  London Toy Fair Awards Winners Announced

Organized by the British Toy & Hobby Association with the Toy Retailers Association (TRA), the Toy Fair Awards was held during the London Toy Fair.

Hasbro's Furby was announced as the Toy Of the Year. Other awards included Asda as General Multiple Toy Retailer of the Year; Lego Friends as Construction Range of the Year; Mattel's Monster High Ghouls Rule Doll Assortment as Girls' Toy of the Year; Hasbro's Web Shooting Spider-Man as Boys' Toy of the Year; and Leapfrog's LeapPad 2 as Lifestyle Toy of the Year. In addition, VTech was named Supplier of the Year.

  Hasbro and The Tetris Company Sign for Face-to-Face Tetris Games

Hasbro, Inc., and The Tetris Company, LLC, have signed a licensing deal to bring the Tetris video game brand to face-to-face gaming. Through this agreement, Hasbro has obtained the license to manufacture and globally market multiple face-to-face, Tetris-branded games.

Hasbro will introduce two games in the fall based on the popular Tetris game. The new Bop it! Tetris game tests players to match the traditional Tetris-block-shaped lights as the challenges get faster and the levels increase. Also, Hasbro's new Jenga Tetris game challenges players to push, pull, and stack the Tetris-block shapes into a Jenga tower. The games will launch globally in August.

  Licensees Signing up for Goose & Friends

Goose & Friends, created by Laura Wall, is a book series that was published last summer and went straight into Sainsbury's, Waterstones, and independent book shops. Goose & Friends is now on a second print run.

Goose Goes to the Zoo is short-listed for the People's Book Prize and long-listed for Waterstones' children's Book Prize 2013, and Wall is currently working on a second series of two new titles, which Award will publish later this year.

  Marvel Launches Consumer Products Program for Ultimate Spider-Man

Marvel Entertainment LLC will launch a consumer products program for Ultimate Spider-Man with more than 200 licensees signing on to create product lines across all major product categories, including toys and games, apparel and accessories, home goods, collectibles, and social expressions. The consumer products program coincides with the second season of the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man, which premiered on January 21 on Disney XD.

At American International Toy Fair in February, Hasbro, Lego, Huffy, and Street Flyers will showcase product lines featuring Ultimate Spiderman, including action figures, building sets, bikes, and sporting goods. In addition, Marvel will center its focus on creating action-oriented play activities and play patterns featuring the superhero.

  Alphanim Announces Calimero Deals

Alphanim has recently secured licensees for its CGI-animated series Calimero. France's TF1, Italy's RAI, Disney Junior (select European Union markets), and Télé-Québec will premiere the new production this year and next year.

Calimero has entered into a master plush deal with Nicotoy. Alphanim has also finalized a deal with Androni Giocattoli for beach toys and accessories to include buckets, beach packs, and beach balls.

MLP will have Calimero-branded daywear, nightwear, underwear, socks, and swimwear for babies, kids, and adults, as well as accessories. Brokered by Alphanim and its French agent TF1 Licences, this deal covers territories including France, Benelux, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

In a renewed deal, Oysho will continue to offer its collection of Calimero apparel worldwide throughout this year.

  The Joester Loria Group Brokers Deal for Popular Mechanics Toys

The Joester Loria Group has brokered a deal on behalf of Hearst publications with Round 2 LLC, for a line of Popular Mechanics scientific toys. Popular Mechanics has empowered its readers with the spirit of invention and power of knowledge. The brand will now capture young imaginations with a range of scientific toys. Products will include a build-your-own, battery-powered remote-control toy; solar- and dyno-powered toys; forensic kits; telescope and microscope sets; and weather observation kits. Round 2 LLC will also develop model kits, electric slot cars, and die-cast vehicles under the Popular Mechanics brand.

The first products launched exclusively at RadioShack last year and included a build-your-own R/C bug and build-your-own R/C tank. New products for expanded distribution will be introduced at American International Toy Fair in February.

  Poppy Cat Secures Two New Agents

Coolabi has appointed agents Planeta Junior and Limo Licensing in two new territories for Poppy Cat. Planeta Junior, part of Grupo Planeta—which already represents Poppy Cat in France—will now extend its reach into Poland following the TV launch in September. Limo Licensing will represent the property across the Nordic regions, including Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Iceland. The preschool show currently airs in the latter four countries.

  Diaper Dude Signs with Major League Baseball Properties for Diaper Bags and Accessories

Diaper Dude, the bag for dad and lifestyle accessory brand, has signed a licensing agreement with Major League Baseball Properties (MLBP) marking Diaper Dude's first-ever sports deal. The agreement allows for use of MLB marks, including all 30 Club marks, mascots, and ballpark marks, on diaper bags, baby bottle holders, and pacifier pouches. The MLB licensed accessories will be available nationwide in April at specialty retailers, boutiques, department stores, and at

  DHX Extends Reach into China

DHX Media has signed a deal with China Mobile Entertainment Holdings (CME) and Alebrije Entertainment for a new Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) edutainment channel on PPTV, which will extend the reach of its brands into the Chinese market. The deal encompasses more than 900 episodes from series including Arthur, Caillou, The Busy World of Richard Scarry, Care Bears, Madeline, and Where on Earth is Carmen San Diego.

  Women in Toys Extends Application Deadline for Walmart Pitch Event

The application deadline for Women in Toys (WIT) and Walmart's Women's Global Economic Empowerment Initiative, has been extended to January 30. About 40 women-owned businesses have already signed up to participate in the Walmart Pitch event on February 11 during New York Toy Fair, which allows WIT members to pitch their products to Walmart.

A discussion panel covering the "Top 5 Tips for Selling to Walmart, by Two Women Who Have Done It," will be held February 11 from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. Presenters include Carol Fenster of Baby Abuelita, and Amy Pennington, the president and founder of Paradise Kids. The discussion will be moderated by Patti Becker of Becker Associates LLC, and Reisa Schwartzman of Griddly Games.

Those interested in being part of the Walmart Pitch should complete an application form from the WIT website ( and submit it to Patti Becker at with “Walmart Pitch” in the subject line. Candidates will be notified if they are selected.

  41 Entertainment Signs Licensing Partners in the UK and Eire for Pac-Man

41 Entertainment (41e) and its UK agent, Lisle International, have secured three new UK deals for apparel and publishing for the Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures property. The TV series is slated to begin airing in English-speaking markets in the fall including Disney XD in the U.S., Sky in the UK, and Ten Network in Australia, followed by a number of other key markets later this year and in spring 2014 supported by a licensing and merchandising program.

Blues Clothing will launch an apparel line, including both children's and adult wear for the fall. Titan Publishing will produce a stand-alone Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures magazine featuring characters and content from the TV series. In addition, Pedigree Books will publish a 2014 annual to be released on August 1.

  Discovery and Burger King Join Forces Again

Following last year's debut partnership with Burger King, Discovery Communications is teaming up with the restaurant chain again this year. Space-themed Discovery Kids items are available in every BK Kids Meal sold at participating restaurant locations across the U.S. and Canada.

  Lawless Signs with Walls 360 for The Little Prince Wall Graphics

Lawless Entertainment has concluded a deal with Walls 360 on behalf of The Little Prince. Walls 360 will utilize art from The Little Prince to develop wall graphics that will be sold worldwide through and at a variety of online outlet partners.

Walls 360 creates wall graphics based on artists, designers, photographers, and brands from around the world. The Little Prince, first published in 1943, is a novella and the most famous work of the French aristocrat writer, poet, and pioneering aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

  Sten Jorgensen Named Vice President of Global Licensing Acquisition for Egmont

Egmont Kids Media has appointed Sten Jorgensen to the new role of vice president of global licensing acquisition. Jorgensen joins Egmont from Disney, where he held senior publishing, media, and consumer product roles throughout the last 18 years, including vice president of global magazines and, most recently, vice president of marketing and brand development for Disneynature. He spent part of his early career at Egmont's magazines division.

  Zodiak Kids Partners with Cupcake Digital for Tickety Toc Apps

Zodiak Kids has partnered with Cupcake Digital, Inc., for story experience apps based on the preschool series, Tickety Toc. A total of 12 apps are slated for development and will be available on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, and Barnes & Noble.

Cupcake Digital is known for creating interactive story app experiences featuring three modes of reading, professional narration designed to help kids recognize words, learning games that follow Common Core Curriculum Standards, bold and colorful interactions that surprise and delight, and a Grown-Up's Corner designed for shared screen time and guided conversation.

The deal was brokered by U.S. licensing agent Established Brands and Canadian licensing agent Studio Licensing on behalf of Zodiak Kids. Consumer products will launch in the fall led by master toy partner Just Play and Home Entertainment partner Anchor Bay Entertainment.

  Bulls Licensing to Represent Fifty Shades of Grey in the Nordic Region

Caroline Mickler Ltd., the master licensing agent for the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, has teamed up with Bulls Licensing to represent Fifty Shades of Grey in the Nordic region. Global sales of the trilogy by E.L. James have reached 68 million copies, and the film rights have been sold to Universal Pictures and Focus Features. Bulls Licensing will be meeting with potential licensees to discuss licensing opportunities early this year.

  DreamWorks Appoints ELC as Consumer Products Licensing Agent in Russia, Eastern Europe

DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc., has appointed the European Licensing Co. (ELC) as consumer products licensing agent in Russia and Eastern Europe beginning February 1. ELC will represent upcoming DreamWorks Animation properties for merchandise, retail, and publishing, including Turbo and How to Train Your Dragon 2, as well as ongoing TV series Penguins of Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, and DreamWorks' Dragons: Riders of Berk. In addition, ELC will represent DreamWorks Animation's franchise properties including Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Madagascar, How to Train Your Dragon, and Puss in Boots.

  Susan Bolsover to Join Penguin

Penguin has appointed Susan Bolsover to the newly created role of head of licensing and consumer products for Penguin Children's. Her position will begin on February 4. The new role is designed to exploit Penguin's owned and agented intellectual property, particularly as it continues to build its portfolio of new and classic children's entertainment brands.

Susan Bolsover's licensing and brand management experience includes Copyright Promotions Licensing Group, De Agostini UK, and BBC Worldwide, where she worked on properties such as Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, and Skylanders.

  m4e expands Mia and Me Licensing Program

Munich brand management and media company m4e AG has added new licensing partners for the TV series Mia and Me in time for the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg.

German toy manufacturer Simba Toys will introduce Mia and Me-branded plush, water toys, and outdoor toys. Spielkartenfabrik Altenburg (ASS Altenburger) is developing card games suited to the series, and Blue Ocean Toys will have a paper toy called Papereenz. United Labels will have tableware, cutlery, gift articles, and watches.

  Asda to Launch Clothing Range for Waybuloo

Asda will launch a Baby Essentials range featuring characters from Waybuloo, which will soon be available in-store and online at The Piplings range consists of four colorful styles for Waybuloo fans, including sleepsuits, hooded towels, pajamas, and bodysuits for boys and girls ages 0 to 24 months.

  Zodiak Rights Appoints Tim Mutimer as Head of Non-Scripted Programming

Zodiak Rights, the international division of Zodiak Media, has appointed Tim Mutimer to the newly created role of head of non-scripted programming. Mutimer was previously the senior vice president for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) at BBC Worldwide.

Mutimer joins with a wealth of experience across the international TV and distribution industry. At BBC Worldwide, he managed sales teams and sales strategy for brands such as Top Gear and Torchwood in EMEA and the UK. Prior to his five-year tenure at BBC, Mutimer was the director of sales at ITV Global Entertainment covering global sales and international format launches, including Dancing on Ice and Come Dine with Me.

Mutimer will be responsible for the sales and acquisitions activity across all of Zodiak Rights non-scripted programming, and he will report to CEO Matthew Frank.

  The Joester Loria Group Appointed U.S. Agent for The Hive

Space Enterprises has appointed The Joester Loria Group as the exclusive North American licensing agent for The Hive. The Joester Loria Group will launch an integrated licensing and merchandising program for The Hive. Key merchandising categories planned include toys, games, publishing, apparel, confectionary, and more.

The Hive's UK licensing program is also expanding, with partners including Mookie Toys, LeapFrog, Jupiter Toys, Blues Clothing, Aykroyds TDP, and a recently announced deal with Ravensburger. In addition, Space and Avanquest are set to launch iOS game apps on iTunes.

Originating in the UK and produced by Monumental Productions, Lupus Films, and DQ Entertainment, The Hive arrived in the U.S. in October in a deal secured by distributor Bejuba.
