Industry veteran Pam Lifford has been named president, Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP). Lifford will start on February 1 and report directly to Diane Nelson, president, DC Entertainment and WBCP and president and chief content officer, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
In her new role, Lifford will oversee all WBCP business functions, including domestic and international licensing, worldwide marketing, business and legal affairs, finance, and retail business development related to some of the most highly regarded entertainment franchises in the world. WBCP’s portfolio of licensing properties includes DC Comics’ Batman and Superman, Harry Potter, The Hobbit Trilogy, Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo. Lifford succeeds Brad Globe, who will step down in February after more than a decade overseeing WBCP. 
With more than 25 years of experience, Lifford is widely respected across the consumer products industry, including 12 years at Disney. Lifford joins WBCP from Quiksilver Inc., where she served as executive vice president, global licensing.
In additional news, Warner Bros. Entertainment named Barry Ziehl the senior vice president of public affairs and strategic initiatives. In this new role, Ziehl will oversee Warner Bros.’ public affairs team, including corporate responsibility and the integration of philanthropy and sustainability initiatives into the company’s corporate values and business interests.

Cartamundi Launches Shuffle Twister Game

Cartamundi has announced the launch of the Shuffle Twister card game, licensed by Hasbro. Available in January 2016, it is a brand new version of the classic Hasbro game in card format. It is also part of the Shuffle range — Cartamundi’s innovative product category that combines playing cards and digital technology for an enhanced way to play card games with support from tablets and smartphones.
Aimed at two to four players aged six and above, the game comes with easy-to-understand instructions and the Shuffle digital extra. The free Shuffle Twister app (available through Apple iOS and Android) adds a twist by asking some — or possibly even all — players to perform random actions or impressions.
Trudi Bishop, Head of Marketing and Licensing, Cartamundi UK, says: “It was inevitable that the popularity of both Shuffle game and Twister game would see the two games come together. Shuffle Twister card game is a great new format for a classic game — with an app that will have you falling over with laughter — literally!”

Peppa Pig’s Big Splash Tour Expands in 2016

Entertainment One’s (eOne) Peppa Pig’s Big Splash added 65 cities and 100 performances to its first U.S. tour due to strong ticket sales and popular demand last September. More than 150,000 tickets have been sold with multiple sell-outs across U.S.
The second leg of the tour kicks off January 16 at King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne, Florida with stops at New York City’s Beacon Theatre (three shows), Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater (two shows), and Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. More tour dates will be announced later this year.

Felicia Tuan Joins Discovery as Regional Director

Discovery Consumer Products has announced that Felicia Tuan has joined the company as Regional Director for Discovery Consumer Products Asia-Pacific. Felicia will be responsible for developing and overseeing the licensing business for Discovery Communications’ portfolio of television properties across the region with brands including Discovery Expedition, Discovery Kids, and Animal Planet. Felicia will report directly to Nicolas Bonard, Senior Vice President of Discovery Global Enterprises.
“Felicia has a proven track record of more than 15 years as a successful sales professional and manager with comprehensive marketing skills,” said Bonard. “In this rapidly expanding market, we are confident that Felicia will bring new insight and strategy to the team as we continue to grow our business across Asia-Pacific.”

Nominations for LIMA Board of Directors Due February 1

Licensing Industry Merchandiser’s Association (LIMA) seeks submissions to fill openings on its board of directors, effective this July. If you are interested in being considered for nomination, please note the eligibility criteria and respond to the guidelines.
Nominees should be current LIMA members, should be involved in the licensing industry for at least five years, and should have participated in at least one LIMA activity during the past three years, such as serving on a committee, or serving as a speaker or panelist at the LIMA-produced educational program.
Directors are expected to attend four board meetings each year—one of which is held in June in conjunction with Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, and the other three at various intervals during the year, usually held in New York.
Interested candidates should send an email to Charles Riotto at detailing their qualifying activities, along with a statement on what they can contribute to the association as a member of the board of directors. Submissions must be received by February 1.
The nominating committee will review all entries and submit their recommendations to the current board, which will prepare for elections ahead of the LIMA annual meeting in June.

Masha and the Bear Open Bear’s House for Italian Fans

Masha and the Bear have opened the doors of Bear’s famous house to Italy’s kids at McArthur Glen Serravalle, Italy’s first and largest designer outlet — the first time the popular house has been on show at any venue outside Russia.
Brought to Italy thanks to a partnership between McArthur Glen, Europe's leading owner, developer and manager of designer outlets, and Maurizio Distefano Licensing, which manages the licensing campaign for Masha and the Bear in Italy, The project came to life with full support of Animaccord HQ.
The Bear’s House opened its doors to the public in early December and attracted more than 1,000 young visitors to the centre near Milan in only three days. It will be open until early March 2016.
Thousands more visitors are expected to explore Bear’s House in the coming weeks: more than 5.5 million of people visit McArthurGlen Serravalle every year, with numbers at their highest during December and the first week of January.
Maurizio Distefano, Founder and Director of Maurizio Distefano Licensing, says: “This wonderfully designed attraction has brought to life one of the most popular characters in modern children’s TV animation. We’re looking forward to a continued high demand as many more kids visit the Bear’s House during the holiday season.”

Laura Ashley to Launch Handbag and Luggage Collection

Laura Ashley partnered with Landau to launch a handbag and luggage collection for women in the U.S. and Canada.

Crafted from a variety of quality materials, the handbag collection will include women’s wallets, small accessories, handbags, and totes, while the luggage line will feature both soft- and hard-sided constructions in multiple sizes. The line will feature Laura Ashley prints and classic designs combined with modern details and fresh colors.

The Laura Ashley handbag collection will launch at specialty and department stores in the spring and will be available online at Retailers can preview the Laura Ashley collections at the Canadian Gift & Tableware Association (CGTA) show in Toronto in January.

Nick UK Announces Nick Kicks

Nickelodeon UK & Ireland has announced a long-term partnership with The Football League to produce Nick Kicks, a live-action football programme covering all 72 clubs of the Football League. 
Launching on Nicktoons at 8:00 am on Saturday, 6th February 2016, the 22-minute programme will run for 18 episodes ending on 4th June.  In addition to covering the remainder of the 2015/16 season, the series will air across the entirety of the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons. In total, Nickelodeon UK & Ireland has committed to producing over 100 episodes of the series across the three seasons.
Featuring highlights of Football League matches filmed, edited and delivered by ITN Productions, Nick Kicks is produced by Nickelodeon UK production team. The production of Nick Kicks follows the broadcast deal struck between The Football League and Viacom International Media Network’s Channel 5.
“We know that UK kids love football whether it’s played in stadiums or in the back garden so it is brilliant to be producing a series that will bring families a Nickelodeon take on the nation’s top sport.  Nick Kicks is going to be funny and will give fans a unique look at their favourite clubs and players,” said Alison Bakunowich, VP, Head of Editorial, Nickelodeon UK & Ireland.

Knockout Licensing to Expand Tanya Whelan Brand, Represent Rita’s Italian Ice

Designer Tanya Whelan appointed Knockout Licensing to develop a licensing program that brings her fabric designs to a range of new product categories, with an emphasis on home décor.   

Approximately 400 designs are available for licensing from 20 fabric collections, including soft, romantic floral, bold, vibrant, vintage kitsch, and eclectic modern patterns. Knockout seeks licensing partners in categories including, home furnishings, home décor, housewares, fashion accessories, infant layette, gifts, and paper products.

In a separate deal, Rita’s Italian Ice appointed Knockout Licensing to launch a licensing program for Rita’s brand across a range of products. Knockout seeks licensing partners in multiple categories, including candy and confections, food (excluding frozen treats), beverages, drinkware, apparel, accessories, home furnishings, health and beauty aids, toys and games, publishing, and promotions.  

Chuggington DVD ‘Delivery Dash at the Docks’ Announced

Anchor Bay Entertainment has announced the launch of a new Chuggington DVD, Delivery Dash at the Docks, containing six standout episodes from the fifth season of the Disney Junior series as well as trainloads of  bonus features.
The DVD features two new characters, Daley and Skipper Stu, and is available with a Daley collectible toy train from Tomy.

Tommy Bahama Signs Amerez Group for Swimwear

Tommy Bahama signed a new licensing agreement with the Amerex Group to manufacture and sell swimwear for boys and girls.

For girls’ size 4 to 16, styles include one shouldered tankinis, bikinis, one-piece styles, and two-piece rash sets with a rash guard top and a bikini bottom. Infant and toddler girls’ silhouettes include tankinis and one-piece styles with matching skirts or cover-ups. For boys’ size 8 to 20 and infant/toddler, styles include a variety of swim trunks, and short and long sleeve rash guards.

The collections will be available at department stores including Nordstrom, Macy’s, Dillard’s, Belk, and Lord & Taylor starting in mid-February.

ToysLab Announces New Offerings for Toy Fairs

ToysLab Entertainments has announced a new range of toys, which will launch at the toy fairs in New York, Hong Kong, & Nuremberg.
ToysLab is a household name in Europe, thanks to its successful brand Meli-Dadi.
The new line of toys will include electronic puppets, modeling dough, and DIY craft toys as well as a range of science kits.

Tapout Makes Debut Appearance on Cover of Muscle & Fitness

Tapout has begun 2016 with a debut appearance on the cover of Muscle & Fitness magazine.
This month’s issues of Muscle & Fitness and Muscle & Fitness Hers feature WWE Champions John Cena and Charlotte Flair on the covers and in editorial wearing Tapout fitness gear.
Start Licensing has been appointed to represent the Asterix property for a further two years by the property's owners Edition Albert Rene.
Start and the French-based company have been working together for over five years now and Start Licensing have developed a number of high-profile deals for Asterix in the UK and Europe. These include the recent signing of high-end plush company Steiff who have produced a Limited Edition Dogmatix plush and will also develop further products featuring other characters from the book series. Other licensees include Comic Art for Limited Edition screenprints and Plastic Head Distribution for apparel, mugs and cushions. 
Start Licensing also work closely with Orion Books the UK publisher of the Asterix book series. The most recent album release was Asterix & the Lost Scrolls last year. This has proved to be a success in the UK and other markets selling already 4 million copies in total. The book is distributed in high profile book retailers such as Waterstone's, Blackwells and Foyles. Many retailers have dedicated Asterix space on store. 
The books appeal to children and adults - a launch event for the last album at Waterstone's flagship store in Piccadilly which featured the author, artist and translator was a sell out.

We are delighted that our representation has been renewed. We have some new licensees in the pipeline and the recent activity around the new album has renewed interest in Asterix.
