Rubie’s Unveils New Licenses for Dress Up Line

imagine by rubiesImagine by Rubie’s, a toy division of Rubie’s Costume Company Inc., announces new licensed products and accessories in its 2015 collection. Available for children in separates and box sets, every unique ensemble provides kids the opportunity to dress-up as their favorite character year round.
 
Imagine’s new licenses inspired by 2015’s most anticipated movies include Avengers: Age of Ultron, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Minions. In addition to these newly acquired licenses, the following properties are also included in the current repertoire of Imagine products: Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America, Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, Wizard of Oz, WWE, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, My Super Best Friends, and many more. Non-licensed products are also available. The philosophy behind the entire collection is to encourage kids to dream, believe, and achieve through the art of imagination.

Chinese Laundry Expands into New Categories with SGFootwear

chinese laundryChinese Laundry has entered into a new partnership with SGFootwear to introduce new categories in slippers, flip flops, and a children’s collection.
 
Chinese Laundry debuted the slippers collection last month. The flip flops and children’s collections will launch next spring. The footwear will available at Chinese Laundry boutiques, chineselaundry.com, and at select department stores.

The Alphabet City Launches Licensing Program

alphabet cityThe Alphabet City will expand its brand into the licensing category following the success of its books and removable wall decals and coasters.
 
The brand is available for licensing across categories including apparel and accessories, crafting, digital and online formats, gift and novelty items, home furnishings and decorative accessories, housewares and home décor, infant and juvenile products, publishing goods, and toys and games.

GBI Signs Chronicle Books as Publishing Partner for From Frank Brand

Genius Brands International has finalized an agreement with Chronicle Books to publish a new From Frank book called Don’t Fart When You Snuggle: Lessons on How to Make Humans Smile, as well as a 2016 wall calendar.

From Frank began as a line of witty greeting cards and has become a humor lifestyle brand with a range of new products to be introduced this year, including lottery tickets, sticky notes, boxed cards, notepads, emoticons, a photo bomb app, a 2015 wall calendar, 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzles, pins, stickers, air fresheners, and magnets. GBI is also currently in discussions with partners to develop pet products, stationery, party supplies, apparel, accessories, plush, novelties, and more.

Archie Comics, GBI Partner with Marc Ecko for 75th Anniversary Designs

Genius Brands International is building a consumer products program for Archie Comics to coincide with the brand’s 75th anniversary. Marc Ecko has signed on to design an exclusive capsule of Archie-themed apparel for men under the Marc Ecko Cut & Sew Brand.

Blissliving Home Partners with Avanti Linens

Blissliving homesBlissliving Home, a premium home lifestyle brand wholly owned by creator and CEO Mei Xu, announced a new licensing partnership with Avanti Linens. Avanti Linens has been granted the exclusive rights for the Blissliving Home and Dream by Blissliving Home brands in the U.S. and Canada for shower curtains, bath towels, bath rugs, and bath accessories. The partnership was brokered by Jewel Branding & Licensing, the licensing agency for Blissliving Home.
 
Mei Xu, the creative director for Blissliving Home under the company’s new licensing business model, has worked with Ellery Homestyles and Avanti’s creative teams over the past 6 months to design a cohesive top of bed and bath collection launching this spring. The new collection is inspired by Mei Xu’s travels in Mexico City and will be introduced at New York Home Fashions Market Week in March. The line will be available to ship starting in August.

Lowe’s to Introduce HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams

The HGTV Home, by Sherwin-Williams brand paints will be available at Lowe’s stores and on lowes.com beginning in March. The product line will feature a new interior and exterior paint program available at Sherwin-Williams’ company stores and Lowe’s stores nationwide.
 
The HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams color palette will offer 16 designer-inspired color collections, eight of which will be exclusive to Lowe’s. Each collection will include 20 coordinating colors along with design tips for homeowners.
 
In total, consumers will be able to select from 1,100 shades within the full HGTV HOME by Sherwin-Williams color offering, including the designer-inspired collections and other classic colors selected by the color experts at HGTV and Sherwin-Williams. Additionally, Sherwin-Williams will provide Lowe’s with two independent brands of paint that will serve professional painters and property managers: Painter’s Masterpiece and Property Advantage.

Debbie Taylor-Kerman Announces New Collections

Debbie Taylor-Kerman has announced the addition of new ornaments, giftware, and home décor, building upon the success of the Cheeky Pumpkins Halloween and Mistle Toes Christmas collections by One Hundred 80 Degrees. Collections will be showcased in the showroom of One Hundred 80 Degrees this week in Atlanta and at other upcoming winter gift shows across the country.
                        
Also new for Debbie Taylor-Kerman in 2015 is her partnership with Boston International for both everyday and seasonal collections. Pam Metz, President of Boston International, speaking about her first licensed program with Debbie Kerman-Taylor comments: “We love her outlook on life. Ahoy Buoy is a great look that crosses over many summer traditions, be it life at the sea, the color of 4th of July or even lakeside living.”

EUROPE

eOne Appointed Licensing Partner for DreamWorks’ The BFG

Entertainment One Licensing (eOne) has acquired the pan-European licensing rights to the upcoming DreamWorks Studios film, The BFG, to be directed by Steven Spielberg. Adapted from Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book, The BFG is set for release next summer, and eOne will be distributing the movie in all media in the UK. This will enable eOne to put together a fully integrated campaign across all areas to support the film release. eOne will work closely with Striker Entertainment, which have been appointed as agent for all other remaining territories.
 
The BFG—which is short for “Big Friendly Giant”—is the tale of a young London girl and the mysterious Giant who introduces her to the beauty and peril of Giant Country. DreamWorks acquired the rights to the book in 2010 after Kathleen Kennedy brought it to the company. The book was published in 1982 with illustrations by Quentin Blake.

Rovio, Baltika Breweries Partner for Angry Birds-Themed Drinks in Russia

Rovio Entertainment Ltd. has partnered with Baltika Breweries LLC for production and distribution of four new Angry Birds soft drinks in Russia. The flavors will come in Red (tropical), Chuck (orange), Bomb (cola), and Minion Pig (apple-pear), and will be distributed throughout Russia. The canned drinks will include Angry Birds award codes that unlock Angry Birds game content.

Rovio also recently announced several important deals in key markets worldwide. In China, Rovio signed a partnership with Alibaba and Shanghai Media Group to introduce Angry Birds Stella to the market and a deal with Gougou Group to open nine Angry Birds attraction parks by 2018. In Brazil, Rovio has partnered with Burger King to bring the Angry Birds brand to restaurants nationwide.

Masha and The Bear Comes to Life on Ice

Ink Global will launch an ice show based on Russian animation Masha and The Bear next year. The show will tour Slovakia and the Czech Republic before touring other countries in the European Union. Slovak and Czech authors and artists wrote the script, choreographed, and produced the design of the new ice show, which will combine dance and figure skating with 3-D projection effects.

Pedigree Picks Up Plants vs. Zombies

Pedigree is set to launch an activity annual and an activity annual bumper pack for Plants vs. Zombies, from PopCap Games, a division of Electronic Arts. The product will hit shelves next month in the UK and Ireland, Commonwealth countries, and North America.
 
The new deal adds to the brand’s licensing presence, with Plants vs. Zombies represented by a host of licensees across multiple categories. Partners include Cooneen for nightwear and underwear, Smith & Brooks for apparel, Portico for greetings cards, K'NEX for construction toys, Character World for homewares, A4T for digital peripherals, and Jazwares for plush and toys.

Danilo to Produce National Gallery Calendar and Diary Line

The National Gallery Co. Ltd. has awarded Danilo Promotions Ltd. license to produce 2016 calendars and diaries illustrated with some of the most famous paintings from the National Gallery collection. The line will be available in gift shops, stationery shops, major stores, supermarkets, and online at the end of the year.

eOne Partners with Mark Gordon

Entertainment One has acquired a majority stake (51%) in The Mark Gordon Company, and the joint venture will see a new independent studio coming from the two companies.
 
eOne and The Mark Gordon Company will finance and produce feature films and content for network, cable and digital platforms, to be distributed by eOne internationally.
 
The Mark Gordon Company, known for its work on series including Army Wives and Criminal Minds, will work with eOne  with Mark Gordon as CEO.

Calypso Soft Drinks Sees Major Makeover

Calypso Soft Drinks, part of Cott Beverages, has updated its pack design for Aquajuice, its flagship range of still Juicy Water drinks. 
 
Following a comprehensive review of its successful, growing ‘School Compliant’ portfolio, the company has launched the new designs to offer universal appeal across the foodservice and education sectors.
 
Michele Davies, Marketing Manager at Calypso said, “The trade has responded really positively to the new look for our Aquajuice range and sales have already grown since initially introducing it to buyers.”

Rockpool and LMI Building New Initiatives

Rockpool Licensing and LMI are teaming up to develop new licensing initiatives for LMI’s portfolio of properties.
 
In addition to Game of Thrones, which LMI represents through Bradford License Europe, LMI also represents iconic brands such as MG, Morris, Austin-Healey, BSA and Shell in association with Innovation 1st.    
 
Vickie O’Malley, MD of Rockpool will be seeking new partnerships on LMI’s behalf.
 
Vickie comments: “It’s fantastic to be working with Andrew and the team to extend the programmes for their properties. Game of Thrones is naturally a key focus and I’m especially interested to meet potential partners in homewares, gifting, jewellery and collectables at upcoming trade fairs.”

Northern Light Fund Quiz Announced

Tickets are now on sale for the Northern Light Fund Quiz, which will be held on 19 March 2015 at Bierkeller, Manchester Printworks.
 
The Light Fund, created in 2004 is an industrywide charity that raises monies to fund worthwhile charity projects to help children, women and men, and has raised over £500,000 since 2004.

SingTel mio TV Launches Seven Turner Channels

SingTel mio TV and Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific, Inc. have announced a carriage deal for seven Turner channels to be made available on the SingTel mio TV platform from January 6. 
 
Ricky Ow, Turner International Asia Pacific’s President, said: “With this new partnership with SingTel, our portfolio of leading TV brands is now available in all Singapore pay-TV households. Singaporeans have enjoyed our brands and content for years, so we are excited to offer our channels to an even bigger audience.”
 
Mr Goh Seow Eng, MD of TV, SingTel, said, “These channels are a much anticipated addition to mio TV’s news, kids and entertainment categories. Our customers will undoubtedly enjoy the wider selection of programmes. To offer our customers a glimpse of the new programming, we are pleased to offer a free preview of all the new channels from today until March 5.”
