DHX Media has announced the rebranding of its content-creation arm to DHX Studios—dedicated to developing and producing the highest quality, original content in both animation and live action for kids and families.
DHX is also building a brand new 60,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art animation studio in Vancouver, to consolidate its West Coast production operations of approximately 700 personnel. The new facility is slated for completion in December 2016.

GBI, Mills Entertainment Partner for Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab Live Show

Genius Brands International Inc. (GBI) and Mills Entertainment partnered to create a live show based on animated series Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab. The Thomas Edison’s Secret Lab live show will run in major cities across the U.S. next year, and will incorporate original music by Ron Fair and his singer-songwriter wife Stefanie Fair.
GBI will also debut a new toy line from master toy partner Wicked Cool Toys in the fall. Mobile apps, games, activity kits, apparel, publishing, and an in-school curriculum program are set to launch next year.

The Brand & Lifestyle Licensing Awards Deadline Extended to February 10

The inaugural Brand & Lifestyle Licensing Awards are open for entries, with a deadline extension following a swell of submissions from brand owners, agencies, licensees and retailers.
Set to break new ground in recognising the dynamism and growth of brand licensing, these annual awards will reward excellence in brand licensed merchandise, IP management as well as retail execution.
The entire entry and nomination process for the Brand & Lifestyle Licensing Awards
is via online submission. This is live and ready for you to enter - forms accessed by clicking the link below. The deadline for entering is now extended to February 10 2016, following which a validation process for each of the awards sections will ensue, involving panels of industry experts.

The product awards can be entered by licensees, licensors (on behalf of licensees) or retailers (in the case of DTR or exclusive products). The property awards can be entered by brand owners, licensors or licensing agents. The retail awards can be entered by retailers while nominations are sought from licensees and licensors.
The finalists will be announced in March with the winners being unveiled at a daytime awards event to be held in the Ballroom of The Dorchester on Wednesday 20 April 2016.

Pillow Pets partnered with Discovery Consumer Products (DCP) for Shark Week Pillow Pets. Shark Week Pillow Pets will launch at retailers in May.

Saban Brands Reunites Paul Frank Industries with Paul Frank

Saban Brands has announced the appointment of artist and designer Paul Frank as Director of Creative Development for the company. Frank is the original founder of Paul Frank Industries (PFI) and the creator of the Julius the Monkey, as well as the additional cast of Paul Frank characters.
In his new position at Saban Brands, Frank will serve as a key player for Paul Frank Industries and bring authenticity back to the brand, while also working on new character development and other content for additional properties in the Saban Brands portfolio.
Saban Brands acquired PFI in August 2010.

DHX Brands Signs Five New UK Licensees for Teletubbies 

DHX Brands signed five new UK consumer products licensees for Teletubbies, adding to the current roster of 49 licensees.
Kokomo will have health and beauty products, including toiletries and dental; HTI will create toys, including musical role play items, activity games, and novelty items; Bladez will release a range of inflatable toys; Misirli will have socks; and Whitehouse will create products for the amusement category, including plush toys.
All products are expected to launch in the UK starting in the fall.

Coolabi Group Signs Host of New Deals for Clangers

Coolabi Group has announced deals with a raft of new licensing partners, signifying a move into additional categories for the Clangers brand.
Corsair, Apples to Pears and Demon Music Group will develop products in categories including toiletries, crafting and music, strengthening the portfolio of licensees for the BAFTA award winning new series of Clangers.
Corsair has come on board to develop toiletries and gift sets for Clangers, which will be available in the UK and Ireland from Autumn/Winter 2016. Apples to Pears will develop an arts and crafts range and gifting products including Clangers in a Tin, a Knit Your Own Clanger Kit, a Chocolate Making Kit, and an Astronomy and Stargazing Kit. The products will officially launch at Harrogate Gift Fair in July 2016. Demon Music Group has been signed by Coolabi to release popular tunes and records straight from the episodes, available to buy digitally from Spring 2016.

Destination Star Trek Europe to Celebrate
 50 Years of the Star Trek Legacy This October

CBS Consumer Products’ Destination Star Trek Europe, a Star Trek fan event in Europe, will celebrate the franchise’s 50th anniversary this fall. The event will be held at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England from October 7 to 9. Tickets are available at 

Destination Star Trek Europe will offer fans the opportunity to meet the cast and crew of the series, including William Shatner (Captain Kirk), Christopher Lloyd (Commander Kruge), and Walter Koenig (Chekov), among others.
Fans can also take command of the bridge on the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 or NCC-1701-D, investigate a Borg hive, take charge of a Klingon bird of prey, explore a shuttlecraft, and see original props and costumes from the franchise in the Destination Star Trek Museum.

New Winx Club Doll Launched At Nuremberg

A new Winx Club doll from Witty Toys, a company of the Rainbow Group, was launched at the Nuremberg Toy Fair.

Dolls based on Winx Club have been a toy sensation, with more than 100 doll collections developed and over 60m dolls sold since they first hit the market. There are twenty new collections launched each year, distributed in sixty countries throughout the world, with outfits and accessories always inspired by the hit Winx Club TV series, which boats millions of fans across the globe.

The latest doll to join the range is the Tynix Fairy doll, which fans will recognize from series 7 of the hit show.

Bandai America to Unveil Miraculous Toy Line

Bandai America will showcase its toy line for Zag Heroez’ CGI-animated TV series Miraculous during the annual North American International Toy Fair.

Bandai will introduce toys centered on aspirational action play, transformation, and friendship, including action dolls for girls, plush pets, and fashion dolls. Designed for kids ages 4 to 8, the toy line is set to launch in the fall at mass and specialty retailers worldwide.

Miraculous is a story about a young girl who taps into her superhero powers and innocent optimism to save Paris from the evil Hawk Moth.

Sesame Street Muppets Celebrate Chinese New Year with
Friends from CCTV Children’s Channel

CCTV Children’s Channel and Sesame Workshop China are collaborating again on a Chinese New Year special program—this time for 2016, the Year of Monkey.  Sesame Street’s Big Bird, Elmo and Cookie Monster invited Children’s Channel hosts Ju Ping, Xiao Lu, Huang Wei, Du Yue and Jin Dou to celebrate and enjoy the Spring Festival festivities together in Singapore.  The five segments are part of CCTV’s one-hour special Let’s Celebrate Chinese New Year.
The two organizations will also launch a joint promotional campaign on social media platforms before and during the broadcasts.

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens Video Game Debuts in June

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, TT Games, The Lego Group, and Lucasfilm partnered to create Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a video game that allows players to relive the action from the film.
Launching on June 28, the game will introduce new gameplay mechanics allowing players to build, battle, fly through the galaxy. The game will also offer new story content exploring the time between Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens that provides additional insight about the new film and its characters.
The game will be available on PlayStation4, PlayStation3, PlayStationVita, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, and Windows PC.

Brand Sense Partners Appointed for I Love NY Licensing Program

Empire State Development (ESD) has hired Brand Sense Partners (BSP) to represent and manage licensing endeavors for I Love New York, the iconic and globally recognized New York State tourism brand.
 Under the new representation agreement, BSP will engage licensees and develop a lifestyle licensing program focused on top quality products to help build awareness of New York’s 11 beautiful vacation regions.
“I Love New York is one of the most recognized logos in the world,” said Empire State Development’s Executive Director of Tourism/ I Love New York, Gavin Landry. “We’re very excited to work with Brand Sense Partners and look forward to leveraging the company’s proprietary brand extension strategy to continue building awareness of I LOVE NEW YORK and everything our great state has to offer.”
BSP will support the brand’s legacy with a renewed focus on experience, quality and tourism in New York State.  The new licensing program will highlight the diverse activities found across the State, including camping, biking, fishing and cooking to name a few, as well as its rich history and culture. A key initiative will include expanding I Love New York’s product distribution into various retail channels available to mass consumers outside of New York City and New York State.

Vidorra Group Signs Red Nose Extreme Sports for North America Launch

Vidorra Group signed Red Nose Extreme Sports as an exclusive licensing agency for the brand’s North American launch.

Red Nose is an extreme sports brand with more than 40 licensees in Brazil and Latin America. Its product categories include apparel, headwear, footwear, eyewear, sporting goods, luggage, energy drinks, back-to-school, and MMA training products.

Teddy Ruxpin Brand Set for Relaunch

Wicked Cool Toys has teamed up with Alchemy II, Inc. to relaunch the Teddy Ruxpin brand and franchise globally with toys, content and comprehensive licensed merchandising program. It is set to return in the later part of 2017.
“Teddy Ruxpin’s play-pattern and infusion of technology was way ahead of his time back in the 80’s, and with continued massive parental awareness it’s the right time to bring back this coveted brand,” said Michael Rinzler, Co-President & Founding Partner, Wicked Cool Toys.

Mercer Mayer’s Little Critter to Develop into a Global Entertainment Property

Mercer Mayer and Little Critter LLC have partnered to develop Little Critter into a global entertainment brand. John R. Sansevere, an independent media developer and writer will spearhead the venture to create animated content for multiplatform distribution and develop a strategic global licensing and merchandising program across a multiple categories. 
With more than 200 million Little Critter books sold, and more than 100 titles currently in print in the U.S., global popularity for the character created by Mercer Mayer continues to grow.

Zodiak Kids Studios in Deal for Airside Andy

Zodiak Kids Studios has entered into a development and production deal with Airside Andy Ltd to develop and produce Airside Andy, an original kids property, created by Robert Cooper and Peter Le Masurier.

Airside Andy is already live as a digital property with gaming pods in Manchester and Newcastle airports and rolling out across Swissport Aspire lounges and others this year.
Airside Andy Ltd have just launched the Airside Andy Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMO). This is the first ever children’s MMO to be created exclusively for tablet and mobile. The game has been developed by Flying Squirrel Games and Technicolor in conjunction with Airside Andy Ltd for children aged 3-8. The game will bring the whole airport together in a moderator controlled, socially interactive environment.

Laura Ashley to Launch Luxury Bedding Collection

Laura Ashley partnered with Downlite to manufacture and distribute a collection of basic and utility bedding.
Downlite will debut its new Laura Ashley collection of luxury bedding at the Home Fashion Market in its NYC showroom located in The Textile Building, 295 5th Avenue, Suite 912, during the Spring Home Fashion Market event from March 14 to 17.

Four New Partners Sign for Angry Birds

Bulldog Licensing has announced details of four new deals for Angry Birds.
The franchise has branched out into consumer products and animation, and The Angry Birds Movie, released this May, is produced by Rovio Entertainment and distributed globally by Sony Pictures International.
The new licensees are Poeticgem for adult apparel and Smith and Brooks on kids clothing, Sambro for bags, stationery and pocket money items, and Ravensburger for jigsaw puzzles.

Michael O’Mara Books to Produce RHS Range of Illustrated Publications

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has licensed independent publisher Michael O’Mara Books to produce a range of RHS books, including a colouring book, a postcard book, a notebook and a diary.
The books are RHS Notes and Quotes, RHS Postcard Book, RHS Postcards to Colour and RHS Colouring Diary.

Masha and the Bear in New Ventures with Netflix, Warner Bros. and Televisa

Animaccord Animation Studio, the founders of Masha and the Bear, announces that Netflix has just released Masha’s Tales spin-off in multiple territories, including USA, Canada and UK.

Also Warner Brothers, Italy, commented that with an attendance of 700,000 and box office takings of €4,340,000, “Masha and the Bear – Amici per sempre”, distributed in movie theaters from December 23rd to January 10th, has been confirmed as one of its greatest successes so far.

Televisa is releasing Masha and the Bear on its Channel 5 which is an important milestone for the brand.  It reaches 24.6 million TVs, which represents 91.2% of the total amount of viewers in the country.

Thomas Making Tracks to China

Mattel and HIT Entertainment announce that latest CGI feature-length Thomas & Friends special Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure will debut in 5,000 cinemas across China on the 20th February 2016. 
This is the first time a Mattel-owned brand has seen a theatrical release in China, and will be the first non-native children’s movie of the Chinese New Year to be released in cinemas. The debut of Sodor’s Legend of the Lost Treasure, which has been specially dubbed in Mandarin, comes after two years of planning and will screen in cities countrywide including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Chengdu and Shenyang. A blue carpet premiere is planned for the 18th February in Shanghai.

Zodiak Announces Further Sales for Floogals

Zodiak Kids announces that it has made further sales for Zodiak Kids Studios new animation Floogals to YLE (Finland), Canal Panda (Portugal), and MBC (Middle East). 
The 52 x 11’ series launched on Sprout, NBC Universal Cable Entertainment’s 24 hour preschool network, on the 23rd January.

Zodiak Kids has also appointed Brand Activation Consulting as the consumer products agents for Floogals in the US.  The agency is headed up by Bob Traub and Michelle McLaughlin. Discovery Kids will represent the consumer products rights for Floogals in Latin America.

Further Growth for Maya the Bee

Studio 100 announces further growth and demand for Maya the Bee in the UK and Ireland by striking a new platform deal with Irish public broadcaster TG4, plus a new magazine partnership with leading independent publisher, Redan.
The broadcasting deal with TG4 arrives at a good time for Studio 100, with the 2015 cinematic release ‘Maya the Bee the movie’ attracting strong audiences in the UK and leading to the highly anticipated DVD release and digital download which launches 8th February.
Brands with Influence Worldwide, the licensing agent representing Studio 100 in the UK has also succeeded in securing a new partnership deal with leading independent publisher for the pre-school magazine sector, Redan.  Maya the Bee will now be published in two of their lead pre-school titles “Fun To Learn Friends” and “Fun To Learn Favourites” with a combined 280,000 readers in the UK.

Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon Launches in Malaysia

Sunway and Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) announce the opening of the first Nickelodeon themed attraction in Asia, Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon in Sunway Lagoon in Malaysia.

The launch was attended by guest of honour, Selangor Chief Minister, Yang Amat Berhormat Dato' Seri Mohamed Azmin Bin Ali; Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah; Sunway Group deputy chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Razman M. Hashim, and Mark Whitehead, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, VIMN Asia.

Merriam-Webster Titles to Debut at NY Toy Fair

Elm Education Marketing, under partnership with Merriam-Webster, Inc. will re-release several of its most popular educational titles enhanced with Merriam-Webster content.
The products will launch in February 2016 at the New York Toy Fair.
The company will re-release WordTeasers: SAT: Vocabulary along with a newly developed title for middle school students, called WordTeasers: Middle School, each enriched with Merriam-Webster content.

Blue Trellis has signed Fix-It and Forget-It. Over 12 million Fix-It and Forget-It cookbooks have been sold to date.
