Iconix Exploring Sale of Peanuts, Strawberry Shortcake

Iconix has announced the intention to sell its majority stake in Peanuts Worldwide, as well as its Strawberry Shortcake brand.
Peanuts’ characters were created by Charles Schultz, and are licensed in over 100 countries, generating over $30 million per annum. The expected deal valuation has not been commented upon.
The potential sales have reportedly generated interest from Chinese investors.

NBA, Jack Daniel’s Enter Multiyear Partnership 

Jack Daniel’s and the National Basketball Association (NBA) entered a multiyear partnership that makes Jack Daniel’s an official marketing partner of the NBA, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), the NBA Development League (D-League), and USA Basketball. This marks the largest partnership with a professional sports league in the brand’s history.
The partnership will begin at the NBA All-Star 2017 in New Orleans with the Jack Daniel’s House No. 7 party. House No. 7 will take place for two nights and include musical performances, guest rooms, southern-inspired cuisine, and basketball-themed activities. Jack Daniel’s will also serve as a partner of the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. 
Jack Daniel’s, which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2016, will host a variety of events, media, and hospitality programs throughout the NBA, WNBA, NBA D-League, and USA Basketball. Jack Daniel’s will also develop NBA-themed programs at retail stores and create custom marketing and advertising campaigns. Jack Daniel’s is currently a partner of five NBA teams: Atlanta Hawks, Denver Nuggets, L.A. Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and San Antonio Spurs.

Disney Couture Launches New Beauty & The Beast Collection

With the Disney live action remake of Beauty & The Beast only weeks away, Disney Couture has just released its newest collection inspired by the movie. The romantic and whimsical new collection is entitled ‘Until The Last Petal Falls’.
Crafted in 14kt yellow, rose and white gold plating, the designs focus on the beloved characters in the movie including Mrs Potts, Lumiere and Cogsworth.  The iconic enchanted red rose will also feature, encased in a glass bell jar, as the signature necklace of the collection.  The release is supported by a Belle-inspired photoshoot with Australian model, Renee Herbert.

Cartoon Network and Boomerang Launch on Fetch TV

Cartoon Network and Boomerang launched on Fetch TV in Australia. Animated shows that will air include Ben 10, The Powerpuff Girls, Tom and Jerry, and Scooby-Doo. Turner’s two global flagship children’s channels are now available on the IPTV service.
Fetch TV viewers will also be able to view the channel’s new series Mighty Magiswords. Boomerang will feature new episodes of cartoons such as Mr Bean, Inspector Gadget, and Looney Tunes.
The announcement follows Fetch TV’s addition of Turner’s news channel CNN International last year. Fetch TV is available via ISPs including Optus, iiNet, Dodo, Internode, and iPrimus, and via leading retailers Harvey Norman and JB-HiFi.

Heidi Builds Presence in Turkey

Studio 100 announces its expansion plans for its girl’s property, Heidi, in Turkey. Heidi is currently ranking in the number one spot on TRT Coçuk since launching in June.
Studio 100 has signed a new licensing agent, Gamma Media, who plans to manage retail events and promotions for Heidi.
Esra ÜSTÜNER, Licensing Manager at Gamma Media commented on its new partnership with Studio 100: “We are honored to have been named as the Licensing Agents for Heidi in Turkey. Heidi has already achieved great awareness in the territory and will continue to grow with the new animation and investment of Studio 100. Toy State, Caterpillar Extend Global Licensing Partnership

Toy State and Caterpillar signed a four-year extension of their licensing partnership. The partnership will extend through 2021 and grants Toy State rights to continue to design, manufacture, and distribute their Cat product lines through major retailers globally.
Toy State’s partnership with Caterpillar began in 2002 and is the toy company’s longest running licensing program. Since then, the line has expanded to include a range that features Cat toys within role play, outdoor, preschool, construction, die-cast/steel, and radio-control retail categories. The licensing extension applies to all toy categories included in Toy State’s agreement.

Hoho Gets Cooking with Shane the Chef

Hoho Entertainment announces that production has commenced on Shane the Chef, a brand new 52 x 11’ pre-school animation series for Channel 5’s Milkshake! which follows the foody adventures of an energetic chef, Shane and his young daughter Izzy.
Entirely produced in the UK, Shane the Chef is being animated by Cloth Cat Animation in Cardiff, with the first episodes scheduled for delivery  this Autumn. The series, which has received production funding from Creative Europe and is being supported by the Children’s Food Trust, has already attracted significant interest from international broadcasters

20th Century Fox Consumer Products Announces New Leadership Team

20th Century Fox Consumer Products (FCP) announced a new leadership team reporting to Jim Fielding, the recently appointed president of consumer products and innovation, effective immediately.
Kirk Bloomgarden was named SVP, international operations. Bloomgarden joins the FCP team from Saban Brands. He will be responsible for the division’s business outside of North America, with an emphasis on agent relationships. 
Ann Buckingham was named SVP, global creative and product development. Previously, Buckingham served as global head of product development at DreamWorks and has experience in retail, licensing, and manufacturing. She will be responsible for all creative assets, product development, and project management.
Tim Erickson was named SVP, global licensing and operations. Erickson joins FCP from DreamWorks where he served as global head of licensing. Erickson will lead the company’s licensee partnerships around the world.
Erin Morris was named SVP, global retail business development. Morris will be responsible for retail account relationships globally as well as FCP’s marketing and E-commerce functions. She will work closely with all market heads, licensees, and agents in their territories. Erin joins FCP from DreamWorks where she served as Global Head of Sales and Marketing. 
Eva Steortz joins the division as SVP, global brand business development. Steortz and her team will manage the content partner relationships and build global brand plans for all key properties. Eva joins FCP from consulting with the Equinox Group, where she spent the last four years developing entertainment marketing plans for studios, brands, and retailers.

My Little Pony Pop-Up Spa Heads to New York 

From Feb. 9 to Feb. 17, Milk & Cookies Kids Spa and Salon in New York City will offer a My Little Pony Pamper-Me Pop-up Spa that lets kids play with new My Little Pony fashion-themed products and enjoy My Little Pony-inspired spa treatments.

Winx Doll Collection Making Nuremberg Debut

Witty Toys, part of the Rainbow Group, are presenting a host of toys at the Nuremberg Toy Fair.

The company is enjoying strong sales success at present. According to NPD Group figures the last Winx doll to be launched - the Winx Tynix Fairy - was the best-selling fashion doll in Italy in November, based on revenue.

Witty Toys will display a brand new collection at Nuremberg based on World of Winx – the original series inspired by the hit Winx Club TV show, which sees the six famous fairy friends go undercover to defeat an evil villain known as the Talent Thief. The show  has been co-produced by Rainbow and Netflix and has been available since November on Netflix in the US. From January 28th it will also screen on Rai Gulp across Italy.

Licensing Business Blooming for RHS At Spring Fair

Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) licensees will again be a strong presence at this year’s Spring Fair, held 5–9 February at Birmingham’s NEC. A number of companies offering products licensed or endorsed by the RHS – in such diverse categories as greeting cards, cookware, fragrances, stationery, gardening tools, mugs and brooms – will be showing RHS products on their stands at the home and gift industry’s biggest UK show. Many of the licensees will also be showing off the art that underpins their product packaging and designs – art based on works in the RHS Lindley Library, the world’s finest collection of botanical art.

King Features Licenses First Official Betty Boop Diner in Japan

An official Betty Boop diner is now open for business for the first time in Japan in Shimbashi, Tokyo. The restaurant was officially licensed by King Features through a deal brokered with Food Business Consultant Inc. (FBC) by King’s Japanese agent, Copyrights Asia.
Working closely with property owner Fleischer Studios, King Features is the exclusive worldwide licensing agent for Betty Boop.

Bay Tek Games Debuts Licensing Agreements for Skee-Ball

Bay Tek Games will debut licensing agreements for Skee-Ball consumer products, which will be available on digital platforms and other channels, at the North American International Toy Fair this month.
Ocean Media will create an interactive Skee-Ball app, which will be available on platforms including iOS, Android, PS, Mac, Linux, and other consoles this year. Other licensed products include Bally’s for slot machines, Alchemy3 for state lotto tickets, Zynga for online social gaming, and Running Press Books for desktop games.
Bay Tek also partnered with Full Circle United LLC to develop branded Skee-Ball leagues and tournaments across the country. Full Circle will manage these competitive environments under its trademark Brewskee-Ball.

Toy Fair ‘Launch Pad’ for First-Time Exhibitors Features Latest Innovations in Toys

In just a few weeks, more than 1,100 toy companies from startups to veteran brands will showcase the industry’s hottest new toys and games at the 114th North American International Toy Fair, taking place February 18-21 in New York City.

To accommodate an abundance of first-time exhibitors at the show, Toy Fair ’17 will feature an expanded area in Hall 1E of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, dubbed the “Launch Pad.” This section will be dedicated exclusively to show newcomers looking to unveil their fresh inventions and unique toys in front of 30,000 global Toy Fair attendees.
“With first-time exhibitors all housed in the Launch Pad, it will be easy to find the exciting array of innovative playthings created by up-and-coming toymakers, as well as unique products from international companies hoping to get a foothold in the U.S. market,” said Marian Bossard, senior vice president of global market events at the Toy Industry Association (TIA), the trade group that produces Toy Fair. “These newcomers were chosen to exhibit through a new selection process implemented for 2017 and will provide visitors a fresh and exciting perspective on the future of youth entertainment products. Our goal is for Launch Pad to be as representative as possible of the variety of toys and games attendees will find throughout the entire show.”
She added that retailers exploring the Launch Pad will have access to toys and games from exhibitors representing 18 countries, including the U.S., Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK, and Poland. A total of 30 countries will be represented by exhibitors at Toy Fair.

kathy ireland Worldwide, Bendon Inc. Announce Multiyear Extension

Bendon Inc. extended its partnership with global lifestyle design firm kathy ireland Worldwide (kiWW) until 2023. Bendon Inc. is a designer and producer of children’s coloring and activity products in the U.S. The line, which includes storybooks, coloring activities, and creative play products, is currently available in North America with plans for worldwide expansion.

Guru Names Brand Central Licensing Agent for True and the Rainbow Kingdom

Guru Studio appointed Brand Central LLC as its exclusive licensing agency to represent the new CGI-animated preschool series True and the Rainbow Kingdom. The Netflix Original series will debut this summer, with a second season set to air in the fall. The series will also make its Canadian premiere on TVO this summer. Brand Central will develop a licensing program based on the series.
True and the Rainbow Kingdom follows 8-year-old True and her best friend Bartleby the cat, as they help the citizens of the Rainbow Kingdom. True is the only one with the ability to activate the magical powers of The Wishes of the wishing tree and solve problems in the Rainbow Kingdom. The series is produced by Guru Studio, in collaboration with Pharrell Williams’ i am OTHER, FriendsWithYou, and Home Plate Entertainment.

Snoopy & Belle in Fashion to Kick Off Multicity Tour in the U.S.

The international fashion exhibit Snoopy & Belle in Fashion will come to the U.S. this year for a multicity tour that will launch on Feb. 14 at the Beverly Center in Los Angeles. The tour will conclude in the fall in New York City during New York Fashion Week.

The U.S. tour will premiere new creations from designers in every city, which will be displayed via vinyl Snoopy and Belle dolls. In Los Angeles, costume designer Colleen Atwood, actress and dancer Jenna Dewan Tatum, and designer and stylist Rachel Zoe will debut their exclusive looks for the dolls. They will join other designers, including Anna Sui, Betsey Johnson, Calvin Klein Collection, Christian Siriano, Costello Tagliapietra, Cristiano Burani, Kenneth Cole, MAC Cosmetics, Tracy Reese, Zac Posen, and more.

A new Snoopy and Belle in Fashion app will guide visitors through the exhibit and provide information about the designers and the brand’s history. A directory within the app will also allow fans to navigate locations within the Beverly Center where customers can purchase Peanuts product and the designers’ merchandise. The exhibition will visit Los Angeles, Denver, Sarasota, Nashville, Fairfax, and New York.

Snoopy & Belle in Fashion is a reimagined extension of the Snoopy in Fashion project, which debuted in 1984. The show premiered at The Louvre and went on tour at The L.A. County Museum, and throughout Europe and Asia.

The Smiley Co. Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Strong Brand Presence

The Smiley Co. celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and will exhibit at leading trade shows for categories including apparel, back to school, food, gifts, greeting cards, home décor, and toys. Since the launch of SmileyWorld 20 years ago, the brand has sold billions of units, launched tens of thousands of products, and achieved sales in excess of 1 billion Euros across 13 categories throughout the world.

Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls Gains Momentum Across EMEA

Cartoon Network EMEA unveiled developments for The Powerpuff Girls in preparation for Spielwarenmesse 2017. Cartoon Network will roll out the toy range to Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) retailers and boost broadcast exposure through the signing of new free-to-air deals.
Since Cartoon Network launched the new series of The Powerpuff Girls last April, the first wave of product has already hit shelves across EMEA. The merchandise rollout is lead by the global master toy range from Spin Master with fashion, accessories, gifting, homewares, personal care, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), and back-to-school products. 
In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the toy range launched last November following its debut at the Cartoon Network Zone in IMG Worlds of Adventure. The range launched in the UK at Argos and at The Entertainer last month. The line will launch in Spain this month at Carrefour, Alcampo, Eroski, El Corte Inglés, Toys “R” Us, Juguettos, Toy Planet, Mapa, Dimasa, Poly, and more.
Cartoon Network will boost broadcast exposure for The Powerpuff Girls following the new free-to-air deals. The Powerpuff Girls will launch on Gulli in France and on Disney Channel in Germany next month. In Italy, the show is already free-to-air on Boing. Additional FTA broadcast deals will be announced shortly.

  • Ensure licensees develop seasonal lines in time for internal seasonal review and develop documents and presentations to communicate licensee’s initiatives to internal Crayola departments
    • Set trend direction and make recommendations for new product entry
    • Direct category research and product concept testing as needed with the consumer insights team
    • Work with creative and product development on design and creative direction for licensed product and packaging
    • Responsible for managing licensee press releases, cross marketing and promotions
    • Ensure adherence to internal approval process (i.e. safety, quality, financial, legal, content, creative, consumer activation, consumer affairs etc.) and assist in resolving issues.
  • Negotiate new licensed strategic partnerships for assigned segments in conjunction with established category strategies
    • Research, secure and develop new licensees building upon the success of existing segments in order to achieve predictable, profitable and sustainable growth
    • Negotiate deal terms including: grant of rights, royalty rates, guarantees, projections and business plans
  • 7 years’ experience in licensing or consumer marketing work for a CPG company.

I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.
I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
