The Lego Group, FCP Launch The Simpsons-Branded Legos

The Lego Group has partnered with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products (FCP) to produce a construction set and licensed Lego minifigures inspired by the TV series The Simpsons. Fox will air a special Lego episode of The Simpsons in May coinciding with the new products. The episode will feature the cast in Lego form.
The construction set will recreate the Simpsons’ family house and will include the characters Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie, and Ned Flanders. It is set to launch in February in Lego stores and the Lego Shop at Home catalog and website. A separate line of 16 Lego The Simpsons minifigures will launch at mass toy retailers in May.

Zodiak Kids, LeapFrog Sign Deal for Tickety Toc

Zodiak Kids has signed a deal with LeapFrog Enterprises Inc. to have the preschool TV series Tickety Toc available across LeapFrog multimedia platforms and tablets. The first bundle of episodes will be available in the U.S. in February. Future episodes will be released throughout the year and will be accessed through the LeapFrog App Center. Tickety Toc will launch in the UK and worldwide later this year.

Just Falafel Expands Brand into North America

Just Falafel will introduce its restaurant brand to the U.S. and Canada during the next five years. The company has signed franchise agreements with different partners in key locations, including New York City, New Jersey, Kentucky, and San Francisco in the U.S. and the greater Toronto area in Canada. The five new area franchise agreements will create up to 160 restaurants in North America.

Scientific Games, Hasbro Expand Licensing Deals

Scientific Games and Hasbro Inc. have amended their long-term licensing agreements to expand the Scientific Games lottery and WMS Gaming brands for real-money Internet wagering. With the amendments, Hasbro brands, including Monopoly, will now be included in social casino gaming channels of distribution. The duration of these licensing agreements has also been extended from 2017 to 2020, with a potential three-year extension.

Monopoly has been the No. 1 licensed brand in the lottery industry and is among the top licensed brands in slot machines. Scientific Games has secured the rights to license seven additional Hasbro brands for its slot machine portfolio and has expanded the territories for its lottery licensing rights.

Knockout Licensing Signs Additional Downton Abbey Licensees

Knockout Licensing has signed Running Press, Everest, and Aidan AryL as the three latest U.S. companies to offer products inspired by the TV series Downton Abbey. Running Press will create and sell specialty gift items, such as a snow globe and a light-up desktop castle, while Everest has been granted distribution rights for the official Downton Abbey board game. Aidan AryL was granted the rights to create a line of personal and home fragrances, including women’s perfume, men’s cologne, scented candles, and scented soaps.

JGL Brokers Deal for Pepsi with Concept One

The Joester Loria Group (JLG), the exclusive licensing agent for PepsiCo North America, has signed a deal with Concept One to expand Pepsi’s lifestyle program. Concept One will introduce seasonal collections such as headwear, cold weather gear, and a line of board shorts. Coordinating accessories will also accompany the seasonal lines, such as slippers and flip-flops. The line is expected to launch this spring.

The World of Eric Carle, Wendy’s Partner for Kids’ Meal Promotion

The World of Eric Carle and Wendy’s have partnered to create a yearlong Under 3 Kids’ Meal promotion in celebration of the 45th anniversary of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Under 3 Kids’ Meals will include one of seven mini board books based on the brand that will feature insects, animals, food, vehicles, sea creatures, animal colors, and sounds. In addition, participating Wendy’s locations will distribute coupons for special offers on The World of Eric Carle products from key retail partners.
The promotion began this month and will run through December 28 in participating Wendy’s restaurants in the U.S. and Canada.


Aeropostale, Warner Bros. Partner for Pretty Little Liars Collection

Aeropostale Inc. has partnered with Warner Bros. to launch a line of apparel inspired by the Pretty Little Liars TV show. The specialty retailer collaborated with the show’s costume designer and stylist Mandi Lane to create the collection.
The new line features outfits based on the distinctive styles of the show’s four main characters. The clothes will also be incorporated into the characters’ wardrobes throughout the show’s winter season, which premiered on January 7. The collection is now available exclusively at Aeropostale retail locations and online.

HGTV Home Baby Furniture Collection Launches Exclusively at buybuy Baby

HGTV Home has launched the HGTV Home Baby furniture collection—now available for purchase exclusively in 86 buybuy Baby stores in the U.S. The first two offerings in the furniture collection—Grayson and Hayden—feature fresh designs with gender-neutral options that will complement any nursery décor. The innovative lines are designed to easily transition as the child grows from baby to young adult.
Grayson and Hayden each offer a generously proportioned six-drawer double dresser and a five-drawer tall chest. The Grayson line showcases two finishes, weathered oak “Dusk” or satin “Midnight,” and is an updated interpretation of the classic framed crib. It has a four-in-one lifetime convertible kit that can transition into four mattress settings—crib to toddler bed, and daybed to adult double bed. In contrast, the Hayden line presents cherry veneers on poplar solids set within beveled, dark chocolate framework. It offers two crib options, the four-in-one lifetime convertible crib, plus an innovative four-in-one standard crib with four levels of mattress settings—a crib, a toddler bed, a daybed, and a set of twin beds.

Joyrich Announces Second Simpsons Range

Joyrich has entered into a second collaboration with The Simpsons to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary with a colorful apparel and accessories collection.
The Joyrich Simpsons collection follows the success of the first limited edition Joyrich Simpsons collection, which sold out quickly in pop up shops throughout Japan. The new collaboration will be available in the U.S. and worldwide in Joyrich stores and online at

Zodiak Rights Appoints new CEO; Downsizes Consumer Products Team

Zodiak Rights has appointed Steve Macallister, former president and managing director of BBC Worldwide sales and distribution, as CEO.
This follows a period of restructure for the company. In a statement, Zodiak Rights explained why it was forced to downscale its consumer products department: “The consumer products division of Zodiak Rights has recently undergone a significant re-structure following a tough year of difficult trading conditions. The continued challenging retail environment combined with increased competition in the key pre-school areas has resulted in the need to downscale the department.”
Macallister joins the Paris-based sales and distribution company as Zodiak Rights CEO, replacing Matthew Frank, who leaves the position after 20 years, having joined his brother at RDF in 1994.
Marc-Antoine d’Halluin commented: “The scale of what Matthew has achieved over the last 20 years is remarkable, and I know he will be missed on both a professional and personal level, and I wish him all the best. He leaves behind an incredibly successful and reputable business, and I have every confidence that Steve will now take the company to its next phase.”


Alton Towers Unveils New Details on Cbeebies Land

Alton Towers Resort has announced further details of the rides, attractions, and characters to feature at CBeebies Land. Opening on May 24, the new area of the resort will feature some of CBeebies’ favorite characters and shows, including Something Special, In the Night Garden, Tree Fu Tom, and Mr. Bloom’s Nursery.
CBeebies Land will include rides, immersive play areas, live experiences, character appearances, and will be a fun and safe environment where preschoolers can play and learn. The attraction will be updated with new content.

Transformers Sponsors London Toy Fair 2014

To begin Hasbro’s promotion for the release of Transformers: Age of Extinction, Transformers will be sponsoring the 2014 London Toy Fair.
There will be a replica Optimus Prime truck at the main entrance, with extensive Transformers branding present at the entrance of Olympia as well as on the internal doors, stairs, walls, selected floor spaces, and goody bags. The Transformers trilogy will also be playing at the Hasbro stand.
While the details of the new toy range are currently under wraps, Hasbro has revealed that it will launch a range of products in its toy and action figure line inspired by the film. There will also be a wide range of licensed products available.

Kimmidoll Kick-Starts 2014 with New Licensees

Three new licensees have been added to DRi’s Japanese-inspired lifestyle brand Kimmidoll. The recent signings will take the property into toys, health and beauty, and apparel categories, all due to launch this fall.
Blues Clothing has signed on for nightwear and underwear and Corsair has secured the rights for toiletries, cosmetics, and fragrance. A new development in the younger Kimmidoll Junior program is a collectible range of bean toys from Posh Paws.

Fluid World Appoints Matthew Conrad as COO

Fluid World has announced the appointment of Matthew Conrad as chief operating officer with immediate effect. Conrad joins the team replacing Director Libby Grant, who left at the end of last year. 
Conrad will lead the development of Fluid World’s portfolio and oversee the business, reporting in to CEO Andrew Lane. He brings with him a wealth of experience from both within and outside of the licensing industry and has returned to the industry after a brief sabbatical, during which he spent time pursuing other interests, including studying graphic design. 
His previous roles included director of consumer products at JCB, establishing M&C Saatchi Brand Licensing and as an intellectual property solicitor at Clifford Chance and Rouse & Co.

ITV Appoints Trademark Products for Village People

ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) has announced the appointment of Trademark Products to produce a range of fashion apparel for the Village People brand.
The range will include men’s and women’s T-shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies. The range will target teens and adults ages 18 to 35. The range will be launched at high street fashion retail and major UK stores in the spring and summer.
Creatively inspired by a fabulous new designer look and supporting style guide, the apparel range is part of a Village People brand licensing and merchandising strategy appealing across multiple generations and demographics.
The Village People brand has generated a turnover of more than $1 billion through music hits and co-branding alone since it arrived onto the music scene in 1977. ITVS GE represents the Village People brand in the UK. It has been appointed by PGS Entertainment to bring the image to the UK market.

Magic Light Kicks off Gruffalo Anniversary with Wooden Toys

Magic Light Pictures has signed a deal with Bajo to design and hand-craft five new Gruffalo wooden toys. The range includes Gruffalo and Mouse figures, push-along, play theatre, and puzzle and alphabet blocks and will be distributed in the UK by Green Owl Toys after being launched at Top Drawer and Nuremberg Toy Fair this month.
This year marks The Gruffalo’s 15th anniversary and The Gruffalo’s Child 10th anniversary, and will see a range of celebratory events and partnerships across the nation to mark the success of the global brand.

miPR Creates New Licensing Division

miPR has announced the launch of its new Licensing Agency division, miLicensing. miLicensing will operate as a standalone business, acting as a licensing agent across music, toy, and entertainment industries.
miLicensing will be overseen by miPR managing director Kirsty Barr, with day-to-day operations run by Jonathan Rose, group commercial director, who was appointed to the business to create strategies to support the businesses’ growth over the next five years and beyond. To enhance the existing in-house expertise, miLicensing has brought in Licensing consultant Michael Gottlieb as licensing director.
The new division joins the current miPR group, which encompasses miPR, the core lynchpin of the business; miEvents, acquired last year; and miPRGlobal, its international PR business. 
Barr explains, “We believe miLicensing is the next natural step for our business and supports our 360-degree approach strategy. The new division is designed to offer cross collaboration for our clients and to add wider value to our client offering as well as creating licensing opportunities with new clients and retailers. PR will always remain at the heart of our business, my roots are in PR and mi-team will continue to delight our current and future clients with creative and results-driven PR campaigns. It does mean our clients can now benefit from our wider range of services that have naturally developed through our growing relationships within the licensing industry”.

Northern Light Fund Quiz Night Date Announced

The Northern Light Fund Quiz Night will take place on March 20. Tickets are now on sale for this event, organized by The Northern Light Fund.
“This is the greatest event in the licensing calendar,” says Max Arguile. “Frankly it will be embarrassing for you if you are not there. You remember last year’s event don’t you? You were very funny if a little drunk as I remember but you still dazzled us all with your sparkling repartee. And let’s not deny it, you looked amazing.”

Poeticgem Snaps Up Miffy for New Apparel Range

Poeticgem is set to develop a new ladies’ apparel range based on the Miffy brand. Poeticgem will work on a new clothing range for women that will tap into adult nostalgia for the brand.
“Not only is Miffy one of the world’s most popular characters but she is also an absolute design classic,” says Elliott Matthews of Poeticgem. “Those two facets combine to make the brand perfect for an apparel range, so we are very excited about this new collaboration and are confident of a strong performance when product hits the shelves.”

Plants vs. Zombies Signs Additional Licensing Deals

Bulldog Licensing has signed Smith & Brooks and Portico to produce additional Plants vs. Zombies products. Smith & Brooks will create apparel, while Portico will make greetings cards, wraps, and tags. The new partners will add to the list of current licensees that create products such as toys, posters, and magazines.
