Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) signed new licensees for a global licensing and merchandising program for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, releasing in theaters on March 25.
Mattel will unveil a full toy line, including action figures, vehicles, play sets, and collectible figures; The Lego Group will launch construction sets; and Rubie’s Costume Co. will introduce a new line of costumes and accessories for kid and adult fans.
Other licensees include Funko for stylized collectible figures; Thinkway Toys for a role-play line; Jakks Pacific for Batman and Superman collectible figures; Tonner Dolls for detailed fashion dolls; Bandai America for poseable figure model kits; Spin Master for remote control Batmobiles; and Buffalo Games for adult puzzles.
Sideshow Collectibles will launch detailed statues; The Noble Collection will introduce prop replicas; NECA will launch an 18-inch figure; Soap Studios will launch replicas of the Batmobile; and Hot Toys, Kotobukiya, SquareEnix, Medicom Toy, Prime 1 Studio, and Union Creative will launch collectibles.
Licensees also include Bioworld, Junk Food, New Era Cap Co., Matchless London, Converse Kicks, Scholastic, and Titan Books.

Quentin Blake to Illustrate New Beatrix Potter Title

Penguin Random House Children's will be publishing a brand-new tale by Beatrix Potter, over 100 years after it was written.
The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots, a manuscript by Beatrix Potter, was rediscovered by Jo Hanks, publisher at PRH Children's, when she stumbled across an out-of-print literary history book about Potter from the early 1970s. Hanks found in the book both a reference to a letter that Potter had sent her publisher in 1914, which referred to a story about ‘a well-behaved prime black Kitty cat, who leads rather a double life’, and an unedited manuscript of the tale.
A trip to the V&A archive, where many of Potter’s items are kept, revealed three manuscripts, handwritten in children’s school notebooks, one rough colour sketch of Kitty-in-Boots, a dummy book with some of the typeset manuscript laid out and a pencil rough of arch-villain Mr. Tod.
PRH Children’s approached Quentin Blake, and he was ‘thrilled to take on the project’.

DCP and Bandai Launch Finding Dory Product Line

Disney Consumer Products (DCP) and Bandai unveiled the new global product lineup celebrating Disney Pixar’s Finding Dory, debuting in the U.S. on June 17.  

With recognizable sounds and voices from Dory, Marlin, and Nemo, Bandai’s products capture the essence of the film and transform key moments into play sets, interactive toys, feature figures, plush, and bath toys. Highlights include a My Friend Dory interactive soft figure and Swigglefish figure. The merchandise will roll out globally starting May.

BBC Worldwide Signs Golden Bear for Justin’s House

Following on from the company’s successful Something Special toy range, BBC Worldwide has signed a new deal with Golden Bear as master toy partner for Justin’s House.
“Justin’s House has immense popularity and it continues to be a huge success on CBeebies, so we’re thrilled to be adding the license to our toy portfolio,” says Katherine Pierce, Senior Licensing and Marketing Manager at Golden Bear.  “It was a natural next step for us to add Justin’s House to complement our highly popular, award-winning Something Special range. It extends the huge appeal that Justin Fletcher has across this TV programmes and we are delighted to be supporting this with new toy product.”

Activision Publishing, Kid Cuisine Partner for Skylanders Frozen Food

Activision Publishing Inc. and ConAgra Foods’ Kid Cuisine partnered to launch Skylanders-inspired frozen food. Available now through April 15, promotional meals will be available at Walmart, Target, and participating major grocery stores across the U.S.

Kids can enjoy meals featuring Stealth Elf- and Kaos-shaped chicken nuggets with gem-shaped cookies, or Spyro and Dream Catcher-shaped macaroni with pudding that changes color while kids eat. Nine different meals are available.

Kids can get an extra treat inside each Skylanders Kid Cuisine meal box, and a free Stealth Elf Skylanders Battlecast card. Skylanders Battlecast offers a new free-to-play mobile game, with everything from collectability to strategic card combat, online games, and single-player campaign.

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers Launches Dinotrux Publishing Program

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers will begin publishing children’s books in conjunction with DreamWorks Animation’s TV series Dinotrux in April.

The licensing agreement includes reader, storybook, and board books for the U.S. and Canada. The DreamWorks Animation series is distributed by Netflix and is based on Chris Gall’s picture book series, which is also published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.

The Dinotrux publishing program launches on April 5 with five titles, including Dinotrux: Team Dinotrux, Dinotrux: to the Rescue!, Dinotrux: It Takes Teamwork!, Dinotrux: Dare to Repair!, and Dinotrux: Just Hatched!

Brand Licensing Select Event Signs Major Brands for September 2016 Event

Emerald Expositions, producer of licensing events and tradeshows, including The Sports Licensing and Tailgate Show and SURTEX, announced that more brands are on board in support of the Brand Licensing Select event.
The latest in Emerald Exposition’s licensing show portfolio, Brand Licensing Select slated for September 27-29, 2016 in New York, NY, is a hosted buyer event for a select group of invited brands and retailers. There is no fee for retailers to attend.
“Call it the non-tradeshow,” said Liz Crawford, VP Emerald Expositions, Licensing. “There is no conference, except a CEO Roundtable, so it’s not your ordinary licensing event. We feel, as event organizers we need to deliver real value to our customers and in the brand space, this is one way to tackle that need.”
This business platform will bring together an invited group of key retailers, licensors, agents and brands together in a private setting, away from the traditional tradeshow format. Brands including, Global Icons, Boy Scouts of America, Meredith Brands, and The Brand Liaison, among others, have already committed to participate.

Cartoon Network Appoints Pacific Licensing Studio for Representation in Southeast Asia and Taiwan

Pacific Licensing Studio will represent the consumer products division of Cartoon Network in Southeast Asia. The partnership includes driving the regional licensing business for global brands, including The Powerpuff Girls, Ben 10, We Bare Bears, and Adventure Time.
The deal stretches across Southeast Asia, including major markets such as Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

TLC Signs Up for the ‘B&LLAs’

The Licensing Company (TLC) has become the latest company to sign up to the Brand & Lifestyle Licensing Awards.
TLC/Global Brands Group is sponsoring the Best Licensed Brand Adult Apparel Product or Range at the awards, which will take place on Wednesday April 20 at The Dorchester.
Other partners already on board include Brand Licensing Europe 2016, LIMA, Emerald Exhibitions, Golden Goose, Hallett Retail, Beanstalk, Brands With Influence, IFL Science, Discovery, Kimm & Miller, Octane 5, Pringles, The Licensing Source Book, CPLG, JCB, Happy Jackson and Spring Fair.

Sega Signs More than 25 Licensees for Sonic the Hedgehog

Sega partners with more than 25 merchandising and promotional licensees for its Sonic the Hedgehog franchise this year, after the success of animated series Sega Boom. With Sonic’s 25th anniversary this year, these partnerships in categories such as apparel, accessories, and novelties aim to bolster the classic Sonic the Hedgehog brand and Sonic Boom franchise.

The licensing program is lead by master toy partner Tomy. New partners include Komar Brands, Concept One Accessories, LoungeFly, Bentex Group Inc., Signorelli Inc., and Accutime Watch Corp.

DHX Signs Five New Licensees for Teletubbies

Kokomo, HTI, Bladez, Misirli and Whitehouse have joined the roster of licensees for the Teletubbies.
Adding to the current roster of 49 licensees representing the property, DHX Brands has secured Kokomo to produce products in the health and beauty category, which includes toiletries and dental; HTI will produce Teletubbies-themed toys, which include musical role playing and activity games, as well as novelty items; Bladez will be launching a range of inflatable toys; and Misirli has taken the license for Teletubbies socks. DHX Brands has also secured Whitehouse for the amusement category, including plush toys.
Products from these licensees are expected to launch in the UK beginning in autumn 2016.

9 Story Partners with Disney Junior Latin America

9 Story Media Group licensed season three of animated preschool TV series Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood to Disney Junior Latin America. The first season premiered on the Latin American network in 2013, followed by the second season last June.

The series launched on PBS Kids network in the U.S. and CBC in Canada in 2012. The series was licensed to TV Brasil (Brazil), Canal Once (Mexico), Clarovideo (Latin America), and VOD Kids (Chile) in South America.

The series also airs in Europe, Australia, Asia, Russia, and the Middle East.

Coolabi Celebrates Clangers Success

The brand new series of Clangers launched on CBeebies in June 2015, with launch day ratings of nearly 1 million viewers.
It ended 2015 with special Christmas Day episode The Brilliant Surprise airing on BBC 1 to 1.7 million people across the UK. Plus it rated as the number one animated series on CBeebies for ‘Housewives with Children’ 0-3 in the very competitive Christmas period. It has also had around 4 million streams/ downloads on the BBC iPlayer.
Clangers has already won the 2015 BAFTA for Best Pre-School Animation, and, in 2016, the show has nominations for Best Pre-School Animated Series in the Kidscreen Awards and Best Pre-School Programme in the Broadcast Awards.
Clangers has 23 licensees so far, across all major categories, with consumer products entering the market throughout 2016. This follows on from the extensive toy lines from Character Options in A/W 2015. The property has just announced a new partnership with Ty for 2016 and beyond.

Emerald Expositions Licensing Group Partners with SPLiCE

Emerald Expositions has announced that it has partnered with SPLiCE, the Society of Product Licensors Committed to Excellence, on its portfolio of licensing events. The partnership will provide brands with membership benefits and marketing support for Emerald Exposition’s licensing events, including Brand Licensing Select, The Sports Licensing and Tailgate Show and SURTEX.

LIMA Announces New Representative in India

The International Licensing Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA), the global trade association for the licensing industry, announces Rutika Malaviya, Rooh Entertainment, as the Official LIMA Representative in India.  Rutika is Editor-In-Chief of Animation Digital Digest and Founder and CEO of Rooh Entertainment. She previously was a member of the LIMA India Advisory Committee.
“LIMA is a firm believer in the great potential of the Indian licensing market,” said LIMA President Charles Riotto. “As the industry’s global trade organization, our intention is to facilitate the growth of the licensing business in India by providing educational programs and related services to help build a foundation of knowledgeable licensing professionals and sound business practices.  Accordingly, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Rutika Malaviya as our Official Representative in the region.  I believe Rutika’s experience, business acumen and enthusiasm for the business of licensing will be key factors in helping the industry develop and prosper in India in the years ahead.”

Metrostar Announces New Scout Licensing

Metrostar, the licensing and literary agency for The Scout Association, has announced three new licensing partners for the organisation.
Joining existing licensees, Ginger Fox and Peartree Heybridge, leading collectibles company Danbury Mint have partnered with Steiff, the inventors of the teddy bear, to develop a limited edition Steiff Cub Scout bear to celebrate Cubs100, the Cub Scouts centenary in 2016. Each bear wears a centenary scarf secured with a leather woggle impressed with the Cubs logo.
In addition, teNeues will launch the first Scouts wall calendar later this year. Inspired by the original 1914 Scouts tests re-published in the recent book, Scouts Tests and How to Pass Them, each month will feature an illustration and text describing a particular Scouts badge or skill.
Spineless Classics is also making reference to original Scouts material as it launches its framed print reproduction of Scouting For Boys.

Oxford Welcomes Clementoni to Licensing Program

Oxford Limited has signed international toy company, Clementoni, to develop a range of University of Oxford games and puzzles for distribution and retail in the UK. 
The range is likely to include a mix of different themed games aimed at pre-schoolers to the whole family as well as adult puzzles.
"Both the University of Oxford and Clementoni are world leaders in their sector of expertise, and we are delighted to welcome them to the licensing programme,” commented Hannah Aspey, Brand & Comms, Oxford Limited.

Magic Light Pictures Expands Stick Man Licensing Program Following Christmas Success

Magic Light Pictures has launched a merchandising programme based on the picture book Stick Man, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. First published by Scholastic, the story tells the tale of a happy go lucky father’s epic journey to make it home to his Family Tree.
This Christmas, Magic Light’s animated adaption premiered on BBC One and was the fourth most watched programme on Christmas Day with 9.27 million viewers and 41% audience share. Followed by a successful digital release, the film will be available on DVD from February 1st.  
In the build up, the company partnered with a number of licensees to create a new range of Stick Man inspired products. Dedicated licensee Aurora created a series of Stick Man plush toys; Ravensburger launched a giant Stick Man floor puzzle and 4-in-1 jigsaw and longstanding partner Sainsbury’s introduced a Stick Man pyjama across stores nationwide. This year Fabric Flavours is set to launch two children’s t-shirt’s and Specsavers will introduce a Stick Man reading frame alongside its hugely successful Gruffalo offering.
Magic Light also launched 24 Stick Man trails across England late last year in partnership with the Forestry Commission England following the longstanding success of The Gruffalo Trails, which won Best Marketing & Communications Campaign at the 2015 Licensing Awards.
The company also developed the first Stick Man app in partnership with Scary Beasties.

Disney’s The Lion King Returns with New Content and Toys for Preschoolers

Disney Junior’s The Lion Guard is set to introduce a new generation of fans to The Lion King. New toys and cross-category licensed product inspired by the show will launch at retail from spring.
New toys, playsets and more from UK licensees GP Flair’s Just Play Division and Posh Paws will extend the storytelling for pre-schoolers as they play with the new characters as well as long-time favourite Lion King characters including Simba and Nala.  
The Lion Guard will follow the launch of a special TV movie premiere on Monday February 8th at 5.30pm, The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar, and continues the story introduced 20 years ago in the acclaimed Disney animated film, The Lion King.

Yo-Kai Watch Heads to 100 Countries

Viz Media Europe has announced the launch of Yo-Kai Watch in over 100 territories, including the UK.
The first season will be broadcast in Spring 2016. The 360° franchise will be supported by toys (Hasbro, Inc.), videogames (Nintendo 3DS), manga publishing, and a massive licensing program.
The series was successfully launched in the USA last year, along with video game, toys and merchandising.

Factory Entertainment to Debut Collectibles at NY Toy Fair

Factory Entertainment will be debut highly-detailed collectibles at this year’s New York Toy Fair, February 13-16. Based on some of today’s hottest entertainment properties, Factory Entertainment will introduce new products and categories to appeal to pop culture enthusiasts of all ages.
Factory Entertainment will showcase a wide array of from popular licenses including, among many others, Marvel, DC Comics, Game of Thrones, Jurassic World and Ghostbusters.

Viacom Italia to Exhibit for First Time at Bologna Licensing Trade fair

The Bologna Licensing Trade Fair announces that Viacom International Media Networks Italia will exhibit.
For the first time in Bologna, together with the already announced presence of The Walt Disney Company Italia, and with confirmed exhibitors Mattel, CPLG, Mediaset, RaiCom, Planeta, The Licensing Company Italia, Rainbow, Boing Spa and all of the other players of the industry, the presence of Viacom Italia brings a larger value to the event thanks to the brand’s portfolio.
Bologna Licensing Trade Fair (4-6 April 2016, Bolognafiere) is a Bolognafiere SpA event in concomitance with the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.

Jumbo Games has announced the appointment of MI PR Global as its retained agency to handle its communications across consumer, corporate, trade and events for 2016. 
Focusing on the leading adult and children’s puzzle & game ranges, MI PR Global will support Jumbo with planning and execution of key product launches, events and PR activities.  In 2016 Jumbo plans to strengthen its adult puzzle & accessories portfolio, focussing on Wasgij, Falcon de luxe and Puzzle Mates, as well as continue to develop its own children’s puzzle brand, DINO, with a clear strategy for the future.

Komixx Media Announces Italian Acquisition with Toby’s Traveling Circus

Komixx Media Group announced at 2016 London Toy Fair that Toby’s Traveling Circus, has been acquired by family focused Italian broadcaster Rai Yoyo.
The announcement comes as licensing agency Metrostar take this pre-school brand to worldwide licensees and retailers at 2016 Toy Fair. The pre-school animation has been sold to over 30 territories, making it a global success.

m4e and Planeta Junior Join Forces

m4e and Planeta Junior will form a long-term co-production, distribution as well as licensing & merchandising partnership.
As part of this strategic alliance, several rights from Planeta Junior’s IPs and some of m4e’s new developments will thus be jointly co-produced. Both parties will furthermore distribute each other’s audio visual rights catalogue. Planeta Junior will be focusing mainly on France and Southern Europe while m4e will be covering Central & Northern Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, North America, Africa and the Middle East. Eastern Europe will be handled jointly by both companies.
With the aim of building a leading worldwide business, m4e and Planeta Junior are about to combine their several teams to a strong international network. The new venture will be able to offer a broad distribution and presence via own offices in eight European countries including Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Poland and Benelux. An expansion into other  major territories is planned in the medium term.

Nurture Rights Agrees to Exclusive Deal with Mothercare & Natural History Museum for Dinosaur Roar

Nurture Rights has agreed an exclusive partnership with Mothercare for a Dinosaur Roar! apparel range in conjunction with the Natural History Museum.
The agreement gives Mothercare an exclusive Dinosaur Roar! merchandise programme across nightwear, outerwear, footwear and underwear and includes additional toys and gifting items.
Nurture has also signed deals with a number of apparel companies including Blues Clothing (outerwear), Aykroyds (Nightwear), William Lamb (footwear) and Roy Lowe (socks) to produce the range for Mothercare.

Pacific Licensing Wins at LIMA’s Asian Licensing Awards

Pacific Licensing Studio Pte Ltd (PLS) -- Southeast Asia’s licensing and brand management agency has won the prestigious licensing award for ‘Best Corporate Brand & Lifestyle Program of the Year’ at this year’s LIMA Asian Licensing Awards.  The award was given for the 2015 Collection on Candy Crush and Candy Crush Soda apparel and accessories collection developed by licensee, Something Boudoir in Thailand.

Zodiak Kids Launches New Mister Maker Identity

Zodiak Kids has announced that as well as unveiling its new identity for Arts & Crafts sensation Mister Maker it has secured a major three year renewal with its Arts & Crafts licensee Creativity International and secured deals with two new partners for 2016.

Zodiak Kids have brought new licensees toucanBox and Add Trading on board for 2016. toucanBox deliver unique arts and crafts kits in personalised boxes direct to consumers across the UK. They will create an additional Mister Maker offering containing bespoke arts and crafts kits that children can do at home with all the elements delivered direct to them on a subscription basis.

Add Trading will make a range of Mister Maker products incorporating air drying clay, modelling clay and dough, hydro and ironing beads and jewellery kits.
