman sets, new offerings in its Juniors line, and Lego Duplo inspired-by sets.

WBCP’s licensing program for classic animation properties, including Looney Tunes, will continue under master toy partners The Bridge Direct and Character Group in the U.S. and the UK, respectively.

For the TV show The Big Bang Theory, USAopoly will release a Monopoly game; Cardinal Industries will introduce puzzles, playing cards, and games; and Tonner Dolls will showcase dolls. Wonderland Toys will feature The Big Bang Theory dolls, gifts, and novelties. WBCP’s TV show Supernatural will have a new collection from Funko featuring Pop! stylized vinyl figures.

The Jim Henson Co. Forms New Internal Publishing Division, Jim Henson Publishing

The Jim Henson Co. has formed Jim Henson Publishing, a new banner with a mission to develop publishing projects with engaging characters and storytelling in the tradition of the Jim Henson legacy.
The new division within The Jim Henson Co. will launch with the publication of the Enchanted Sisters series, a new property created by The Jim Henson Co. under the direction of Halle Stanford, executive vice president of children’s entertainment, together with veterans of the publishing and TV worlds: author Elise Allen and character designer Paige Pooler. Bloomsbury Children’s Books will publish the new chapter book series, which targets girls ages 7 to 9, beginning with the first book, Autumn’s Secret Gift, in August.
The Enchanted Sisters series tells the stories of the four Sparkles: Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Summer, who, along with Mother Nature, are responsible for each turn of the season. When they are not keeping all of nature in balance, the royal sisters play, imagine, and explore their way around their enchanted world. Creating unrest and mischief in the Sparkles’ lives are Bluster Tempest, the ruler of the Barrens where chaos and disorder rule, and the Weeds, Bluster’s wild boys who constantly try to thwart the sisters from changing the season.

Paper Punk Signs Deal with Nickelodeon for TMNT and Spongebob Products

Paper Punk has inked a deal with Nickelodeon to develop paper-based construction and craft kits inspired by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Spogebob Squarepants. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles kits will be introduced at the American International Toy Fair in New York City. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles kits will feature all four turtle characters and each will include 16 punch-n-fold shapes, more than 30 stickers, and 40 adhesive dots to construct a 3-D paper figure. They will be available early February.
The SpongeBob Squarepants kits will feature the two main characters from the show and will include eight to 16 punch-n-fold shapes, more than 120 stickers, and 40 adhesive dots to construct a 3-D paper figure. It will be available mid-year.

GBI Acquires Worldwide Rights for Pascualina

Genius Brands International Inc. has acquired the exclusive worldwide rights to Pascualina. The product is an agenda scrapbook where tweens can record their own thoughts while they follow Pascualina and her worldly adventures. The readers encounter themes such as friendship, love, self-esteem, family, and tolerance.
GBI will roll out a comprehensive consumer products program inspired by Pascualina’s world, including publishing, self-expression, apparel, accessories, toys, and crafts. In addition, GBI has finalized a deal with TF1 Enterprises to represent the licensing and merchandising rights for the brand in France.

Oznoz, JCC Partner to Bring Arabic Content to North America

Oznoz has partnered with Al Jazeera Children’s Channel (JCC) to bring original Arabic children’s programming to North American viewers. JCC will provide the content in Arabic, English, French, and other languages.
The launch includes a lineup of hit shows including Lulu and Marmar, Kalila and Dimna, and My Arabic Home from JCC’s preschool channel, Baraem. JCC hopes the partnership will reach young people worldwide to balance education through Oznoz Video streaming online or through the Oznoz iPad app.

Feld Entertainment Unveils Details on Marvel Universe LIVE!

Feld Entertainment Inc. has released a storyline and tour dates for Marvel Universe LIVE! The show will feature the most Marvel characters ever assembled in one production and put fans in the middle of a battle between good and evil.
Thor’s villainous brother Loki has devised a scheme to replicate the powers of the shattered Cosmic Cube, the source of ultimate power in the Marvel Universe. Marvel’s biggest superheroes, including The Avengers, will band together to receive the parts of the cube. At the same time, the heroes will fight villains, including the Green Goblin and Electro, who teamed up with a goal of world domination.
The show will include an innovative lighting design, transformative 3-D projections, stunt performers, and a performance within a multilevel aerial space. The Marvel tour will make its 85-city debut in July in Tampa, Fla., followed by the world premiere at the Barclays Center in New York City on August 13. Tickets for the show are on sale now.

Pepsi and Mountain Dew Sign Deals with New Licencees

The Joester Loria Group has expanded PepsiCo’s licensing programs with new tabletops, entertainment, and home décor partners for the Pepsi and Mountain Dew brands. Permasteel has created a line of indoor and outdoor coolers specifically designed for the Pepsi brand that will be available for purchase this spring. will create Pepsi print-on-demand art and photographic prints, posters, canvas, and wall décor using Pepsi’s graphic archive of more than 110 years.
iCup has created a line of everyday glasses, pitchers, canisters, and trays along with a set of acrylic and melamine products. The Pepsi collection took inspiration from more than a century’s worth of logos and graphics to design modern and retro houseware items. The Mountain Dew collection will include mason jars and other novelty items. Both collections will launch this spring and will target channels from mass up to specialty.
Advanced Graphics has created a line of stand-up wall decals for Mountain Dew. These items will be available this month across all major ecommerce platforms and specialty stores.

Ladybird To Celebrate 100 Years

Ladybird Books will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2015. To coincide with the centenary, the Penguin Licensing and Consumer Products team is developing a new three-year licensing and consumer products programme that will launch to coincide with the anniversary.

The first new Vintage Ladybird branded products will launch in late 2014 and include Portico’s range of dated and un-dated stationery products and calendars as well as a range of retro wooden postcards from The Wooden Postcard Company, who launched their range recently at Top Draw.  The Penguin licensing team are also looking to secure licensees for games and puzzles, gifting, arts and crafts, retro food and beverages and home wares.
The celebrations mark the centenary of the registration of the Ladybird logo in 1915 and will include the publication of two new books; Ladybird A Cover Story and Ladybird by Design as well as a university link-up with the University of the Arts London (UAL) culminating in a major exhibition of Ladybird design.

BBC Acquires Fourth Series of Octonauts

Silvergate Media has announced that the BBC has acquired a fourth season of its pre-school show, Octonauts.  The new series will consist of 24 x 11 minute episodes and 2 x 22 minute specials.

Doc McStuffins Hits the Road

Doc McStuffins is embarking on a national experiential retail tour entitled “Doc’s Check-Up Clinic,” inspired by the Disney Junior animated series of the same name. 
Free to the public, the touring check-up clinic will embark on a cross country road trip on 8th February visiting major cities.  The series for children models good health, nurturing and compassion through stories of a young girl, Doc, a would-be doctor, who cares for and can communicate with her toys that include Lambie and Stuffy.
The Doc McStuffins experiential tour will visit a selection of Tesco, Smyths and Toys “R” Us stores nation-wide.

Allsorts Licensing has announced the signing of Portico to the Flash Gordon Licensing programme, featuring the work of cartoon strip artist, Alex Raymond.

Walker Books to Publish Q Pootle 5 TV Tie-in Books

Rocket Licensing, which is managing the licensing campaign for Q Pootle 5, has announced two more licensing deals for the extra-terrestrial CBeebies star: Walker Books for global TV tie-in publishing and Blue Sky Designs for children’s stationery.
The multi-year global publishing deal will see Walker release a range of Q Pootle 5 themed books linked to the popular TV series under the new multi-media imprint Walker Entertainment. They include paperback and hardback picture books, board books, sticker books, colouring and activity books and gift novelty books such as pop-up, lift-the-flap and pocket library editions. There will also be ranges of Q Pootle 5 e-books and audio books. The first books are expected to arrive at retail in the autumn.

Moshi Monsters Village Launches Globally

Mind Candy has announced the global launch of Moshi Monsters Village, now available on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Having launched in the
UK on iOS before Christmas, the game reached number two in the iTunes app charts during December and achieved over 250k downloads - with no marketing spend within the first two weeks of the UK launch alone.
So far there have been over 12,500 reviews in the app store averaging at 4.6 out of 5.
Moshi Monsters Village is the latest offering from Mind Candy as the company continues to develop its mobile strategy to create family entertainment. The game will be launching in over 100 countries to expand the brand’s global reach.

Gaumont Reveals New Structure and Hires

Following the departure of Jean-Pierre Quenet at the end of 2013 after nearly 10 years as Head of Production Operations, Pierre Belaisch, Gaumont Animation’s Managing Director has revealed the production studio’s new structure.
Marc Dhrami takes on the role of Head of Production adding studio operations & productions to his co-production responsibilities. Dhrami joined Gaumont Animation in January 2011 as Head of Financing & Co-productions.
Michael Manaud becomes Director, Legal & Business Affairs, adding financing solutions with subsiding bodies and any potential investor but except via co-productions, to his legal responsibilities. Manaud joined Gaumont Animation in 2001 in the legal department.
Finally, on top of heading development, Heath Kenny becomes Creative VP and Executive Producer in charge of scouting new projects, both existing IPs and originals, to develop and bring to production.

License Connection Announces Benelux deal for Matt Hatter

License Connection, the Benelux licensing agent recently appointed to represent boy’s property, Matt Hatter Chronicles, has announced the first Benelux deal for the boys’ franchise.
UK Licensor, Platinum Films engaged License Connection as exclusive agent in the Benelux for the Matt Hatter brand in September 2013. Today the leading Benelux agency confirmed Van der Erve B.V. as the new Benelux apparel licensee for Matt Hatter.  Van der Erve is a Belgium based producer of children’s licensing apparel and brands. Their debut Matt Hatter clothing collection will be launched later in 2014.

Rainbow and Motion Pictures Join forces for Winx Club

Motion Pictures and Rainbow Group, creator and producer of Winx Club, have reached a distribution agreement that makes Motion Pictures the exclusive representative for the TV rights of all Rainbow series across Latin America, Brazil and US Spanish language networks.
This allows both companies to extend the relationship they have continued over the last 12 years in Spain and Motion Pictures will represent TV brands such as Mia and me, Huntik, PopPixie, Monster Allergy and Tommy & Oscar.

Pocket Gems has partnered with Gogii Games to publish Archie Riverdale Rescue for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Under the agreement, Pocket Gems will leverage its publishing expertise to help with player retention and monetization, as well as launch a major Valentine’s Day update for the game, which is now live.

Planeta Junior Showcases Range of Entertainment at Kidscreen

Planeta Junior will present its range in children’s entertainment this year during Kidscreen Summit 2014 in New York, based both on its new co-productions and the series it represents on an international level.
Planeta Junior will present the three series at the forefront of its portfolio: ‘Egyxos’, ‘Bubble Bip’ and ‘Sendokai Champions’.

Zodiak Rights Inks Deals for Braquo

Zodiak Rights, the distribution arm of Zodiak Media, has secured a raft of deals for Braquo, the International Emmy-Award winning series produced by Capa Drama for CANAL+ Original Creation. Building on the success of the first 2 seasons, Australia, the UK, Brazil, Israel and New Zealand have acquired the series, which premieres on CANAL+ on February 10th.
In Australia, Foxtel has acquired the TV rights of Braquo’s third season launched last Mipcom, while Beyond took the DVD rights. In the UK, the third season starring the rogue cops was acquired by Fox.
Further sales of the third season include Globosat in Brazil, Hot in Israel, and Rialto in New Zealand.

PGS Entertainment Secures First International Broadcast Licensing Deal for Stan Lee’s Mighty 7

PGS Entertainment has secured a licensing agreement with ABC TV Australia for the movie trilogy Stan Lee’s Mighty 7. Created with Stan Lee, Stan Lee’s Mighty 7 is produced by Stan Lee Comics, a joint venture among Genius Brands International, Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment, and Archie Comics. The animated movie, the first part of a trilogy, stars Stan Lee and features an all-star cast with Sean Astin from The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Jim Belushi from The Defenders, Mayim Bialik from The Big Bang Theory, Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and more.
Stan Lee’s Mighty 7 premiered in the U.S. on the Hub Network on February 1. The trilogy will air later this year on ABC3, ABC TV Australia’s destination children’s channel. ABC3 is aimed at school-aged children and broadcasts a wide variety of Australian and international programs to cater to all interests and age groups.

In the 90-minute movie, Lee is an animated version of himself, a legendary superhero creator, who teaches a crew of alien prisoners and their jailers—who have crash-landed on Earth—how to work together and use their powers to be superheroes.
