Disguise, Hasbro Renew Multi-Year Deal for Costumes

Disguise Inc., the Halloween costume division of Jakks Pacific Inc., has renewed its licensing agreement with Hasbro to produce Halloween costumes and accessories based on top Hasbro brands, including My Little Pony, Mr. Potato Head, and Transformers, including the new theatrical property Transformers: Age of Extinction. The new three-year agreement grants Disguise the rights to manufacture and distribute Hasbro-branded Halloween costumes and accessories to all channels in the U.S. and Canada. The new costumes will be available at retailers nationwide this Halloween season.

Beanstalk Promotes Allison Ames to President

Beanstalk has promoted Allison Ames to president of Beanstalk. In her new role, Ames will assume many of the day-to-day leadership and operational responsibilities for Beanstalk globally. In addition, she will work alongside CEO Michael Stone on many of Beanstalk’s short- and long-term strategic growth initiatives.
Ames has spent the past two years as president, North America, where she was responsible for all clients operating in the North American region, while also driving the development and execution of the agency’s growth initiatives. Previously, she was Beanstalk’s senior vice president of brand management.

Doctor Who Regenerates with Titan Comics

BBC Worldwide has signed a deal with Titan Comics to open up the world of Doctor Who and provide fans with new stand-alone adventures featuring the Tenth Doctor, Eleventh Doctor, and—after the new series launch—the Twelfth Doctor. Creative and production teams will be announced in the coming weeks and the first comic books will be released this year.
The Doctor Who Christmas special, “The Time of the Doctor,” saw Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor regenerate into the Twelfth Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi. The next season is now in production and will premiere this year. Last year, Doctor Who set ratings and social media records for BBC America. Doctor Who is sold to more than 200 territories worldwide, and last year was awarded the Guinness World Record for the largest TV drama simulcast ever after the 50th anniversary special was broadcast to 98 countries at the same time, as well in thousands of cinemas worldwide.

NECA, TCF Partner for Planet of the Apes Product Lines

National Entertainment Collectibles Association (NECA) has partnered with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products to create Planet of the Apes products based on the classic movies and upcoming film. The products will be available this summer and will include action figures, giftware, apparel, and accessories. The launch of the products will coincide with the release of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes on July 11.

Discovery Communications, G Mason Partner for Animal Planet Pet Accessories

Discovery Communications has partnered with the G Mason Group to create a line of Animal Planet pet travel accessories. The initial product launch will include car seat covers, car booster seats, a kennel, crate mats with memory foam, orthopedic foam, and tough chew fabrications. The line will expand with pet carriers, back seat barriers, back seat nets, and anti-anxiety travel-calming jackets.
The products will be available this summer at department stores, mid-tier, and specialty chains, warehouse membership clubs, and independent specialty stores. The new product line will expand Animal Planet’s pet programs in the U.S. and Canada.

So So Happy Signs On as Newest Toon Hero Licensee

Trigger Happy has teamed up with eOne’s lifestyle brand So So Happy to license characters from its Toon Hero app. Toon Hero is a free iPad app that allows users to animate and interact with licensed characters. So So Happy will join the list of Toon Hero’s already established partnerships with brands and studios, including The Jim Henson Co. and National Geographic.

Lawless Entertainment Represents Nutri Ventures

Lawless Entertainment has been appointed as the representative for TV distribution, licensing, and merchandising in North America and Asia Pacific for Nutri Ventures. Nutri Ventures is the first entertainment brand that encourages healthy eating in kids ages 4 to 8. The show follows four young heroes who learn the importance of nutrition and is available exclusively on Hulu Kids. A total of 29 episodes will be available on Hulu Kids via the Hulu Plus subscription, with 11 episodes available for free on

Vandor Unveils More Than 100 Products in New Lineup

Vandor LLC has introduced more than 100 new products to its winter 2014 catalog along with three new categories of merchandise. Paul Frank has joined the company’s list of licenses, where Julius the monkey is featured on drinkware, tin totes, shopper totes, cookie jars, and other products in the catalog.
The sports-style Tritan water bottle was added to the 2014 lineup with nine different designs, each featuring one of Vandor’s licenses. This year’s catalog also debuted five designs of hand-painted collector glasses, designed by Adrian Villanueva. Vandor released a redesigned 12-ounce ceramic mug featuring an exclusive new shape in more than 16 different designs.
In addition to the new products, Vandor highlighted key 2014 events featuring pop icon licenses, including the expansion of its Marvel lineup with 29 new items and characters. The company will also launch a year-long Beatlemania campaign to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Beatles coming to America.

Big Tent Entertainment, Kelly Toy Expand Relationship for Domo Pet Products

Kelly Toy has signed a deal with Big Tent Entertainment to debut a line of Domo pet products. The new deal will feature three categories of products, including toys, beds, and pet T-shirts. The products will be available later this year throughout the U.S. and Canada in pet stores and wherever pet supplies are sold.
The deal expands Big Tent Entertainment’s existing relationship with Kelly Toy, which currently manufactures and distributes Domo-branded plush.

WWE Studios, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Co-Produce Scooby-Doo! Wrestlemania Mystery

WWE Studios and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment have teamed up to produce the new animated film Scooby-Doo! WrestleMania Mystery, available on March 25. The original movie reveals the tale of how Scooby Doo, Shaggy, and the rest of the Mystery Inc. gang protect the coveted WWE championship belt during a trip to WWE City.
The movie features some of the biggest names from the WWE in animated form, including John Cena, Triple H, Sin Cara, Brodus Clay, AJ Lee, The Miz, Santino, and Kane. WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon will also appear as a character in the movie.

Nelvana Enterprises Signs Worldwide Broadcast Deals for Beyblade Series

Nelvana Enterprises has signed major international deals for the Beywarriors Beyraiderz series. The 13 x 30-minute animated series launched in Canada on January 4 and was brought to the U.S., France, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Portugal later in the month. The worldwide broadcast debut coincides with Hasbro’s Beywarriors Beyraiderz toy line, which is currently launching globally.

Nelvana in Deals with Cartoon Network Latin America

Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana has completed deals for 78 half hours of programming with Cartoon Network Latin America.
“We’re delighted to continue our valuable relationship with Cartoon Network Latin America,” said Jerry Diaz, Vice President of Sales for Nelvana. “The fact that they have acquired additional seasons of these programs shows the strength of our portfolio of new animated comedies.” 
Cartoon Network Latin America has purchased new seasons of Sidekick, Scaredy Squirrel, Detentionaire, and Mr. Young.

Kaboom! Acquires HE Rights for Zack & Quack

kaboom! Entertainment, the kids and family label of Phase 4 Films, has acquired home entertainment rights to the new animated preschool show, Zack & Quack, from Zodiak Kids. 
The 52 x 11’ series is set to debut on Nick Jr channels globally in 2014. kaboom! holds DVD, DTO/DTR, TVOD (excluding SVOD) rights in the U.S., and DVD rights for Canada.
kaboom! is taking Zack & Quack to retail on DVD in Canada through its Treehouse Presents label, jointly created by Corus and Phase 4 Films. In the U.S. kaboom! holds a range of home entertainment rights to the show, which features the every-day life and adventures of Zack and his friends as they journey through their pop-up storybook. With the immersive and original animation of the show, Zack & Quack celebrates imagination, discovery, and creative problem solving.

Sanrio, Trunki Partner for Hello Kitty Suitcases

Sanrio has partnered with Trunki to create two Hello Kitty suitcase designs. Both designs will launch early this spring in celebration of Hello Kitty’s 40th anniversary. The luggage deal, brokered by Sanrio’s UK licensing agent Fluid World, will include the first sparkle Trunki suitcase.

Calimero Series Set to Debut on TF1 in February

Gaumont Animation, Calidra, Italy’s Studio Campedelli, and Japanese partners TV Tokyo and Kodansha, have announced that its new CGI-animated series Calimero will premiere in France on TF1 on February 9.
“We are eager for the new Calimero series to conquer the hearts of a whole new generation in the same way the original character had in our youth” said Gaumont Animation’s Managing Director Pierre Belaïsch. “TF1 have been extremely supportive throughout the production process and their commitment was key in trying to make the new Calimero live up to its already famous name.”

Bulldog Hires New Creative Services Executive

Sole Puerto has made the move from the field of genetics to join Bulldog as Creative Services Executive. Sole will be responsible for creative approvals and joins Bulldog as the company continues to build on its status as one of the UK’s leading licensing agencies, with a portfolio of properties such as Plants vs. Zombies, Monkey, Life, and Garfield.

Hoho Rights Signs International Deals for Cloudbabies

Hoho Rights has signed a raft of new overseas deals for its preschool series Cloudbabies, which sees the 52 x 10-minute CGI-animated series licensed to RTP in Portugal, JCC (Al Jazeera children) in the Middle East, and Kenny & Co in Korea.  The characters are set to debut on channels later this year.
The CBeebies show already broadcasts in a number of territories, including ABC TV in Australia, TVNZ in New Zealand, Hop! In Israel, S4C in Wales, TrueCorp in Thailand, and PTS in Taiwan, and it is set to launch on KiKA in Germany and TG4 in Ireland.
Cloudbabies is also popular in Poland where it airs on the MiniMini channel, and a Covermount DVD deal has been agreed with MSZ Poland for a children’s magazine.
“Cloudbabies expansion into the global market continues to gather pace and we’re delighted to announce these three prestigious deals and a covermount promotion which will see more and more children engaging with the show around the world.” says Danielle Davies, Hoho Entertainment’s Head of Sales and Acquisitions.

Tree Fu Tom’s Magic Spreads Overseas

FremantleMedia Kids & Family Entertainment has announced the increased international expansion of its preschool action adventure series Tree Fu Tom with the appointment of three new licensing agents covering the Middle East, France, and Brazil, and a toy distribution partner for the Middle East. The new agents will actively seek best-in-class partners and devise specific consumer product roll out strategies for their respective regions.
MBC will act as the licensing agent for Tree Fu Tom in the Middle East with Toy Triangle appointed as the distributor of Giochi Preziosi’s Tree Fu Tom toy range. Following success on Discovery Kids in Brazil, where the series is the No. 1 show for kids ages 4 to 6, Redibra will take on responsibility for the brand in the country. 
Biplano has been appointed to represent the licensing and promotional rights for the brand in France. The French licensing and merchandising program will be bolstered by the forthcoming launch of European master toy partner, Giochi Preziosi’s first product range, which is due to launch at retail in the second quarter of this year. With a broadcast platform in place—Tree Fu Tom has already aired on Tiji and is due to be shown on Gulli later this year—and the confirmation of the master toy roll out, Biplano is well positioned to seek partners for key additional categories.
These latest signings follow on from the initial international launch of the toys in Israel, Spain, and Portugal.

New Star Wars Droid Revealed at Nuremberg

At the media preview event at Nuremberg Toy Fair, the world got its first look at Chopper, a droid who will play a prominent role in the forthcoming animated series, Star Wars Rebels, and take his place in the wider Star Wars mythology.
The design of Chopper, a.k.a. C1-10P, takes cues from early Ralph McQuarrie concept art for R2-D2, especially the expressive arms that fold out of his head. As Star Wars Rebels takes place four years prior to the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, Chopper’s retro look creates an aesthetic continuity with droids of the original trilogy.
Star Wars Rebels is scheduled to premiere in the fall as a one-hour special on the Disney Channel, followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.

Disney Announces Winners of Licensee Awards

The Walt Disney Co. UK & Ireland has unveiled the winners in its inaugural 2013 Licensee Awards, which were revealed last night at a gala dinner at London’s Hurlingham Club. Over 80 licensees from across the industry were in attendance at the awards ceremony, which celebrated excellence in licensing for Disney.
The awards were presented in 10 different categories; Best New Licensee, Most Innovative Product of the year, Most Integrated Marketing Campaign of the Year, Best Boy Licensee, Best Girls and Tween Licensee, Best Adult and Teen Licensee, Best Infant and Pre-school Licensee, Best Publishing Licensee, Business Partner of the Year and Disney Licensee Lifetime Achievement Award.
The shortlist and winners for each category were decided by a panel of senior Disney executives, who based their decisions on various relevant criteria including consumer engagement, product innovation, cross-category approach and communication across multiple platforms.
The ceremony included a presentation of the first Licensee Lifetime Achievement Award, which was presented to David Aykroyd, Joint Managing Director of Aykroyd & Sons Ltd. This special award was in recognition of a family business who has been an outstanding Disney licensee for over 30 years and who hold Disney, Marvel and Lucas contracts for their range of nightwear apparel.

Warner Bros. Signs Deal with Curious Fox

Curious Fox, an imprint of Capstone, has signed a new licensing deal with Warner Bros. Consumer Products UK.
Under the terms of the three-year deal, the children’s publishing specialist will be launching new books for DC Comics Justice League, Looney Tunes, and top dog Scooby-Doo. The first titles will launch in May 2014 with Curious Fox outlining ambitious plans to publish at least 30 books in the first year developing a range that will target boys and girls ages 5 to 12.
Hero products will include three-in-one fiction box sets for the Justice League Super Heroes Batman and Superman (June 2014); illustrated, color, non-fiction titles Batmobiles and Batcycles and The Engineering Behind Batman’s Vehicles (July 2014) and hardback gift books like the Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo Treasuries (Summer 2014).
The UK deal is an extension of an existing relationship between Capstone and Warner Bros. Consumer Products in the US.

Turner Broadcasting Appoints Johanne Broadfield

Turner Broadcasting has appointmented Johanne Broadfield to the role of vice president, Cartoon Network Enterprises, EMEA. She will be responsible for leading Turner’s consumer products team and business, spearheading the development of Turner’s channel and show brands into consumer product franchises within and across the region.
Broadfield will lead a business unit responsible for product licensing, promotions, publishing, home entertainment, events, and environments.
She will also direct brand, licensing, retail, and associated marketing strategies for Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE), working in conjunction with the global Turner CNE team to develop and execute franchise strategies and plans.
Broadfield joins Turner Broadcasting from Mattel, where she was senior director across the UK, Canada, and Eastern Europe consumer products business. She has also held leadership roles at Disney, Fisher-Price, and Burda Medien and Alpina International in Germany.

Silvergate Media’s Peter Rabbit Hops into Germany

Silvergate Media has signed a deal with Super RTL for the broadcast and merchandising rights for its property Peter Rabbit brand across German-speaking territories, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, and Alto Aldige.
Co-produced with Penguin UK and Nickelodeon US, the brand new Peter Rabbit animated television series consists of 50 x 11’ and three half-hour specials. The series launched on SuperRTL’s Toggolino in November 2013 and has had launches in the US, UK, France and Australia.
The licensing and merchandising deal between Silvergate Media and Super RTL includes both incarnations of Beatrix Potter’s rabbit, Classic Peter Rabbit and Peter Rabbit TV—based on the new CGI-animated TV program. Activities planned for the brand include promotions, live entertainment, music, magazine publishing, and home entertainment with the TV launch providing synergy between on- and off-air activity.

Heunec, Schleich Sign for Peanuts

Peanuts has new partners, including Heunec and Schleich, which will enable the brand to feature prominently at retail this year.
The Peanuts toys and games program will be complemented by the comprehensive line of Noris-Spiele, as well as the Table Edition ‘Die Peanuts Schatztruhe’ from Panini Books.

JELC Licenses Allan and Bertram to Produce Lindy Smith Calendars

JELC, the global licensing agent for the sugar craft artist and leading lifestyle brand Lindy Smith, has announced a deal with Allan and Bertram.
Allan and Bertram’s 2015 Lindy Smith calendar will employ the reproduction, exclusive designs and photography for which the company is renowned to reflect the colour, creativity and skill in her art that has made Lindy Smith famous in cake design as well as an author, teacher and businesswoman.
The calendar will launch at this year’s Spring Fair, which takes place at the NEC in Birmingham from 2-6 February. Allan and Bertram can be found in Hall 4, stand C20.  Deliveries of the calendar will begin in September 2014, with wide availability expected from October in store and on line.

LIMA will play a key role at Spring Fair International in Birmingham from  February 2 through 6 by providing licensing information and advice at its dedicated booth within the show’s Licensing Lounge.
Located in Hall 3 of the NEC, (stand 3C18-D19) the Licensing Lounge will, for the third year running, provide a focal point for brand owners, licensing agents, suppliers seeking new licences and retailers keen to learn more about rising licensed properties and characters to suit their stores. Media partners including the Licensing Source Book and Guide to Licensing World also support the Licensing Lounge.

Danilo Scoops National Calendar Awards

The 10th annual National Calendar Awards were recently held at The Stationers Hall in the City of London.
Danilo Promotions, the official calendar company, scooped four awards at the ceremony to make their total 39 to date.
The success of the 50th Anniversary Dr Who 2014 Calendar won the BBC two awards, The Elephant Award, the most prestigious award of the night, and the 2014 Humour Character award.

Hit Announces Simba-Dickie for Fireman Sam

Hit Entertainment has appointed Simba-Dickie as the new European master toy partner (non-UK) for Fireman Sam.
Launching the first lines from August 2014, Simba will produce a range of figures, play sets, vehicles and role play, while Dickie will launch a range of die-cast vehicles, play sets and accessories, RC vehicles, and walkie talkies.

Rocket to Bring Models Own into the Licensing Space

Independent licensing company Rocket Licensing has been appointed as licensing agent for the young women’s fashion accessory and make-up brand Models Own.  Models Own is, at its core, famous for nail polishes focusing on color and style. 
Initial product areas being targeted for the licensing campaign include phone covers, sunglasses, stationery, electrical hair care and apparel. Retail targets will include major online and high street fashion retailers and chemists.

Science Museum Makes a Splash

Science Museum Enterprises has partnered with digital agency GR/DD to create a new preschool app. Working closely with the museum’s Learning team, Splash! is the first in a series based on the Garden gallery, which provides an engaging way to promote the development of key scientific skills in kids.
Play focuses on floating and sinking and uses a wide range of objects that drop into a bath of reactive, simulated water.
Using intuitive motion techniques, Splash! breaks beyond the traditional digital boundaries as children can tip, twist and turn their device to make the water splash and flow across the screen.
“The creation that GR/DD has come up with for us is superb,” comments Brenda Conway, Senior Creative Manager. “It will definitely appeal to young children and parents outside the museum. We’ve made sure that the objects are all easily identifiable to the target age group, and the app is designed to be used reactively. We’ve also included a parents’ zone which talks about the key scientific skills that children are using and developing while playing and gives ideas for how parents can enhance their child’s learning further.”
