eOne Names Jazwares Master Toy Licensee for Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom

Jazwares will be the master toy licensee for Entertainment One (eOne)’s Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom. The line will be available in August in the U.S. and will target preschoolers. The debut collection will include figures, accessories, multi-packs, vehicles, and play sets.

Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom premiered in in the U.S. in October 2015 on Nick Jr. The series follows Holly, a young fairy princess who is still learning how to fly and whose magic doesn’t always go quite according to plan. Her best friend, Ben the Elf, doesn’t have wings or do magic, but he is very good at making things, especially toys. The series is targeted to kids ages 3 to 6.

Moose Toys, eKids Partner for Shopkins Youth Electronics Line

Moose Toys partnered with KIDdesigns’ eKids brand for a Shopkins electronics line, which will be available this year. The collection includes volume-limiting headphones, karaoke machines, walkie-talkies, sing-along microphones, and a purse-shaped boom box. Asia’s Largest Licensing Show and Conference Open Next Week

The Hong Kong International Licensing Show (9-11 January) and Asian Licensing Conference (9-10 January) will kick off next week to showcase licensing opportunities in Asia. Both events are organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).

“Hong Kong is internationally known for its sound intellectual property protection, independent judiciary and its deep pool of global IP professionals. These factors make Hong Kong not only Asia’s licensing hub, but also an excellent strategic base for companies and brands to promote their licensing business,” said Raymond Yip, Deputy Executive Director, HKTDC. “In fact, our professionals are engaged in a broad range of fields. Our brand agents, for example, are familiar with the Asian market and have a global vision. They can provide efficient intermediary services. With the support of these brand agents, the development of the licensing industry in Hong Kong and the region are set to become ever more vibrant.”

Mr Yip added that the China-led Belt and Road Initiative is expected to inject new impetus into the global economy. Among the 60-plus countries and regions along the Belt and Road, Asian countries including Thailand, Malaysia, India and Singapore are fast-developing licensing markets, with average annual growth of more than 20 per cent in 2015, despite each still accounting for less than 0.5 per cent of the total global sales of licensing products. As a “super-connector” for the Belt and Road Initiative, Hong Kong can assist related countries and regions to advance their licensing industries, Mr Yip said.

Rovio Entertainment Introduces Angry Birds Blast

Rovio Entertainment launched Angry Birds Blast, a new game for mobile devices where players burst balloons as they move through different levels. Each player begins with 250 gold coins, which allows them to navigate through more than 270 levels.

Angry Birds Blast is developed in collaboration with Shanghai-based studio MYBO and is available for download for free on iOS and Android devices.

Empathy Takes Center Stage at Kidscreen with Harvard

Kidscreen has announced that Dr. Richard Weissbourd, director of the Human Development and Psychology program at Harvard University, will open 2017’s biggest event for leaders in children’s entertainment with the presentation of a new research study exploring why and how we are unconsciously undermining the development of empathy and caring in today’s kids.

In the current socio-economic climate, where tolerance and understanding seem to be in short supply, it’s more important than ever to help kids develop these skills. This keynote will demonstrate how TV producers and media platforms can help children and parents learn to care for others—and also what kinds of messages and content strategies are important for counteracting the nastiness, scapegoating and incivility that seems to be pervading our culture right now.

Nature Cat has posted strong ratings since it debuted in a competitive and crowded category. What about this show is allowing it to stand out from other educational preschool fare?
We think our animation style helps us stand out visually, and when you combine that with the level of humor and the amount of action/adventure, you get an engaging, smart, and fun-filled series. Each episode of Nature Cat features two 11-minute stories, as well as interstitials. The show airs twice daily on PBS stations across the country and features the vocal talents of Saturday Night Live veterans Taran Killam (Nature Cat), Kate McKinnon (Squeeks), Bobby Moynihan (Hal), Chris Parnell and Kenan Thompson, along with actress Kate Micucci (Daisy). The series follows the adventures of Nature Cat and his friends. In each episode, Nature Cat can’t wait to get outside for a day of nature excursions and bravery, but there’s one problem: he’s a house cat with no instincts for nature. With the help of his animal friends, Nature Cat embarks on action-packed adventures that include exciting missions full of investigation, “aha” discovery moments, and humor, all while inspiring children to go outside and play. We’ve been honored to receive a coveted 2016 Daytime Emmy Award Nomination for Outstanding Writing in an Animated Program, a Television Critics Association Award Nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Youth Programming, and a Common Sense Media Seal for TV, recognizing the series for providing families an exceptional media experience.

Executive Seeks New Challenges

I have 8 years experience of working for a large London Publishing house licensing book content to third parties. I am looking for a role which utilises my skills in negotiation and relationship building and can develop my experience within the licensing field. Having licensed book content to a wide variety of customers from national Newspapers to international Publishers I would relish the experience to work in a new industry, licensing new content to new clients.

I realise that a move across from traditional publishing may mean a step down from the managerial role I was in before. I'm enthusiastic to work in a new industry and feel my skills are easily transferable and am happy to look outside licensing roles also.
